As I walked into the restaurant, there were no one inside so I had enough time to ask my questions. She was delightful and very helpful in explaining what my questions were. I ordered the Dahl goat roti, plantains and a doubles. It's curry chick peas with in the skin. It was clean but couldn't understand why there were no customers except for the call in orders. But overall the tables and ambience was nice. Oh my total was $24. Didn't think it supported what I received., the food was a mid for me. I like my curry goat cooked until tender no chewing a lot. This restaurant was recommended by a fellow yelper and boy I am so glad I decided to check it out. The lady taking orders was very helpful and friendly. I ordered doubles with pepper, pholourie, bara with tamarind sauce and fudge for dessert. Everything was full of flavor and delicious. The doubles were fluffy and fresh. I do not know how I have not reviewed this place before but the fact I did not was a disservice to Caribbean Crown. I LOVE the vegetarian options here!!! If you are a vegetarian I believe you will love it. Everything is so flavorful, especially the pumpkin based curry goodies and seems made to order. The pumpkin filled roti skin was amazing and the doubles are tasty! I also am a fan of the phoulourie. The accompanying tamarind sauce is delectable. I have also had fish stew/soup here and it tasted fresh and flavorful (not sure if they still offer it). There are several sweet/dessert offerings in a case by the counter. In the fridge there are drinks such as sorrel. Caribbean Crown is off busy Busch Blvd. in a strip mall with a few other businesses. There is a friendly woman who works there who takes your order (I think she is the owner's wife). I cannot remember is she is from Guyana or is Trini. Parking is available out front. If I lived closer to CC I would be here every week, but alas, I live on the opposite side of town. I have been lusting after their pumpkin based savory entrees--I am wayyy overdue for a visit! First and foremost, the service was amazing ! The owner greeted us and was so kind as we entered her place of business. She gave us a few recommendations on what to order as first time customers and let me tell you, the food did not disappoint ! I ordered doubles, samosas and pholourie. My favorite of the three (if I had to choose) was the doubles ! It tasted so fresh and flavorful. The sauces blended together nicely and I was super satisfied with my order. The phoularie and the samosas were also very good and satisfying! I will be coming back to try a different dish next time. Great Trinidadian food with friendly service. I got take out. I called ahead, told them I'd be there in 15-20 minutes, and when I showed up 18 minutes later, my food was hot and ready to go. I had the goat curry with rice and beans and collard greens. I liked that the collard greens were still vibrant green and not overcooked. Also, there were plenty of beans in the rice, not like some other places where you get about 4 beans per serving. The goat was pretty bony and skimpy on the actual meat, but the flavor of the goat was mild, and the meat was very tender. I came here with my boy as we were both in the mood for some aloo pie and doubles. I checked the google reviews here and it seemed it was the best place to try that wasnt too far from home. We ordered aloo pie, doubles, and pholourie, the aloo pie does not come with any channa and that is an extra charge. The aloo pie is very small compared to the ones I have had in NY at Singhs Roti Shop, although it was very good. The doubles were my favorite and the pholourie was okay since I have had better. We told them to put pepper sauce in everything we ordered so it certainly had a good kick to it. Lady behind the counter was very polite, maybe she was the owner, although not sure. Be prepared to wait as it takes a few minutes to get your food, there are about 3-4 tables inside to sit in as well. One thing I do wish was if the prices were lower and similar to NY. It's a very casual comfortable place that shares a strip mall with Petra Restaurant (not the Petra hookahclub across the street) a Latin market with a great food counter, and the Haitian eatery Kreyol Delight. After finishing up Luke Cage Season 2 recently, I knew I wanted to get some Jamaican food. I was recommended CC by Nick S. aka Nickthaniel. It is on a nondescript plaza and is adjacent to Petra Middle Eastern Cuisine pm Busch Blvd.. Upon entering, you can see an vibrant yellow/red/green cafe with flags of various Caribbean countries. Note: There is a five dollar minimum to use credit card. There is one lady who handles dine in and take out orders. She was very friendly. I had to wait 12 minutes but when she brought out the food. I was in awe. There were 4 pieces of chicken, rice and "peas" (red rice and beans for us Yankees) and cabbage. This amount of meat in a $9 combo meal dwarfs food Ive had in Level 2 chain restaurants and makes Chipotle/Moe's look microscopic in comparison. While I've had Caribbean food at Jerk Hut on Fowler and Jerk Pit on Fletcher, CC blows them away. The chicken was so soft and had awesome level of spice. (For folks who are scared, there is a normal or spicy option that she asks before taking the order) The rice and beans was so awesome that I ate it fully before the meat. Whoever owns a Mexican restaurant should study how these guys make it since most ESE restaurants are mediocre here and seem to coast by on rice and beans. Im generally not a big cabbage fan, but they prepared it so well here. While I was eating, I noticed many customers coming and getting takeout so they seem to have a thriving business. I really loved the food, and thought I should take something home since Friday nights I dont like to cook anything. I ordered a chicken curry roti to take home . Later in the evening after doing groceries and swimming, I got to the roti , thinking it would be a small wrap or burrito. It was a giant square shaped dish with chicken and potato pieces wrapped with a roti. Im not joking when I said this one thing would be enough for Juggernaut, or Mark Henry (400 lb wrestler). I could only eat half and saved the rest for tonight. They also serve beef patties, plaintains, doubles and some veg curries in addition to homemade Caribbean drinks like Ginger beer, sorrel. They also have canned sodas incuding Jupina here. Yay! Cons: