Got the Cambrian Croissant Breakfast sandwich this time having loved the Playhouse Pretzel Sandwich the first time. Bacon instead of sausage with the croissant. Generous with the bacon, egg and cheese. Croissant not quite as distinct and impressive as the pretzel bread on the Playhouse Pretzel. Definitely went down easy but next time I will go with the Playhouse Pretzel.

We stopped in for an early lunch, which they serve all day. Everything on the menu looked delicious and prices are reasonable. I had a bowl of the chicken and rice soup. The soup was thick and creamy with lots of vegetables and delicious. My husband loved the Club Sandwich which was packed with ham, bacon, avocado, lettuce and tomato. Service was a bit confusing as one of the clerks told me to sit down and brought a menu. But she never came back to take our order and we figured out we had to go up to the counter to order. I guess the regulars know this. The place is popular, there's a line to order and most tables full. They have a nice patio out back with tables. Inside, there are about 15 tables. It gets loud inside when they are full. They sell their locally roasted coffee in the shop along with other coffee related gifts. There is street parking out front and a handicapped access at the rear entrance.

We loved this place! I had been seeing the mouth watering commercial for this bakery on TV, and…read morehere we are! We walked in and immediately received several morning greetings and warm smiles. We walked down the aisle to see donuts. LARGE donuts. LARGE beautiful donuts. My sugar levels were below 100 and that was a good thing. I got a box of fresh made donuts for later and an enormous claw. To sit and enjoy, I had a claw with pecans and what I think was a cinnamon glaze? I wish I had gotten pictures of the displayed deliciousness, but that was the last thing on my mind. My husband started with a donut with chocolate icing and (I don't know how he did it) had a jelly filled donut with apple cider. He was VERY impressed with everything. He did a little shopping for more treats while I finished my claw. The homemade flavors were off the charts. The service was absolutely wonderful. Everyone had big beautiful smiles and thanked us for coming in. Thankfully, this place is over an hour away, or I'd be in trouble with my endocrinologist. I cannot say enough good things about this place. Honestly, it's worth a long drive during the fall to sit and have a treat or two and watch the leaves fall.

I recently saw a post on Ohio Trips' Facebook page about a charming little bakery tucked away in…read moresouthern Ohio called Four Mile Bakery. As a former chef and someone who creates food videos for my YouTube channel, I'm always searching for hidden diners, cafés, and bakeries that deserve more attention. Supporting local Ohio businesses is something I'm passionate about, so I made the drive to Jackson to see what all the buzz was about. The bakery sits along a quiet country road across from a picturesque farm with goats, horses, and cows, making the drive there part of the experience. When I walked inside, I discovered it's much more than a bakery--it's also a country general store stocked with homemade jams, jellies, sauces, and other locally made goodies. But let's be honest... the real reason for my visit was the doughnuts. Instead of the typical display case, Four Mile Bakery has a doughnut buffet where you put on plastic gloves and pick out your own favorites. It's a fun concept that lets you really take your time looking over all the incredible options. While I was filming, I had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Shawn. He couldn't have been more welcoming. He shared the story of the bakery, how many of their recipes were developed, and the passion that goes into what they make every day. Then came the highlight of my visit--their signature Wagon Wheel doughnut. This giant glazed doughnut is unlike any I've ever had. Most oversized doughnuts tend to be heavy, bread-like, and dense. Not this one. Somehow they've mastered the art of making it unbelievably light and airy with an almost cotton-candy-like texture. It practically melts in your mouth. It's one of the best doughnuts I've ever eaten. They also offer an impressive variety of doughnuts with all kinds of toppings and flavors, so there's something for everyone. Although they serve lunch items as well, I didn't have enough time to try them on this visit. We picked up several doughnuts along with a few items from the general store, thanked Shawn for his hospitality, and headed home. Four Mile Bakery is exactly the kind of hidden gem I love discovering. Great people, incredible homemade doughnuts, and a beautiful country setting make it well worth the drive. If you're anywhere near Jackson--or even if you're not--make the trip. The Wagon Wheel alone is worth it. P.S. Unfortunately, my camera's microphone decided to quit working during my visit, so most of the footage I captured is without sound. I guess that's just a good excuse to make another trip back to Four Mile Bakery... and somehow I don't think I'll mind having to eat another Wagon Wheel!

Today I found a place "where diets come to die a delicious death." It's called Country Crust Bakery…read morein Bainbridge, Ohio, and what a find it was! We were out exploring the area when we stumbled across this charming little bakery run by a group of Amish girls. The moment you walk through the door, your senses go into overdrive. The smell of freshly baked pies, cookies, breads, and pastries fills the air, and I swear I started drooling before I even reached the display case. As I quickly learned, "walking in here with self-control is like bringing a snowball to Florida." It simply doesn't exist! Mine certainly didn't. I ended up leaving with two peach fry pies, a loaf of cheddar jalapeño bread, and a glazed donut. My wife chose one of their giant fresh-baked pretzels with cream cheese. It was served warm and was absolutely delicious. Then I dug into the glazed donut, and wow--light, fluffy, and it practically melted in my mouth. This was our first visit, but there's no doubt we'll be back. In fact, I can easily see us becoming regulars. A quick heads-up: they accept cash or checks, but no credit cards, so plan accordingly. Country Crust also has a cute little café area where they serve pizzas and sandwiches. From what I saw, those sandwiches were absolutely ginormous. I didn't order one this time, but trust me, the brisket on a pretzel bun and the Reuben both have my name written all over them for a future visit. If you're anywhere near Bainbridge and have a sweet tooth--or just appreciate great homemade baked goods--do yourself a favor and make the drive. Your taste buds will thank you, even if your diet won't. "Worth every calorie and every mile driven."
