I had really high hopes... but everything was incredibly overpriced... the selection was absolutely minimal... and to make things worse they have the most complicated selling process I've seen at any shop... you have to register no more than 25 cards on their website... and they don't accept cards over $40 which was never explained to me over the phone or I wouldn't have wasted my time. There are much better shops in the area. read more

So my kiddo use to be seriously into Pokémon and the tournaments. This store use to be in a different location, but as soon as I walked in I recognized it. They have it set up exactly like it was in the previous location. It was so weird like totally déjà vu. We are all painting minis for my husband's charity stream and I needed to pick out one. They had a really good selection to choose from and I found a really cool multi head snake character (yes, it has a name and NO, I don't remember and I am too lazy to get off the couch to look, honestly y'all). The staff were friendly and helped us get checked out quickly. My husband chatted with them about various geeky things and I feel like I had to drag him out of the store. read more

This store is a board game lover's paradise. Seriously, they have hundreds of games, merchandise and all the expansions you can imagine. The store is pretty big and although they have a ton of games and merchandise, the store somehow still feels slightly too big? Not a big deal but I definitely had that thought while walking around (I assume there is some kind of event that happens in non-covid times but have no clue). Shout out to whoever the artist is that painted their wall though, because WOW! So cool. My boyfriend and I love to play board games together and we actually have gotten a few from Game Theory before and have never had a bad experience. Prior to finding this store, I never even considered seeking out a locally owned biz to buy games from (because we buy a lot of them) for some reason. Thankful for this discovery! Navigation and parking is always super easy. We stopped by last time to browse some games hoping to find a Christmas gift for his brother. Even though I didn't find anything he would necessarily love, I would definitely come back again to buy something for myself lol. Shop local! The employees have always been friendly and willing to ask if we had any questions or needed help with our selections. The play space is nice and mostly clean that's about all I can say for this shop. Do not buy singles or really any product from them, you will experience a 70%-100% markup on just about everything you find and they are not willing to price match at all. Their policy is just "someone will buy it" and they know that demand will allow them to gouge prices as much as they want. There are some genuinely nice people and I have a couple of friends that work there but their standard response to questions about their prices are "That's just because of demand and someone will eventually buy it". Please, Do not support this business at all. Game theory is easily in the top echelon of what I would consider to be scummy business practices and toxic behavior. read more

Nicely appointed board game store in Raleigh. I went here with my family for Father's Day bc my husband and son love playing board games. The first thing I noticed was the size of their play room - there are many tables, and a semi private room in the corner. The rest of the store is filled with a good selection of Euro games, books, miniatures, and other game related items. From what I noticedlike a great place to hang out with your friends and play games on a lazy afternoon. It is located in the middle of a strip mall that has restaurants and other retail stores. It's clean inside and the items are priced fairly. My husband and son enjoyed looking around here; they eventually purchased a game that we will hopefully play in the near future. read more

Wow! First time visit today. Loved it. Here's what made it special: 1. The store was comfortable, well stocked, and well organized. 2. The selection was great. Yes, lots of mainstream board games and D&D, but ALSO stuff like Alice is Missing, multiple copies of a Mork Borg zine, Bluebeard's Bride supplements, and both editions of Fiasco. That's impressive! 3. We asked a staff member for a few recommendations - two-player games, theme-heavy, small box. The staff member was friendly, engaged, fun to talk to, and their recs were spot on! 4. The staff has great energy and we're all fun to chat with. Can't wait to go back! read more

Game Theory is a little hidden gem of a game store. It's at the back of a strip mall, so it's kind of hard to find. Some of the games they sell include: Board games: Descent, Cosmic Encounters, Catan, Talisman, etc. Role-playing games: D&D, Hero Games, Pathfinder, Gurps, etc. Miniature games: Warhammer, Malifaux, Heavy Gear, etc. Card games: Flux, Gloom, Lunch Money, Killer Bunnies, etc. Collectable Card games: Magic the Gathering, World of Warcraft, etc. They also cater to us gaming nerds with a variety of junk food and caffeine laden drinks, all at reasonable prices. While they have a large variety of gaming materials, they don't carry a lot of stock. They will however order items for you if they don't have it. The section they have for their retail stock takes up maybe a third of the store. The rest is open for gaming which is the best thing about this place. They have several tables and a couple of small rooms for customers. They have a weekly schedule which you can find at www.meetup.com/game-theory So if you're looking for a place to pick up a new pack of cards, check out the latest D&D manual or sit down with some dice and a few friends, check this place out. read more

