I discovered Mallory Sills and her styling services through her Style Success podcast. Getting dressed is something we do every day, but how often can you say that you feel good and truly like yourself in what you're wearing? I realized that as I solidified my work wardrobe and growing my career, I was feeling less and less confident about how I portrayed myself in my personal time. Especially because I'm in my early 30's, I felt caught between a few worlds: I wanted to be age appropriate but fun, relaxed but put-together looking, feminine but not girly, the list goes on. Reading style books and blogs and perusing Pinterest always felt helpful in the moment, but when I tried to turn the inspiration to action I would feel uncertain, overwhelmed, and often terrible about the clothes that I already had.
I was drawn to work with Mallory even though we are located in different parts of the country because she does a lot more than just tell you what would look good on you (to be sure: she definitely does help with that!). She is primarily focused, though, on helping you articulate what exactly you're looking for from your style and what your roadblocks have been up until now--really, the psychological aspects of portraying yourself through style.
I opted for the Wardrobe Blueprint package, which provided an initial Skype consultation during which Mallory and I walked through my goals and challenges. After this discussion, she created a report that detailed what I should consider for my body type, a style inspiration board (and broader Pinterest board), recommendations for style icons to follow and brands to consider, and even specific product recommendations. We then had a follow up call to process all the information together and answer questions that I had.
I realize it doesn't sound like very much, but I'm feeling so much more confident about my style and wardrobe than I did just a few weeks ago (and I'm not even done with my shopping). Mallory helped me understand how to achieve the vibe I wanted to and provided a lot of concrete action items. More than that, she gave me permission to really embrace a direction I had been toying with but wasn't sure was really right for me. And, if you're wondering, it wasn't part of her recommendation to donate all my clothes and drop major amounts of money on new things--mostly I have been able to tweak how I'm wearing things that I already own, which has been really awesome.
Even though I feel equipped to make decisions to keep me feeling good in my style after this interaction, I look forward to continuing to touch base with Mallory for candid feedback and suggestions on how to embrace my wardrobe and style as a constantly evolving piece of myself. I cannot recommend working with her highly enough if you've ever felt frustrated or underwhelmed by your options when you go to get dressed. read more
