Kris is a super nice person but is the Worst Matchmaker Ever! I say this a someone who's done retained search for almost 30 yrs. When you're on a retainer it's critical to be in touch with clients regularly and get feedback from both candidate and client after every interview. Kris doesn't do any of this. In fact, she only had one call with me on feedback and only on the first date she arranged. I assumed, given my profession, that she'd want to debrief on dates. She scheduled me on 5 dates in the first 2 months, so I was encouraged even though there were some issues that could have been avoided if she'd bothered to have feedback calls after each date.
She was slinging spaghetti against the wall to see what stuck, which is typically how contingent recruiters work (a job she held prior to becoming a matchmaker). After the 5 dates, we met to discuss. She was late as she was for our first appointment. I should have known when she didn't' manage her time appropriately and brought her dog that distracted her for the first 15 minutes of our 80 min first meeting that this was a red flag. Hoped I was wrong.
Kris allows clients to take up to 3 months off and have that time added to their contract. I signed up for six months on 3/26/18 and took a 2 month break after my first two months, extending my membership to 8 months from sign up. She met me after the 5 dates the first words she said were, "I'm giving you a free month" because of her poor service and communication. Then there were 2 three and a half month periods when I never heard from her and had no dates, which would put me out to 16 months from the time I signed up, or to 7/26/19.
It's also important to note that she virtually never responded to email and when she did it typically took at least five days or more. She also never answered her phone and, like email, didn't respond to voicemail. When she does communicate it is through iPhone messages. She texts a message, which is a great way for her not to have to speak with clients.
There were a few times we did speak, which I appreciated, but mostly heard of all her personal drama, which is considerable. This drama perpetually distracted her from doing the job I and her other clients paid her for. She made two dates with me in December 2018 to meet for drinks and discuss some of the issues and both times she blew me off. I had suggested she hire a coach and she told me she had two friends who were going to help her. Guess what? If you're not willing to pay for professional help you're not committed to making changes. She also told me that she was thinking about taking 30 days off from her business as she said all her clients were angry with her and she didn't want to lose her business, something I was very supportive of. In the end she said she couldn't afford to take time off, a huge mistake in my professional opinion.
Then there were the many profiles she sent that she wanted me to meet that she never followed up on. Why send someone a profile if you're not going to make a date? I think it's her way of keeping clients on the hook. And there was a man who could never meet other than Sunday evenings, which is the only night that's really bad for me. No matter how flexible I was he could never get his act together. When he finally committed to a date, after his twins went to college, he immediately told Kris he had something else come up and had to move the date. She explained to him that he would get one more chance and if he cancelled that too, then he'd never meet me. She got him rescheduled and I walked in the door 2 min prior to the date and he never showed up. Very long story short, I called her and told her what happened, and she was furious and told me that he'd already done that to another date she set him up on that week. Turns out the guy did show up 30 min early and left just before I arrived. WTH?
The last time I heard from her was 3/15/19 at 10:59pm. She sent me a profile of a man on 3/14 who lives in Westminster and wanted us to meet on 3/16, which worked for us. She wanted us to meet in Golden, 25 min from him and over an hour from me. I explained that this didn't make any sense and I'd prefer to meet somewhere in the middle, which would have been around DU. With the exception of 2 or 3 dates, I did most of the driving to meet these men. I think it's because she doesn't know the south metro area so stays with what's familiar. I responded to her late-night message the next morning and heard back from her via text voicemail that the man had concerns about our distance. That was the last I ever heard from her.
To wrap up, she owes me another 4 1/2 months for all the months of no dates. I guess she figured it was easier to avoid a very unhappy client. It's just sad; she's truly a lovely person but has no idea how run a business or communicate with clients. For the life of me I can't figure out how she's managed to stay in business. Probably because there's not much competition, read more