They close early 7 or 8 pm. Sunday is fully closed. There is a $1 dollar surcharge to make boneless curry roti. Overall: This is a "Saigon Deli" type of gem in Tampa. Excellent food, hearty portions, low prices, great customer service and its in North Tampa. GO GO GO ! I have the OX tail that was cook for long time to make it soft. It cook in the Caribbean spice and has a lot of Indian influence. The tail must be slow cook to make it separate from the bone. Finally! I've been on the hunt for a great West Indian Resturant since I moved to Tampa 2yrs ago. I'm Trini-American and I was raised on the BEST and most AUTHENTIC island dishes (thanks Mom Mom ) so my pallet can be real picky with commercial restaurants claiming to carry authentic West Indian dishes. I'm sure there are great ones out there, but none that I have found that were reminiscent of the authentic spots in Trinidad or even Miami (The Melting Pot Capital!). I was pleasantly surprised with stumbling across this beauty. Honestly, the whole plaza is chalk full of good international eats but that's another post ! Anyway, u walk in, and it's a quaint diner-style/Mom & pop vibe. The atmosphere is filled with tributes to the West Indies and the Caribbean Isles! (If you don't know, West Indians (Island ppl in general! Ha!) are REAL proud to represent their country...and the flags on the tables and walls, didn't leave anyone out! (Where my Trini-Massive!!!!! ) I gave them 4 stars only because I have yet to try other dishes. I have been their twice now and have tried the vegetarian dish (curried soya chunks, pumpkin and a side of Dahl) and the second time I had a little of what my son ordered, the curried goat w/ potatoes and parata, which is like a fried bread/dough on the side. We call it (bussup shot or Parata In Trinidad) but it's somewhat similar to a naan. Everything was very tasty, but I did have one complaint. The Dahl and Curried Goat were kind of watery. That can be either two things...adding too much water to "stretch the pot" as in...have more servings from one pot of food, or it was just too fresh a pot, and the ingredients hadn't had time to marry and thicken up. Either way, the food was still great, and I will go back again. Customer service was pretty good too! She wasn't very chatty as I did tell her I was excited to find the place. I wound up at Caribbean Crown because my wife's boss wanted to introduce me to some Jamaican food. His reason for choosing this particular place was that Caribbean Crown has a vegetarian menu that J-Fur and I could select from. Upon entering Caribbean Crown, I was surprised to see that it reminded me a lot of some pizza places back in PA. There was a very small seating area, beverages were all bottled or canned and in a cooler off to the side that you grabbed yourself, your order was taken at a counter, the food was cooked in back, brought out on a tray and wrapped in paper. Payment for your meal was collected at the end. The vegetarian menu includes a number of different rotis and a "sandwich" called a double. I had no idea what either of these were so, on recommendation from the counter person, I ordered two doubles, a roti and a side of fried plantains. Judging by the prices, I figured the food amount would be small (these four items would run me about 12 bucks). Boy did I botch that one. The waitress brought out J-Fur and her bosses' trays first. Then she went back for my TWO. Yep, so much food it wouldn't fit on one tray. One thing is for sure, Caribbean Crown doesn't skimp on their portions. But would it taste good? That's what I was about to find out. I decided to start with one of the double sandwiches. They were unlike any sandwich I'd ever had. The "bread" was similar to an Indian puri meaning that it was puffy and unleavened. The texture reminded me of bread that had been soaking in liquid for a bit. It was firm and held together, but it had an almost slimy feel. I'm not doing the meal justice, comparing it to slime, but I really have never eaten anything that was similar. Inside the bread was a chickpea and potato mixture that had a bit of sweetness (cinnamon?). I added some hot pepper sauce to it. The sandwich was excellent. I loved the sweet/spicy/sloppy combo and the softness of the bread. I would return (and did a few weeks later) just to eat a double. Next I turned my sights to the roti. Caribbean Crown's version of the roti was very similar to a burrito but instead of stuffing the insides with lettuce, salsa, guacamole, cheese and beans, it is filled with a potato and chickpea mixture (they have other vegetarian roti fillings, but this is the one we went for). The roti lacked the sweetness of the double but upped the spice a bit. It wasn't enough to make J-Fur back away but it made its presence felt. The roti was huge, completely filling and delicious. I would call it some of the best ethnic cheap eats in Tampa. Overall impressions? I returned two weeks later. Does that say enough? I loved it. I enjoyed both sandwiches and the unique qualities they brought to the table. Caribbean Crown gives you a lot of food for very little price. I picked up the tab for the meal and three rotis, two doubles, three drinks, fried plantains and dessert only set me back a little over thirty dollars. read more

Located on E Busch, it's out of the way from the USF campus but the low prices and good food made up for the drive. If you love Roti, Caribbean Crown offers chicken, beef, shrimp and goat. You can choose the get the curried protein or strewed. My date got the curry goat roti with some spice. You have the option of getting either mild or spicy however, you can ask to adjust the levels of spice when you're ordering it. The goat roti was deliciously tender and tasty with a good amount of spice. The only setback was that you have to remove the bones as you eat unlike other roti shops that serve boneless, but you can't complain for the price and portion size. There's another part of the menu that isn't roti which I ordered from. I got the stew chicken with rice and cabbage. I loved my food, the chicken was tender and flavorful. The rice and cabbage balanced out the meal very well but you can also choose to get a side of salad or rice with beans instead. Caribbean Crown is very generous with their portion sizes as well, you'll definitely be full for an admirable price. We also picked up some beef patties on our trip.
