Mauka Indian Cuisine - Buffet items

    Mauka Indian Cuisine

My family and I recently held an event here after previously visiting for the buffet. Because of…read morethat, I have a lot to say both good and bad. Starting with the event food: it felt noticeably cheaper and lower quality, which was very disappointing. Prior to the event, we had all genuinely enjoyed the buffet food, so expectations were high. Unfortunately, the naan tasted frozen, like something from a bulk pack at Costco. It was thin, poorly made, and as someone who truly loves naan, I couldn't even finish a single piece. The meat and chicken dishes also did not taste nearly as good as they do during the buffet. The flavors were okay, but as someone familiar with South Asian cuisine, it was very underwhelming. Since this is the only Indian restaurant option in the area, that made the disappointment even greater. The staff overall was very kind and polite. The staff is truly amazing, very aware and ready to help which is wonderful!! They did an amazing job, 5/5 for the staff, no complaints there. However, my experience with the manager was not positive. He provided inconsistent and constantly changing information regarding the minimum number of people required to reserve the private room. For me, he told my partner and I that 45 people were required minimum. But later told my sister that it was 40 then 35 or 30 and it just kept changing. One change is not okay, maybe a mistake. But this? Not a mistake, definitely intentional. And if you don't know the correct answer, the right thing to do is find out before relaying any information. I found the inconsistency among the required number of guests and information extremely unprofessional, and it came across as money-driven, which was a major turn-off--especially when paired with the noticeably lower-quality food being served for a special event - aka a Wedding. Now, outside of the event, the buffet itself was excellent. The naan was fluffy and warm, and the chicken and meat dishes were flavorful and well prepared. Based on the buffet alone, I would have given this restaurant a 5 out of 5. The buffet is one I would recommend. However, due to how the event was handled, the inconsistencies, and the poor quality of food provided for what was supposed to be a wedding event, I have to rate this experience a 3 out of 5. Providing customers with inaccurate and inconsistent information, especially from a manager, is not professional and is simply not okay. ESPECIALLY because it was a private party as well in which they are making more money and taking images to promote the area.

Service is the best I have seen around this area. All of the staff we have met were friendly, and the same with the store manager. Ambiance is lovely. You can go here for dates, family brunch, lunch with friends, and even book their private room for parties and decorate it the way you want. Buffet price is great for what you get! I believe you normally get to make your own chaats as appetizers and there are 6 additional dishes. Once, there was even a live pani puri station (delicious)! Also the Naan is fresh and comes hot. We had Dhannu(?) as one of our servers, and he was awesome - very kind and friendly. All the servers were nice but we talked to him the most. If you reserve the room for a private party, you get to make it buffet style with 2 veg app, 2 non veg app, 2 veg entrees, 2 non Veg, rice/naan, choice of 2 desserts, and soda. You can add more for additional price. I added pictures of the items we had selected. The guests also enjoyed the food. Only change we would have done would be replacing the Falooda for a diff dessert. The Falooda was lacking the vermicelli noodles. Also, the butter chicken was lacking chicken. Other than that, all else was great.

The guacamole was amazing.. tangy and flavorful.. just the way I like it, and not bland like in most chain restaurants. Special call out to the Paneer Birria Mulitas which I got based on the manager's recommendation. Very rarely, you eat food that blows your mind.. We all just ordered and paid at the counter, so we didn't have to worry about splitting the checks. Since I'm vegan, it was a little more difficult to accommodate because the tacos I would have liked that were less spicy had cheese on them. The chef accommodated me by adding more beans and rice in the taco, and it turned out really good. I also tried the Black Magic tacos. These were a little spicy for me, but I could really taste the deep flavor. They were just too spicy for me to finish, so I gave them to my friends. My friends who love spice tried the Black Magic tacos and they loved them. In fact, they were their favorite thing on the menu. And they're not even vegan. I like how it's a casual environment where you pick the table you want to sit at. You can combine tables if you need to, grab your forks and knives, get your drinks from the refrigerator, and then order at the counter. This is a good spot for groups because the tables can easily be put together and you can pay at the counter. It's a great place for people who love spice. If you don't like spice, there are a couple things on the menu that aren't spicy and are still delicious, so everyone can be accommodated, whether you love spice, don't love spice, are vegan, gluten-free, vegetarian, or love to eat meat. The restaurant also provides hot sauce if you want your food even spicier, and my friends told me the hot sauce is really, really good. I also love that it was easy to make things vegan here since everything is already vegetarian. We all enjoyed it so much, and we'd like to go back soon.

We had provided a pre selected menu beforehand so that we wouldn't have to worry about taking orders for the group (~15 of us). The restaurant was a great spot to host my dad's birthday- they didn't rush us at all and created an environment in which everyone was able to talk to each other easily. The food itself- - paneer tikka: delicious! A favorite, although there was fewer paneer pieces and more onion pieces. It was very yummy but I wish it was more balanced. Even a better balance between the onion, pepper, and broccoli would have been better. -samosa chat: great! No notes on this one. Was very yummy. - sag paneer: wasn't my favorite, there wasn't anything wrong with it, I just liked other dishes more - dum aloo: this was great! Very tasty. However, we had to keep asking the staff to bring more out instead of them keeping an eye on what dishes needed refilling. Given that we had provided a headcount beforehand of how many people were coming, it was frustrating that not everyone got to try this dish. There was lots of gravy, but not enough aloo. - Methi malai matar: was very tasty! Overall the food was very good and I'd recommend trying as many dishes of theirs as possible. The service itself was frustrating since we had to keep an eye on what needed refilling and inform the staff, instead of them bringing more food out (we were the only group in the restaurant). But that being said, other restaurants are not nearly as accommodating as masala Art. We had initially asked Chand Palace if they would be able to accommodate us and they had told us that we would only get the table for a set amount of time and we weren't allowed to bring decorations or anything like that. We will be back for sure!

