I looooove Kreyol Delight. I was introduced to the place by a Haitian friend so I knew I was getting an authentic experience. After my initial experience here, I made it my business to try the other local Haitian restaurants and none are comparable. My favorite menu item is the groot, sos pwa and the pikliz. The pikliz is TO DIE FOR. I wish they would large batch it and sell it. I would literally eat it on anything. The place has tables to dine in, if you want, but I wouldn't describe it as a welcoming environment for a dine in experience. And this has nothing to do with service, there is no table service, it's just kind of plain and not much color or excitement that would entice you to linger inside. I love this place but just like any high traffic restaurants in Tampa Florida, something always goes wrong. This place ambience and service is pretty cool. They're very friendly, polite, and able to communicate with you to order if you don't speak the language but as for the food it was overpriced and little disappointing. I frequently go to this restaurant and I love their homemade juices, but on that occasion I ordered some juices and a plate of large griyo with fried plantains to go. By the time I got home, Not only my order was wrong. My fried griyo smelled spoiled and rice and beans was bland , I couldn't even taste it and I didn't even order rice. It seems that they made food in bulk and nobody checked to see if the meat was still fresh . This could've been a mistake but I was so disappointed I instantly had to throw it away. read more

I used to love that place, but today reminded me why we stopped going. There are at least four other places nearby, but I was craving fried snapper. It's summer--the fish shouldn't be that expensive. A fried snapper shouldn't even fit in a foam plate. My dad owns a restaurant just three blocks away, and we like to support local businesses, including yours, now and then. I understand how this industry works. A $30 to $45 snapper deserves better than a foam plate. When I called to address this, the person I spoke to was very rude, suggesting that only a Haitian person would complain. Well, this Haitian person knows what I'm talking about, which is exactly why I'm calling. There's no reason for you to have customers paying half the price you pay for the box; that's just dishonest. You sent me an enormous bowl of black rice when the cost to make that rice is likely more than the fish itself, especially when black mushrooms in this community are so pricey. This place deserves every single 5-star it gets. whenever I am in the Bay Are, Kreyol Delight is my only spot for some really tasty Haitian dishes. once you taste the best, no need to taste the rest. They were out of a fried chicken and fish which was what I really wanted to try and their menu is small so there weren't many alternatives. I settled on the fried pork (griyo). It was delicious: seasoned, tender, and fried in a way that didn't dry out the meat. There were a few pork pieces that were basically all fat and inedible. They give you a lot of rice and beans. The pikliz was also great with it. I even loved the fried plaintains which were smashed & fried crispy. I also sample a little of my friend's oxtails and they were just the right amount of spicy. Wonderful Haitian food made fresh. Be aware that they'll fry up your food to order, so be prepared to wait 10-20 minutes for your meal, no matter how empty the restaurant is. I had the Griot. Lots of very tender, crispy pork. To counter the rich meat, I had the black rice (rice made with lima beans) and pikliz. The pikliz were the best I've ever had, spicy and also citrusy. I could have eaten a gallon! I highly recommend everything that I ate. Even the fried plantain, which is often a throwaway part of my meal was good. Just light tasty (very crispy), perfectly seasoned. The setting isn't great, and the service is hit or miss (actually, the young man who brought out the food was very nice). Rare Ethnic Food No. 20 Haitian cuisine is unique in certain way. I am guessing they probably start with what they can find in the island. It is unique in their way of cooking using the ingredients at the island. The restaurant is counter order and bring to the table. We have order the Oxtail (Ke bef) and the Fritay Konple. The oxtail come with the side of plantain and one choice of side. Definitely pick the Diri Djon Djon. This rice have a lot of flavor and it have unique taste. The Fritay Konple is fried goat piece come with plantain and a fried veggies that I do not even know the name. The goat is chop to pieces. The meat closer to the bone is the best. Is is a bit tough but it is adventure to try. Overall is very good experience. We have special home made drink with mix of passion fruit and some other fruit. Not sure what the actual mix. I happened to run across this restaurant as I was shopping at a neighboring mercado. It's been here for over five years and has a steady stream of customers. I was in a rush so ordered my dinner to go. Unlike some eating establishments that tend to give you less if you order out, Kreyol Delight packs in a hefty amount of food in their containers. Every bit of it is great! I had never tried the Haitian cole slaw so I started with that. The texture is fresh and crisp while the juice it sits in is fiery hot. I put some of it on the plantains to help compensate for the fire but left enough to savor with the chicken. That chicken, by the way, is juicy inside and, coupled with the seasonings on the skin, got me purring just like a cat curled up in a corner. The flavor is so good that I wanted to take my time eating it so I could prolong the flavor in my mind. I had to skip the beans which normally come with the rice (some people say the black rice is the best) due to a food allergy of mine but don't let that stop you from trying them. It's a favorite on the menu. You know when you taste rice sometimes and it looks crusty and tastes dry? You won't find any of that here. Each grain is like a plump pillow of pleasure - soft, moist and, if rice can be so, slightly addicting. I tried some of the dipping sauce on the rice and it added a mellow, complementary flavor to the grain. The Haitian fried plantains stood well on just their natural flavor and the oil used to cook them. They're practically substitutes for a rich fried bread to sop up the juice of the chicken, the cole slaw juice and the sauce. I definitely plan to stop in again and try more on the menu. This place got unique Haitian dishes. I had a fried goat, fried plantain, fried veget platter with spicy coleslaw. They were good. My real flavored was their black rice side dish called Diri Djon Djon. Rice was mixed in black bean and the tasted was so unique that not like any black bean rice I had before. This was the real stand out dish. The oxtail was also delicious- tender and flavorful. The sitting area was decent and clean. The portion was just right. The pricing wasn't particularly low.
