It was very late at night and I pulled through before getting to my hotel room. There was no customers inside and nobody at the drive through but the lights were on so I hoped for the best. When I got to the speaker I was greeted and offered there current special, I gave my order and was told it would take a minute but be fresh. Blech, yuck, yuck, yuck, it probably would have been cleaner to eat in the restroom. It was filthy inside. Despite my better judgement, we went ahead and ordered. Despite being the only order they were working on, it took a very long time to get our food. We ordered three double cheeseburgers and tater tots. I have no idea what took so long in our order. I definitely wasn't making fresh food for us. The tater tots were lukewarm and stale. The burgers were slightly warmer, but not by much. Burgers come with pickles, onions, and mustard. I'm a sauce gal, but there was WAY too much mustard even for me. My husband and I each choked down a burger each and tossed the last one and the tots. My kid refused to even try anything and she's a fast food junkie, so even the presentation and smell must have been off putting. The sole bright spot was the cashier. Krystal was my first "favorite restaurant" that I can remember. I was about four years old, and our parents would take us to the Krystal that was then across Baxter Street from the high-rise UGA dorms in Athens, Georgia. I've had Krystals only a couple of times as an adult. The last was 12 or 13 years ago in the wee hours, after a good French Quarter bender. In that context, they seemed like friggin' manna from Heaven. (But then, a half-loaf of Wonder Bread probably would have, too.) In the context of a long road trip during which I was stone-cold sober, though, I totally understand why I loved this crap when I was four. (Or hammered.) Krystal burgers are like baby food: all soft mush, including the cardboard-thin "meat" patty, which has almost the same texture as the fluffy white buns. The patty is also a rather unappetizing grey-ish color. Only the slightly soggy pickles offer an alternative, vaguely crunchy texture. Almost all of the flavor is supplied by the grilled onions, the yellow mustard, and the griddle grease Krystal smears on the buns. In short, Krystal burgers really aren't all that good. You really do need to be a child to love this pablum. Or really drunk. So this experience did not live up to the very fond memories. But, yeah, as road food, you could still do a bit worse.... Fries were surprisingly good. I hadn't recalled that. Upped at least a half-star for sentimentality. N.B. It was only relatively recently that I learned that this Southern "tradition" was basically a complete rip-off of a quite-a-bit- older Yankee tradition, White Castle. I ordered a cheese krystal, a Krystal chick and a sprite, and I am still sitting here waiting in the drive through. Do go here if u have plans because I'm gonna miss my pharmacy window because it's taken 20+ minutes to go through a driveway with my order and one other car... Finally got to the window and they didn't even know what my order was. Took another 10 mins to get my food after telling my order 8 times which was : 1 chik mustard and pickle only, 1 cheese Krystal, 1 sprite. It was horrible I wanted to puke after I came in to get food and saw the employee that was in charge of making my food wipe a booger on her shirt I sat down with my family and she said my food was ready I went up and she was coughing in it I told her to give me my food please and she did . I looked up at the roof and there was mold everywhere she sat down and put her feet on the table and complained about everything she could it was gross . Their supply truck was late. That I can forgive. 5 people in the building and service being super slow. What I can't forgive is being surrounded by flies and gnats. Yummm Krystal burgers! We stopped at Krystal on the way home from the Smokies, and it was delicious fast food; as good as it gets! Obviously, you're not getting gourmet from a cheap fast food spot, but the Krystal burgers were spot on sliders, and I was really impressed with the delicious chik sandwiches. For those of you from the midwest, think White Castle, but the mini burgers are all beef, a definite attraction! Super friendly staff here. This location also had some of the better tasting food we have had from Krystal's. We don't have anything like this near home so it is a treat for us. We enjoy the small burgers. The bun is soft and the meat is pretty good. The chili cheese fries were a hit with our son. read more

It's definitely fast food, but very hot and fresh. The service is great, too! The chicken sandwich was better than any other fast food sandwich I have had in the past. I can't speak for their burgers. Their fries are fresh and crispy but small.
