I'm glad they were open a little later than average. I was delighted to eat a smoked brisket burger. That thing must've been 6 inches high. It was a monster. My sweetie loved the fish tacos. They have an amazing wasabi, mayo sauce that goes with them. The middles split a prime rib Mac and cheese. They described it as "real American food" with a smile and a twinkle in their eye. That means it's delicious. It's actually a bacon prime rib, mac & cheese, and they don't even mention the bacon because the prime rib is so good. Very filling. I took a sample and it is probably the best tasting meat augmented mac & cheese I've ever tasted. The smokiness just does something amazing there. I like the background music. I like the barn, Midwest, rustic ambience. It was a delicious experience. I had to share about it online with some Japanese folks because of their recent enthusiasm for American "cheese violence". I asked if that magnificent burger qualifies as "meat violence".

I finally decided to try the Chubby Trout tonight…read more I was greeted by a couple of friendly and smiling faces at the door. I was Seated right away and introduced to my waitress, Taylor, immediately. Taylor deserves special accolades. She was so friendly and caring; she made my dining experience special. Thank you Taylor!! Taylor was awesome; she was friendly, always checking on me and sincerely concerned about my satisfaction. She was willing to do anything to make things right if I wasn't happy with something. First I ordered the Crab Cakes as an appetizer. Then I ordered off the specials menu; a Japanese spiced Branzino dish. The crab cakes were somewhat disappointing. Mostly filler and not much crab taste. Sometimes the taste actually resembled a tuna fish sandwich. The remoulade sauce that came with the crab cakes was really tasty. I wasn't really happy with the branzino dish. The fish was cooked pretty well, but "in my opinion" It had too much seasoning and the seasoning had an off flavor. Could just be my personal tastes. The restaurant has a lot of seating, little nooks and corners and a bar with seating. Plenty of quiet areas and areas to gather as a large group as well. Even though I didn't have great food choices today; I'm pretty sure while I'm in town this weekend, I'll go back and try some different dishes. See you all soon!!

Thank you for a great night of live music and friendly faces! Tonight, we gave business to the burrito company, kettle corn, tamales, samosas, ice cream, cotton candy, the fruit stand (strawberries and blueberries from california), and a lot of other businesses. We are also becoming regulars at Pizza Katerina and were glad to see them there! However, The only company that scammed us was the creole truck where we ordered the gator bites. (PJW Creole) Everything else was wonderful. Only that one business was a bad experience for us. This company was giving everyone heaping containers of food. We got literally three nuggets when we paid 12 bucks for gator bites. That wasn't cool when it became obvious they were scamming.

But today when they were at Final Gravity in downtown Kalamazoo, I also had a chance to try their crab boil, and it was absolutely amazing, too. Between four of us we polished off half-sized portion of the boil (crab legs, shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob, sausage and veggies served in a giant ziplock bag with about a quart of buttery, herby goodness), a po-boy and a small order of pasta jambalaya, and even after having spent the afternoon moving them from their apartment into their new home, we were all stuffed to the gills on less than $50 worth of food. So good. So messy. So many napkins! I had been so excited all week to have one of my favorite food trucks setting up shop outside my favorite brewery, and the experience surpassed even my already lofty expectations. I was a little worried when we arrived at the brewery and there was only one table worth of people there, but for the next couple hours it was a non-stop onslaught of folks coming to take advantage of the tremendous Cajun culinary experience. Some folks were pulling their cars right up next to the food truck and waiting in the road for their po' boys. The staff here does a great job dealing with busy situations, and always seems in a great mood whenever I see them at food truck rallies or other events.

I chose River House Grill this trip since it was a beautiful night, and on the water. While getting off the interstate and heading in to town, I noticed this eerie presence, nothing was open, signs were dark, stop lights not working... I got to River House and a few regulars were still milling around the bar, I was told they were closed due to a power outage throughout the entire city. After some conversation, they said if I had cash, I could still buy a beer (always carry cash!). The regulars moved on, and I was finishing my drink when the power comes back on! The owner Mike had already sent most of his staff home, as the estimated power restoration was well beyond their normal operating hours, but he said he would turn the fryers back on, and start the pizza oven since I was there. I told him he didn't have to and I would head back to East Lansing, but he insisted, at this point I was the only one in the place! Ordered a pizza, and boy was it delish! By the time my pizza had arrived, a few others had managed to come in and fill up the place! Thanks to Mike, Jen (bartender) and the staff who stayed! I can't wait to come back and try the rest of the menu, and see the renovations next time I'm in the area! Cheers!

This is a super late review that has been sitting in my drafts for some unknown reason…read more.. But my girlfriend (who is from Louisiana) stopped in to eat here a couple months back. They had vinyl jazz playing, which i noticed but was second nature to her... We were greeted, told to order from the table, and he would bring it out. We got a whole bunch of stuff to try out... She got catfish and curly fries, which she loved. I got a larger sea food boil with every seasoning, it was great -- a bit small for what i thought the price was but for the taste i'm not complaining. We ordered hush puppies as an appetizer, and i had to hear from her that they were "good" but it's not how she would make them, blah blah blah.... Southern people and their soul food, everyone has a hot take. With that said, she ate most of them. We also had a fried basket appetizer which was catfish nuggets, shrimp, and clams i think -- also very good. Lastly, no picture on this one, but we got a blackened alfredo to go --- and it was also very tasty. We have been back twice since our initial visit. Amazing food, and come to find out the employee that was helping us, was the only one who works there... it was overall impressive, tasty, and we'll be back more.

I'll start by saying Crawdaddy's is run by one person, so be patient or order ahead online…read more That being said, it's so fun to have something other than a burger or pizza in the downtown area. The jambalaya is vegan until you add meat to it, they have vegan beignets (though they sell out fast, so make sure to place your order early). They collards, potatoes and I believe the corn are also vegan. I would absolutely love if they had a vegan sausage, but just happy for the options. It's a very cute space with reasonable prices and hope it stays put!
