Dr. Kris is great. A friend referred her and I have been her patient for about 5 years. Mary, the receptionist, is friendly and efficient.

I have been going to Murakawa Dental for at least 5 years now, and have been really happy with my dental care each time :D ! Dr Kris, her awesome mom Ida, and her amazing receptionist Mary always go above and beyond to make me feel right at ease :) ! They really treat me like family and always ask how my family and I are doing :D ! I went to my 6-month dental cleaning this morning. Dr Kris and Ida thoroughly cleaned my teeth, and Dr Kris noticed that I have a new cavity that had to be filled. Just like before when I had a cavity on a previous dental visit, she numbed me and filled my cavity so effortlessly that I hardly felt a thing. I never feel scared going to her because I know I am in good hands, and she and her staff always go above and beyond for me and all of their clients :D !! It can be hard to get appointments with her because she is so highly sought-after :) !! But if you can get an appointment with her, you'll be so grateful you did :D !! My former pharmacy school roommate and her husband, and one of my previous co-workers also go to her and they are so happy that they do :) !! I know in my previous review from 5 years ago that I had mentioned that parking can be hard to find. As long as you are ambulatory and able-bodied, you can always find parking right around the corner in the neighborhood behind her office ;) ! I usually always park there and walk over. Just be mindful of any street cleaning signs on certain days, and you should be fine :) ! However, if you need an accessible parking for yourself or for your family member, there is one right in front of her office :) ! read more

Awesome service and prices are quite reasonable . The best is that they don't try to upsell you procedures that you don't need like my previous dentist that was taking X ray of my teeth all the time just to charge the insurance . read more

I've been coming here for 1.5 years now and I truly love it here. The dentist I had in the past, I had for over 20 years of my life before I moved down to SoCal and needed to find a new dentist nearby with my own insurance. When looking for a dentist, I tried to find one that was similar to my experiences in the past. Dr. Murakawa is so sweet, thorough, and efficient. She does all the cleaning and polishing herself all within 25 minutes. Before finding Dr. Murakawa, I tried another dentist nearby and I wasn't impressed because she was way too quick and I didn't even feel like I was getting a real dental cleaning. At this office, Dr. Murakawa tells you how you're doing, places in your teeth that you should pay extra attention too, and makes sure to answer any questions you may have. Not sure if it was an off-day but the person who answered the phone was quite rude. Since my former dentist has retired, I am currently looking for a dentist in the local area. Based on all of the positive reviews, I decided to call and see if they are accepting new patients. The person at the other end of the line seemed annoyed that I would ask such a question and responded in a cold and condescending tone...that "NO they are not taking any new patients" and then hung up. It was instantly awkward and rather unexpected...it didn't leave me with a good feeling. As someone who works in the service industry, I understand that a little bit of courtesy can go a long way but I didn't find that here. read more

I've been going to Dr. Murakwa for about 8 years. Not only is she very knowledgeable in her field, her and her staff make you feel at ease. I was just talking to my wife about how it must be challenging to be in a profession where it's in the top feared things along with public speaking and being burned alive. However, I never felt that way here and is one of the reasons why I will continue to be a loyal patient! I've been scammed in the past by dentists trying to take advantage of my insurance. Once, I was told I has 8 cavities and he said "I'll move my schedule around and fill them all right now." If that isn't a red flag, I don't know what is. Got a second opinion and had no cavities. Thank God that place is gone. Dr. Murakawa is honest and straight forward. She'll explain anything you have questions on and work with you regardless of your situation. read more

