Wanted to find out what the fuss was with these donuts from across the pond so i walked in their outlet in Manchester City Center Piccadilly bus station. I bought a dozen i couldn't wait to get home and have them with my tea. This is one of most overrated, over-hyped American food i have ever eaten, these donuts are so sweet you might as well have had a tablespoon of icing sugar every time you take bite. If you have kids please do everything in your power to keep them away from this rubbish!!

If you're lucky to sweet-talk the staff, you might just get a hot glazed donut straight off the conveyor belt!

It is a small unit, they do have a small seating range, the store did feel to have a lack of room to the point where if it was busy, you might even have to wait outside, on a nice day there is room for outdoor seating which would be a good idea when the UK government guidelines allow it. I ordered a large iced vanilla latte, it was a little expensive at £3.50, this would have cost more than going to many of my regular favourite coffee shops including Black Sheep Coffee, Joe and the Juice and Starbucks, sadly none of which seem to have branches in Bury. My coffee was overfilled which meant it was hard to put the straw in without all the drink gushing out, the lid also seemed poor quality so didn't help with that. I had to stir my drink as all the syrup was at the bottom, but the coffee was pretty bad quality, it tasted slightly watery and lacked freshness. The store looked good (despite the fact it could easily appear cramped with only a few people), and is a nice brand to have in Bury, but with overpriced coffee at mediocre quality, it isn't somewhere I'd want to return. 2* Review #3400

Dunkin Donuts is a brand which for some needs no introduction, being huge in the US and even large…read morein some countries around Europe and the rest of the world, including The Netherlands but in the UK, it doesn't seem to have taken off with only a few branches in locations including Leeds, Liverpool, Barnsley and London. This branch of Dunkin Donuts is located inside St John's Shopping Centre in Liverpool. People visiting this place hoping for a slightly quiet coffee will be happy to know, this is a store in the mall rather than a mall kiosk, despite it being located right next to, and perhaps even being classed as the Food Court of St John's, it does has its own store and small amount of seating with plug sockets. The store doesn't have free wi-fi, but it's pretty much easy to connect to St John's wifi with your name and email, it worked pretty well in the store and the shopping centre wifi was actually decent, unlike some which are just terrible. The store was quite quiet on my visit, and they only seemed to have one member of staff working - there was only a small queue but this could have been handled better as my server seemed to take the order, and then prepare it, for example getting out the doughnuts chosen from the stand, where they had a decent selection (nothing gluten-free though!) or making the drink. Having previously visited Dunkin Donuts once before, while in the Netherlands I had good impressions for this store, and I ordered the same drink as I did while in Amsterdam - A Large Cold Brew with Vanilla Syrup and Milk. This also tends to pretty much be my regular go to order when drinking coffee including at Starbucks. My drink cost £3.25, which included no extra charge for milk and a £0.50 charge for vanilla syrup, which was worth it as it added sweetness and flavour to my beverage. My overall drink quality was satisfactory, I would still rate it below Starbucks in the pecking order though but it was a good alternative, at an average price, my drink did cost 5p more than Starbucks but the standard Cold Brew was cheaper, as I did have to pay for flavouring syrup which is free as I'm a Gold Member of Starbucks Rewards. The drink was also slightly cheaper than the price I paid when I visited Dunkin Donuts at Amsterdam Centraal Station, the only other time I've visited the chain. The staff member working didn't seem friendly enough, although he was the only person behind the counter at a time so did have quite a large and busy role to do, meaning there was less focus on friendliness and customer interaction. They seemed to stock most items in store, although they did run out of caramel flavouring syrup and I didn't see anywhere around the store a list of flavourings offered which would have been a bonus, as I was basically going into the store adding vanilla syrup, not knowing if they offered it (although any coffee shop worth its salt would have vanilla syrup) or how much the syrup would be. Overall, this is a decent place to grab a coffee or a donut in St John's Shopping Centre, although I feel it would be better located closer to the One complex, the location is still decent and it's fairly close to Liverpool Lime Street Station too, which is Liverpool's main train station for journeys to other major cities, with Liverpool Central being the main station for Merseyside journeys, but Dunkin Donuts at St John's is decent and warrants a three-star rating!

Their chai latte is tasteful, and the small selection of panini's are always tasty, especially with a refreshing bottle of pepsi or Fanta. You can charge you phone, power bank, tablet or laptop while having your donut/drink and watch shoppers as the wander by. I would definitely recommend this place as a good pitstop if you are doing shopping, Pokémon go or just chilling with friends. When I have been there , I have been served by the always smiling Jennifer and Olivia. So why not pop in while you are shopping, and have a seat, donut and coffee before loading up on shopping.

So it's not so much beating your weapons into ploughshares but turning your banks into coffee shops. Well I suppose it's a good start. All we need Tim Hortons to do here and the other places they've opened in North West England is pay serving staff the living wage, and we'll all be good to go. Tickety boo. It's all part of ethical trading after all. Isn't it? Their coffee is fine with a deal on differing sizes of filter coffee starting at £1.29 but Starbucks filter is much better and portion by portion a far better deal when you factor in the Starbucks free refill. Hortons coffee is better than Greggs, which offers great food deals, but the coffee is not as good as the roughly 8 maybe more coffee bars all comparably priced within a five minute walk including Cafe Nero, Alexandros, Bianco, Costa, Bean & Brush and the Coffee house. I can get 2 junk food breakfasts in Greggs just across the street for less the price of one junk food breakfast in Horton's, but Greggs isn't as comfortable to sit in. Still I'll stick with Greggs when I want junk breakfast. A special mention for the mini donuts we bought in Hortons. They had a silly name like Timmies. It was a box full; maybe 10, 12 or 20, I don't remember but they were truly awful. I can't recall when I last had terrible tasting donuts, but I won't forget these for a long while. We bought them about 3pm just a few days before Christmas and they were stale, sugar stodge. So that's my one and only visit. Mr Tim Horton died by his own actions in 1974. Despite being a famous sports star and seemingly very wealthy he managed to flip the sports car he was driving under the influence of booze. He managed only to kill himself. He had opened his coffee store with a business partner (whose son later married one of Hortons daughters). The partner offered Mrs Horton a million bucks for her share of the business in 1974. She took it but years later she felt she'd not been paid enough (darn right - she should have negotiated 1% of annual turnover too) so she sued him and lost. That's the law for ya (3rd cousin twice removed from justice). Mrs Horton died in 2000.
