OK. I only go to two Aldi's the one on 21st in the Ghent area and the one on little creek in Norfolk. I really like these two stores because the staff is always nice and patient. Now the Ghent store is clean with the exception of where you get your carts that area is a hot mess. But I love the prices and I took my son and his girlfriend there to teach them how to ball on a budget. And Aldi's is the place to do just that. read more

aldi has started not giving change back if it includes pennys. I was there yesterday. Was told that they no longer order pennys, so unless they have change that someone pays with, they can't give pennys back. Yet, the receipt they give you for purches/change indicates that they did give the pennys back to me..which they did not...sounds illegal to me. Though I've liked Aldis in the past, this new practice should minimally show a correct receipt. not sure I'll be shopping there anymore for the pure fact of how they are now not practicing change legally. read more

This location is much bigger and cleaner and more organized than the one along Kempsville in VA Beach. They also have much more merchandise such as comforter sets, tea diffusers, picnic blankets, bento lunch boxes, pet supplies and accessories, folding glass top tables, faux succulents, etc etc Service is quick, having at least 3 cashier aisles open at the same time (VA Beach location only has 1 most of the time). Even regular food items hav Ed more varieties like their pizza selections, their meat selections (chicken, pork, bison, sausages). Wish other locations would follow suit to carry more of these items so we all don't have to trek to Norfolk! read more

I enjoy coming here to do some occasional grocery shopping and finding something different. I l love seeing their new featured specials and checking out their household merchandise aisles. Carts are .25 cents so bring a quarter in with you and your own bags. If you forget bags you can purchase brown paper ones or reusable ones at the checkout. I'm not a huge fan of how the check out lanes work. I find it annoying that one checkout line spans down the length of the weekly featured merchandise aisle. This really blocks your ability to shop these items. They should really organize a better system. That being said, I still like their products and deals. A good addition to Ghent. read more

I've never been to an Aldi until I moved to Virginia... and I am soooo mad about it! They have some of the coolest food products! As well as the prices being absurdly low! The meat is high quality and reasonable, vegetables and fruit always look very fresh and beautiful! They do have a smaller selection of items, it's not Kroger or Food Lion by any means but the products over all you just can't find anywhere else. The selection of cheeses alone- AMAZING! If you need something unique for a dinner party or intimate dinner for two I would definitely come here. The wine selection is beyond what I imagined as well. I went in solely for meat and potatoes and found these really PRETTY ICE CREAM CONES!! Roses???? Yes!! And to boot- I've never met a rude employee at Aldi's it's like they ACTUALLY like working there!!! read more

This Aldi is located in Ghent. Not my favorite one, but it serves its purpose. This store is usually always packed, and parking can be difficult during rush hour, especially during lunch time and after 5p.m., although I acknowledge, it does share a busy parking lot with plenty of other popular storefronts (Gamestop, Tropical Smoothie, and Alkaline). I also agree with some of my fellow Yelpers; this location seems to have a problem with rude and unprofessional cashiers. All in all though, still can't beat the great deals and low prices that Aldi offers, especially with their eggs and many other dairy products, Take & Bake pizzas that are like $5 for a pie, and their great selection of fresh meat (beef, pork, chicken, and seafood). read more

I'm an Aldi fan. You can't get everything you need here, but they have good prices, quality store brands, lots of Gluten Free products, and inexpensive Organics. This location provides welcome alternatives to the Harris Teeter, Food Lion & Fresh Market. Owned by the same parent company as Trader Joe's so sometimes you see the similarities. Like those peanut butter filled pretzel bites at TJ's? Aldi has them for a lower price! It's also why they have good wine. I always shopped at Aldi when I was in Germany and needed more that the small local market. Germans usually shop one day at a time but when I needed a large grocery it was always Aldi. I also shopped there in Syracuse NY unless I needed something special, then it was Wegmans I was thrilled to find an Aldi here. The store is clean and bright and while there is a large variety they have everything you need for a small shopping trip and the produce is much better than the Walmart across the road. While I love that this grocery store is a cheaper and more convenient location for many of us in Ghent, I did not enjoy the customer service at this location. This is my first experience where I felt disrespected by a cashier. Most of these places understandably keep registers at a minimum as a cost effective decision, so I already know I'm going to be waiting in a long line. The cashier hounded the customer in front of me to put her credit card in while she was still scanning. At first the customer was confused like I was but was told bluntly that at the first scan, you can just put in the card and the transaction will occur after she's done scanning. The tone and way the cashier spoke though came off as condescending. When she scanned all of my things, she just dumped all my stuff in the cart with no regard. And while I appreciate that she put the eggs carefully in the baby seat, I still had to get another egg white container because she made a slight tear in the first one. She also hounded me to put in my card but I was using apple pay so she understood. Then she directed me to the table ahead where I can sort my own items. The next customer also had all her products carelessly dumped into her cart. It was so frustrating to watch this happen with other staff present. Other staff watching seemed indifferent and they proceeded to talk about something else that happened earlier. When I'm saying she dumped our stuff, let me paint this image. Put your milk cartoons, coffee creamer and metal cans neatly in a basket and just flip it over a shopping cart. Hopefully you can see how the egg whites got ruined. Most of us put the stuff on the conveyer belt in a certain way on purpose because we have a plan on how to bag it. At least put in back in the cart nice and neatly if you aren't gonna bag it. And I used to be a bagger at the Norfolk Commissary as a high schooler so believe me when I say this isn't a hard thing to do. While I understand work may be stressful sometimes, this was unexpected and very unpleasant. I hope that the management sees these issues soon and makes changes accordingly. I work in retail so I understand not wanting customers to come in last minute, but I had two minutes before close and only two items to grab. It would have taken me the time it took to walk across the store. The employee at the front door would only say "we're closed" to anything I said. Super shitty way to end the day. read more