My wife had me try her dentist out when I moved to the Los Angeles area. I'm the stereotypical scared of the dentist kinda guy. Let me tell you, Dr. Kris is the absolute best! She's super gentle, explains everything as she's going along and makes the experience a very pleasant one. If I moved away from LA, I would schedule trips back to the city around my dental cleaning schedule just so I could keep Dr. Kris as my dentist. Her whole staff is awesome too! The front desk lady, Mary, is so sweet and outgoing- she really makes you feel at home, she's a ray of sunshine! If you're looking for a new dentist- look no further. My family and I have been coming here for many years (decades). Dr Frank Murakawa started the dental business in Alhambra. The daughter, Kris followed her dad's foot step. All throughout my childhood life I never liked going to the dentist. Dr Kris Murakawa and her staff really made it a very nice and pleasant experience for me. They are friendly and very professional. I came here for annual check up and teeth cleaning, etc...x-ray. They found a cavity under my root canal behind my bicuspid tooth and that they would need to break the old crown to fill the cavity and make a new temporary crown. It took about hour for the entire procedure. They were very gentle and I was never in any discomfort. I left there smiling, but I will returned for the fitting of my new permanent crown after 2 weeks. I highly recommend them. They are the BEST!!! read more

Having had braces for 5 years, I've had a lot of dentist appointments back in the day but I would say that my visit to see Dr. Kris Murakawa was by far the best and most pleasant experience I've ever had. After the good reviews I read on Yelp, I booked an appointment for a routine cleaning. The whole staff is very friendly, cheerful, and nice (even over the phone!). There is a small parking lot in the back of the building (which looks like a house) and the whole office is very clean and modern. Dr. Murakawa was the best part of the visit. She was very friendly and took the time to chat with me for a minute or two before we started the cleaning process. She was quick and gentle, but also very thorough and she even checked my gums for my whole mouth...something that should be done by dentists routinely but I've never had it done before. Also, when I inquired about teeth whitening, I appreciated how she didn't try to sell me their office treatments and instead, suggested at home whitening kits that I can find at drugstores or Sephora. I've been to other family practices before but this definitely felt like "home" to me. Make an appointment here but leave room for me when I need to come back in 6 months! read more

Dr. Kris and her team of staff are very friendly and professional. Mary at the front is super friendly and personable. I'm only rating a 4 star at this time for 2 reasons 1. I've only been to her office once for a cleaning and 2. because I was hoping I could return on my new insurance but they don't currently accept that plan. Highly disappointed that I couldn't remain their patient because of that. Hope I can return again whenever then accept my plan as an In network doctor and not just a doctor that can take the plan because it is PPO. If you are reading this, please consider signing up with Cigna DPPO advantage and i would happily return as a patient! =) I must say that Dr. Kris by far does the BEST thorough cleaning I've ever had. Everything by hand and not the lazy way like so many others who skip on the thorough cleaning by using mechanical instruments for the majority of the cleanings. She's really working hard to get your teeth as clean as possible and does spend a good amount of time to make sure it is as clean as possible! She also has great bedside manners as well as her staff. I would recommend if you are looking for a great dentist who's still in the business for their patients and not just trying to see as many people as possible in a day for profits. read more

I've been coming to the Murakawa office since Dr. Frank "the Mad Scientist" Murakawa was around. While we all miss Dr. Frank very much, it is very nice to see the family practice passed down from one generation to the next. going to see Kris is very painless. She is very gentle and every procedure is executed with absolute precision. Be prepared to call a month ahead to get a Saturday appointment, but with most things, it is worth the wait. Dr. Murakawa was very nice and gentle to both my four year old daughter and myself. I really appreciate the fact that they were very thorough, informative and also fast. When we got there we didn't have to wait and they were already prepared and ready for us upon our arrival. She made my daughter feel very comfortable and even let her help. I hadn't been to the dentist in two years, so when my teeth were starting to ache from cold drinks, I knew it was time. At my previous dentist, I seemed to require a small filling ("We won't even have to numb you") almost every single time I went, and while I guess it could be good to be prophylactic, I felt like it was also a little unnecessary. Imagine my surprise when I was in Dr. Kris' chair and she said I had no cavities after my two-year dental break and that the sensitivity was caused by too stiff of a toothbrush/too hard brushing causing my gums to recede and exposing the root of the tooth. Anytime a professional has the opportunity to make money and walks away from it is a giant plus in my book! read more