Probably the worst place to buy Pokémon cards if you are trying to save money. They sell all of their items for more than anything you can buy at retail. For example normal packs that are $4 at target cost around $5.30. Also I had called back in November of last year about if they had any Celebrations Ultimate Premium Colector boxes and they said there was a wait list so I gave them my info. Fast forward 5 months, I had already found 2 at Barnes and Nobles for the retail price of $120. They had the nerve to leave me a voicemail saying they finally got some in and are selling them for $500. What a joke. I get charging the current market price on stuff but they are still charging significantly higher than EVERYWHERE. Friendly staff but if you don't want to pay a fortune for things you can find literally anywhere else, then I wouldn't recommend buying from here. read more

Games are awesome. Staff is amazing. And the people at the store are all fabulous. Can't think of a better group of people or place to have so much going on. They improved the space when they moved to Glenwood and it's just a brighter and more inviting place. Such a variety of games plus they'll help get it if they don't have it in stock. There weren't a lot of games to browse, but they do have a large selection of opened games that you can play in their large open area in the middle of the store. The associates working were really helpful at providing insight into games I had questions about. They also have things well-sorted, so if you are like me and get overwhelmed looking at board games on shelves without knowing anything about them, they have Staff Picks and Best Selling games. This place is for hardcore gamers. Maybe I'm a bit ignorant b/c I don't play games at all. But my keen judgment deems it "legit". It's located in the back of the Starbucks where Harris Teeter have all their docking trucks/dumpsters. It's as if Harris Teeter grew a benign tumour on its ass and that tumour really liked gaming. I went twice, looking for a nice board game to play. They had a huge group of what seemed like a RPG group. It smelled bad inside the store. It was a warm day outside in February, so I think their heat was still on. But it smelled like 15 RPG gamers in a small store on a hot day with the heat still on. *shudders* They do seem very friendly and clearly have lots of repeat customers as everyone seems to know everyone. read more

If you're here looking for Perfect Bayesian Equilibrium, Subgame Perfect Nash Equilibrium, or Bargaining Games with decay parameters, you're probably not in the right place. That's a different Game Theory, as I learned this semester. And I got an H in that class, so I should know the difference between the two :) . Game Theory (the store) is quite the interesting place. I like Susan's description of the location: it's hidden behind the Harris Teeter, an afterthought in a way. For starters, if you're here for casual games, that's not Game Theory's thing. The closest I saw among their selection for a "standard" game was Apples to Apples. Game Theory is for people who play more extensive games. Settlers of Catan, Munchkin, Killer Bunnies, etc. They also had a prominent section for things related to Warhammer, D&D, Magic, etc. Really their primary purpose seems to be the game tables, with nightly game nights for everything from board games to Warhammer. The supplies are in place too, from snacks to coffee, all set up for people to play for the evening. A nice touch, and a good way to keep people there and engaged in their games, and to build community. Overall, it seems like a nice place. It fits a niche quite well, and the tables were a nice touch. It's a little too far out of the way for me, but I appreciate its existence. read more

I adore board games and frequent this store as it the only quality board game store I found. Despite being a discount earning customer due to my repeated purchases, on multiple occasions I have heard the staff making negative comments about me and I wish this could be an environment where I can do what I enjoy (and what I frankly should be able to do) browse and buy board games without being judged for......using the store? With the exception of one wonderful unicorn, members of this staff lack respect and human decency, but attempt to compensate with a wealth of board game knowledge. read more

Really great place. I love the game selection and the customer service is stellar! I've recently gotten into the board gaming hobby and this place has been awesome. They answer all my n00bish questions without being condescending (like some places can be to newcomers). Their prices on games are basically MSRP which is what you expect to find at a brick & mortar store. Sure, Amazon may have it cheaper, but why not support your FLGS when you can? This is hands-down the best game store in Raleigh. Founded by gamers for gamers, this store is unfortunately too small to have everything--most of its floorspace is given over to gaming tables to give gamers a place to meet and play. However, anything that's in print that they don't have, they're more than happy to order for you. There's a back room containing a library of game materials that you can read without buying, and plenty of snacks and a kitchen available. Games are run here every night and on weekends, and the store is almost always packed full of gamers. It's great to see a game store so vibrant and busy! read more

The customer service here has always been amazing. Abe is beyond helpful, funny as hell, extremely knowledgeable. The store itself is always well stocked with games of all sorts of games and books. There are open versions of the games for you to play and try on their multiple tables. Regardless of your level of gaming, you are always welcome. They have a loyalty discount too. They have live events and Friday night magic. Even though there are other game stores closer to where my new home in Clayton is, I will still drive to this store because the people make it worth it.. read more

A great store with a large selection of board games, table top games and magic the gathering. They always seem to have an event going which is great for players and makes for a exciting atmosphere. The staff are friendly and are always willing to lend a hand. They are knowledgeable and have great recommendations for new gamers. The only downside is they seem to have slightly higher prices than other stores like this one but I have found I'm willing to pay that price for all the other perks. read more
