Andy made the whole process a snap, was straightforward, fair, and no nonsense/haggling. Won't get in to the particulars, but he and I also see eye to eye on a lot of life, and it was nice to speak with someone who has a complimentary worldview. Great guy. Great shop. Highly recommended for first timers like me. He's earned a repeat customer.

Dealing with Brad and Don was a terrific experience…read more I recently inherited gold and coins (US and foreign). Now, what I know about the valuing coins and gold is, well, next to nothing. So I clearly was playing in their ballpark. Sure, I did my due diligence to see generally speaking what I might expect to get for these items. Boy, one coin on eBay was $250-$900. Anyway, long story short I was able to come up with values that seemed reasonable. Then subtracting what I thought their overhead would be and I had in my head general selling prices for my stuff. I met with Don, their chief numismatist. He's been in the business for decades and boy, did I get a lesson on not just my gold and coins but on a lot of other fascinating info as well. It turns out that I was pretty darn close on my stuff. Over estimated on some, got more for others. And, surprisingly, I overestimated their margin. I felt respected as a complete and utter novice, treated very well, received more than a fair price and an education to boot.

Armed with a small collection of old coins and paper money (both foreign and domestic) left over…read morefrom a family member who has since passed, this was the place to take them. Doc and his staff immediately welcomed us and were eager to help. They provide 2 options ... one of which is the "quick and dirty" where they will look through your collection collectively and give you an appraisal based what they see or the more detailed version (for true collectors) where they sit down and grade each piece, etc. The latter of which will run you a bit of money, the former is free of charge. We opted for the "quick and dirty". They spent the better part of an hour eagerly helping, answering questions, and educating us. As someone who is NOT a collector, the experience was actually a lot of fun. They quickly identified pieces that were common and those that were rare. More importantly, they were MORE than fair. They not only told us what they would pay for each piece, but what the retail value was / what they sell them for. Keep in mind, the retail value is higher, but they are a business and need to make a few bucks, too. After they write up the estimate, you have the option of returning within 30 days to honor their quote. Honesty ... Integrity ... and BONUS ... Veteran Owned! We WILL be back

My husband and I bought my engagement ring from Reliable more than 6 years ago. At the time, I was…read morethe worst kind of customer: needy, anxious, and pretty demanding. I think I drove everybody crazy, my husband included. But the guys at Reliable remained helpful and patient. Over the years, Reliable has serviced the ring when I bent one of the prongs, sold me my wedding bands, and bought the stone back when I wanted to upgrade. Their commitment as jewelers is excellent. Since buying my engagement ring, I've actually started working in the jewelry industry myself, selling engagement rings. I work for a great place in Bethesda. When my younger brother went to buy his girlfriend's ring, I could have gotten him a great deal on a stone. But instead, I recommended that he go with Reliable, because I knew they would give him a great price on the stone, and more importantly, they would service the product long after vows were exchanged. That's important to keep in mind when you buy a diamond -- will the jeweler stand by their product? Will you be able to easily and conveniently take your ring back to the jeweler? With Reliable, the answer was a definite "Yes." So, pay no mind to the pawn shop exterior -- this place is a great place for picking out a well-priced and gorgeous engagement ring in the NC area.