I moved to Los Angeles and I brought a bad tooth with me unfortunately. A friend of mine recommended Dr. Murakawa to me and she was everything I needed in a dentist. Professional, friendly and honest. She was thorough and methodical in here work so by the time my root canal was fixed, I knew I wouldn't have to worry about the tooth ever bothering me again. The rest of the staff gets high marks as well. Billing worked out a very agreeable payment plan for me. Just a very friendly and cheerful attitude all around from everyone. I saw Dr. Murakawa after another dental office, "Ktown Dentist," told me I needed to get a very expensive procedure done "immediately" on a tooth that had never given me any problems. Although the dentist at Ktown Dentist seemed ethical, I became suspicious after I declined to get the procedure done that day and the office manager came to see me. She proceeded to try and scare me into getting the procedure for 15 mins, telling me that my tooth was basically going to explode any second and I was going to be in horrible pain. It was annoying. No means no, lady. Anyway, I went to see Dr. Murakawa who (full disclosure) is good friends with one of my good friends. Dr. Murakawa did not think I needed to get the expensive procedure done, and, 5 years later, the tooth that supposedly was going to explode, has not. Since then I see her twice a year for cleanings and all is well. read more

I've been coming to Dr. Kris since around 2010, after being referred by several of my good friends. Being in my 40's, I've been to more than my fair share of dentists, and I'm comfortable saying that I never need to look for another dentist's office again! My friends and I all agree that their pricing is more than fair - but I've always believed that when you're talking about your health, money should never be at the top of the list. The main reason that my wife and I have become loyal patients is that Dr. Kris and her staff are all such wonderful, caring, and honest people. I don't say this lightly - they truly treat their patients like family. I recently had a dental emergency on a Sunday afternoon, and my wife urged me to leave a message on the office's answering service to ask for advice, and to schedule an appointment during the week. Dr. Kris returned my call immediately, listened to my problem, ordered a prescription, gave me some instructions, and let me know that she would squeeze me in as soon as the office re-opened on Tuesday. I can't express how much I appreciated her care and prompt attention. We make it a point to visit her office twice a year for cleaning, and she's done a great job keeping away the cavity creeps! Attentive, caring physicians like Dr. Kris are extremely hard to find. I would not hesitate in passing on my highest recommendation to anyone looking for the highest quality dental care and customer service. read more

Several years ago I was looking for a new dentist in Alhambra. After "interviewing" around four of them, I'm so glad I went with Dr. Kris. -- She has a great bedside manner and very gentle hands. I go for a cleaning every four months and she always remembers my tooth "issues." -- She is conservative/cautious and doesn't recommend unnecessary procedures. Dr. Murakawa and her Mother (who runs the office at this establishment) are wonderful and conscientious people! They genuinely care about your well being and take good care of your dental health. Dr. Murakawa is also a very patient and diligent dentist. She worked on my filling which was an old one from childhood that had to be replaced. She also noticed that there was a cavity underneath which another dentist did not notice. Not only was the whole experience very comfortable, she also did a great job on my filling! Now I don't have one of those old silver fillings and instead a more modern filling which is camouflaged with the rest of my teeth. After the roots were cleaned out, Dr Kris installed a crown. My wife said it was painless and the price was right. The receptionist was friendly and courteous. Dr. Murakawa has been my dentist over the past few years, and the experience has been much better than my time with other dentists. She thoroughly cleans my teeth and makes sure that I have all the necessary checks (e.g, x-rays). The staff is professional and cheery and the office is a very positive place. Hands down, best root canal experience ever. Request her for the " Magic Anesthesia Massage " procedure if you are afraid of the usual painful anesthetic injection. I dont even realized its done and didnt feel a thing. The root canal is done in less than 30 mins. Not a bit of painful sensation at all. She's fully booked, so be prepared to wait for weeks.
