    South Suffolk

You guys know I don't like shopping especially grocery shopping, but I have to go every now and then. This Kroger caught me off guard this morning because they were neat, clean, and the aisles were dressed. For the most part they had what I needed except for a few items but I'm not surprised. The grocery stores have not been stocking their shelves lately. They claim it's a shipping issues but as a commercial driver, I say that's not true. Anyway, they are building a huge building closer to my home and rumors are that it's a Publix. If so every grocery store in South Suffolk is in trouble. Until Next Time another "they don't have everything I need adventure!"

This is the newest grocery store to open in the downtown Suffolk area; it moved into the location of the Farm Fresh that closed last year. I have to say: a definite improvement! The selection of products and brands here is much better than the FF that was here before. The store itself has been remodeled nicely and every section (deli/breads/butcher, etc) has really quality brands like Boar's Head. The store is well stocked; on the occasions I have shopped here I've had no problem finding everything on my list. Employees are friendly and helpful. A pharmacy is on-site if you need prescriptions filled while you shop. No coffee shop like some Kroger's, but there is a Starbucks across the street if you really need your coffee before you shop. There are several self check out lanes, which I appreciate because I like to get out quickly. This location also has a salad bar, which is my favorite part. No other grocery store in the downtown Suffolk area has that, so they definitely won points with me there. Kroger has always been one of my favorite grocery store chains and I think it's a great addition to this area!

Yummy cookies for the way home!

The long we're slow lines. The store design didn't make sense. Shelves weren't well stocked.

Poor Service ... very rude employees ... racist attitudes. Worst Kroger we have shopped in over the past twenty years.

I had the same idea of sticking up my fave things: milk, Kobe beef brisket cold cuts $19.99 per lb but soooooo good so worth it! Best warm store-baked bread with it: cranberry orange bread. Still warm from the oven (with such a warm friendly smile from the bakery staff diligently slicing and bagging the bread!) In case I get snowed in, got myself dark chocolate hummus, great for my sweets craving without the guilt. LOVE Wegmans: such unique offerings. *****

I specifically come here for their Marcona almonds (obsessed), glazed pecans, and their fresh tomato bruschetta. The bakery is also a standout--they offer these specialty half loaves, and I recently tried the garlic bread that was recommended by someone in the bakery. It doesn't have chunks of garlic inside, but instead is coated with garlic butter and seasoning on the outside, and it was absolutely delicious. Another go-to for me is their fresh pasta section. When I don't feel like making pasta from scratch, this is my go-to spot. They also have a really nice selection of Italian cheeses, which I always end up browsing a little longer than I planned. I also had a really positive customer service experience during this visit. While in self-checkout, I saw a promotion for a free bag through the app but couldn't locate the coupon. Kim, who was working in the self-checkout area, was very helpful and even called ahead to customer service for me. When I went over, they honored the promotion without any hassle, which I really appreciated. Overall, between the unique product selection and the helpful staff, Wegmans continues to be a go-to for me.

I have visited this store about three times now, and I like it here!…read more Every time I visited, I was able to pick up all my needs on my list. I did not witness any employees being overly friendly, like hey, hi, how are you, type action...but that's fine! I love the ease of shopping without chatter, chatter, chatter. I'm not antisocial, but that aspect does not bother me. The pricing is good, despite the price increases globally. There is plenty of parking out front. The carts are always available. This store does not have the self checkout lines like other Food Lions have implemented, but they definitely move the lines quite swiftly. There are other nearby shops, including: a beauty store for your haircare and beauty needs, a Chinese to-go spot and I think another business is over there too. All within walking distance. I recommend you check out this store, if you are in the area. If you are not a MVP member, please sign up! I love the program and depending on how often you use it and what perks are given, you can very well received monetary rewards to use towards your next purchase. Because of my dollars in my wallet (on my MVP card), my bill came up to $25+ but I ended up paying less than $10 for my items. Save, save, save - it's easy! Just sign up and enter your # each time to go through the line - heck share your # to get the savings. No need to carry a MVP card with you everywhere if you have a phone# associated with it :) Sharing is caring :) Have fun ~ be safe ~ enjoy life :)

I have had issues with this Kroger location since it opened. I finally just stopped shopping here…read more However, I have continued using the pharmacy. I have been a Kroger pharmacy user for approximately 23-24 years; both in Ohio and here. Everything has always been great and I have only started having problems with the pharmacy personnel here within the last year. I always get my proper medication, but that is not the issue. The problem is the surly, condescending attitude of the young girls who work there. The tone in their voice is one of condescension as if they are doing the customers a favor to give them their medication and take their money. Anything out of the ordinary seems to irritate them. In fact, they just seem irritated all the time. That has been going on for a while but now it has escalated to actual rudeness. Example: because of illness and disability I have been using their prescription delivery system for the last 7 months. Last Saturday I called the store and made arrangements for a delivery on Monday afternoon. (Deliveries must be arranged in the morning of the day prior to the actual delivery and no deliveries are made on Saturday or Sunday. Then, on the delivery day the delivery arrives between 2-6 pm.) The tracking app used by the delivery company is not very good and often it is impossible to track. So, a delivery can be tricky. Anyway, back to this particular time, I realized on Monday morning I had not received any confirmation and could not locate the delivery in the app. I called the store to check on it and spoke to a very nice woman named Ashley. She checked for me and said my medications (There were 5, mostly heart meds. One was nitroglycerin and really needed.) had been bagged up and were sitting there waiting to be picked up that afternoon. Great! At 5:15 pm I realized time was running out and I hadn't heard anything about the delivery. So I called the store again. This is where the customer service problems really got started. A young girl answered ( I won't include her name) and told me the meds hadn't been picked up yet. I said the time was getting short, I needed the meds and would she check to make sure they would be delivered. She said they use an outside company and there was nothing she could do. I explained the seriousness of the heart meds and why I needed them. She said in a - why don't you stop bothering me - voice, "Most people pickup their prescriptions." What????? I remained calm and said I am disabled and unable to drive and must use the delivery. She couldn't have cared less and said, "Maybe they will deliver them tomorrow." Maybe???? I then asked for the manager and first she told me he had left for the day. I asked what time he would be there tomorrow morning and she said he wouldn't. It was like pulling teeth to get information from her. Finally, she said he was taking the week off. I asked who was in charge in his absence and she said, "No one." Well now, that's a definite problem - if it's the truth. Needing the meds and realizing i wasn't able to make that happen that day I told her to just arrange for the delivery for tomorrow. The next day I was telling my neighbor about this situation and he insisted on driving me to the pharmacy drive-thru and we picked up the meds so I could be sure to have them. Then, when I got home, I received a text message from an area code I did not recognize saying, "Hey they told me you picked up the order." It had to be the meds because I hadn't ordered anything else from anywhere else. I didn't bother to respond. However, I am seriously considering calling the Cincinnati HQ and talking about the poor hiring and training practices at this store. What's wrong with people?