Let's start with the food. Done with perfection and pride. The owner personally attends and recommends items, if you do need help. They are into good food and service, with passion. Pakoras we're done to perfection - fresh, crispy, and super savory. Their Naan and Tandori breads were, once again, spot-on (with the right amount of char and crispness). Highly recommend the Kadai Paneer. That smoky flavor- O M G! In fact, even the yellow lentils had the smoky flavor and reminded me of authentic lentils made way back home, in India. Our choices were all vegetarians and I feel we couldn't have gone wrong with other vegetarian choices either. Service with smile. The owner took personal interest in ensuring we had a good time. They accommodated so many of our customization requests that it's unfair to even mention them here because other guests may feel let down if they dine when the place is super busy. Glad we found them and hope this will be our goto place to get that authentic way-back-home yummy flavor! We hope to visit them again, soon!

This is a tight, intimate location with seating for maybe 20 people tops, and that seems generous, but they do pretty fast takeout so I'll usually get it to go. Usually I've got my food within 20 minutes of ordering, but if it's busy you're better calling it in. The food is delicious, and whoa is it spicy, so do not be shy about asking them for the American spicy not Indian spicy or you're going to suffer, but it isn't spicy without flavor to back it up. By that I mean while you'll be crying actual tears from the spice, you'll also taste an incredible palette of flavors and non-atomic spices that are masterfully blended into all the usual classic dishes, and some unique ideas as well. Good mango lassi on the menu, and it is CLEARLY there to mitigate some of this spice, so be sure you get yourself one. The Saag Paneer is a perfect 10 in my book. I got the Lamb Tikka Masala with a plain Naan. It took a little while to come out, but it was so very worth it. I've always had Chicken Tikka Masala, never lamb, and I'm so glad I tried it. Absolutely delish! Sorry I forgot to take the food-porn pics for you when it arrived. I was hungry and distracted by how awesome it smelled. I guess you'll just have to see a photo from the aftermath! This appears to be a mom 'n pop shop, and it may have been the wife who let me in, took my order, served the food, etc. I didn't see any other servers here, and the whole time I'm here (7pm on a Tuesday night), there was only one other table dining here. There were a couple of take-out and delivery orders. I would love to see them bring in some Iced Tea. The decor is a little kitschy, but it's an Indian restaurant, so it works pretty well. It's nothing fancy, and I want even given a knife to cut up the lamb, though she brought a bottled water to the table which appeared to mean that it's complimentary. I would like to suggest to ownership that the bathroom door be cleaned up. It wasn't bad enough to wipe a star off of the review, but it could definitely turn some diners off, and badly. This place is worth a try!

The largely positive reviews and wanting to try out a new restaurant led to this being the choice of dinner spot for meeting up with a friend. While nothing fancy, the interiors are bright and modern with plenty of seating. It can get pretty loud between the high ceilings resonating customer voices and music playing from a speaker with an uncomfortably high bass level. Their website menu online seems to offer additional items that didn't make it into their print in-restaurant menu, so be sure to ask about availability if you notice any discrepancy in items you want to order. We got mango lassis (3/5) to drink, which we saw were poured out of a huge jug (probably made earlier in the day). It was pretty average in taste and we felt it didn't use any fresh mangos in the preparation. To start off, we got the chicken 65 and onion pakoras as appetizers. The chicken 65 (2.5/5) was on the bland side and some pieces of chicken were kind of game-y, so we felt it wasn't good. The onion pakoras (4.5/5) were a unique and more stringy preparation of onions with flavorful chickpea batter, but the best part was that they drained the oil well after frying, so didn't have an oily texture to them. For the main course, we went with the butter chicken masala and a naan. The butter chicken masala (3/5) was pretty average with a thicker and more ginger-based gravy preparation (their online menu pictures a lighter colored and more tomato-based gravy which is what we would have preferred). The naan (3.5/5) was an ample portion and was tasty. While nothing was particularly bad, we felt all the food was pretty average and forgettable for Indian food in central New Jersey, and the ratings you find online for the business seem vastly inflated and not reflective of the quality of the food. The service (2.5/5) was not good as they use a de-centralized service model without a dedicated waiter checking in on you. While the employees were generally friendly and a team member did check in with us once during the meal, nobody paid attention come time to pay the check, and it took several minutes to get the attention of a staff member to get the bill and boxes for leftovers. Given the average food, inattentive service, and tacky/loud bass music playing, we probably won't be back to Mango Tree or be recommending them to others given other better options for Indian food in the area.

One of the best dosas I have had in New Jersey, well that's coming from someone who has dosas every other day! The sambar is typical Tamil Nadu style and good. Again not many restaurants get the sambar right. Pretty prompt and good service. The waiter could be more educated on the menu but was courteous. We also ordered Chicken Sukka and Andhra Chicken Curry. While they were good, had more spice than needed (not the hot spice but more garam masala). The banana leaf under the dosa is a nice touch. But the dried white water marks was a turn off. Overall a great experience and will go again. If they take care of some of these smaller issues at least a 4 star!
