I wandered over here for a treat after having lunch at Baw Baw's, a new bbq restaurant just down the street. I've actually visited this spot before hoping for lunch. I think it's technically a dairy bar, of which there are several remaining in the north Alabama / southern TN area - a few of which are also, somewhat confusingly, named Kreme Delite. However, the other dairy bars I've visited have slightly more extensive menus than this one (usually including chicken tenders, burgers, and other typical fast food items, though usually done better than a McDonald's or Burger King). This location only offers ice cream (soft serve) creations and hot dogs. Limited options if you want a real meal. On this visit, however, I just wanted a treat. They have soft serve in scoops or cones, milkshakes, and I believe soda floats. You walk up to counter and order while staff waits on you at a window. There isn't really any seating that I recall; I ate in my car. That said, service was supremely bubbly and nice -- the young woman who took my order was very friendly and warm. My order was prepared quickly. I got a cup of vanilla and chocolate soft serve swirl. I didn't want it to be completely plain so I got crumbled Reese's cups on top. The pricing is a little...confusing, I guess. A small cup of ice cream is $2.94, which given the size of the serving, is extremely generous. However, to add any toppings, it's $1.88 for each topping. This seems like a lot for crumbled Reese's. It was a LOT of crumbled Reese's, so I guess not completely incongruous pricing, but personally I'd prefer a small smattering for like .99 cents rather than a veritable candy bar on top of my ice cream for almost $2. Idk, maybe that's just personal preference. Anyway, my MASSIVE treat was decent! I have a strong preference for fattier, denser ice cream as opposed to soft serve, but for what it was, the vanilla and chocolate both were fairly flavorful. They were also both quite smooth, as good soft serve should be. I enjoyed the pile of crumbled Reese's cups on top. Personally, I don't think I liked it well enough that I'd return with any particular regularity, but that's probably more a personal preference than anything. If you like soft serve treats, I imagine this place would do the trick quite well. read more

Go back in time for classic soft ice cream, the best!

Having grown up in the area, took my family back there on a random Saturday. Ordered, waited and the clerk told us the icecream was not setting up and we couldn't have what we ordered (items that affected 3-4 people's order) I told her I understood and asked for refund, to which her response was "we don't offer refunds...you have to call the owner and come back later to meet them to get it." WHAT!?! I explained we were in from out-of-town and that option wouldn't work for us. So we ended up getting drink that didn't add up to the total of what we order that no one really wanted. If you have a restaurant that takes my money but you can't provide what is on the menu, you are obligated to give me a refund if you cannot fulfill my order, and not when it's convenient for you. Sadly this ruined our visit and lost lots of respect for this establishment. read more

My family and I have been coming to this little place since before sliced bread was a thing. Okay.. maybe not THAT long, but you get the picture. I've never been let down here whether I want a banana split, milkshake, ice cream sundae, or a hot dog, it's always excellent. They accept cash and cards, but no checks. There's decent covered seating around the back. It's lacking a bit in parking, but there's really nothing that can be done about it due to their location. There's always ample parking across the street. read more

When I load up the family and head out for ice cream, I'm not looking to spend an arm and a leg -- I'm looking for reasonable nostalgia. That's what Kreme Delite provides. Oh, Kreme Delite. What can I say that hasn't been said? I've been coming her for years, practically as far back as I can remember and nothing has really changed. They're still cranking out delicious soft serve in the form of cones, banana splits, sundaes and other various sweet treats. It's such a humble, unassuming shop and is definitely an Athens staple. It's also one of the cheapest places I know to get a ridiculous amount of ice cream. The cone sizes range from small to large but stick with the small. This place is a true southern icon dating back to the early 1950's. Even though this small, white building sits behind many newer and bigger ones, Kreme Delite is a well-known place that many people frequent. You can't beat the prices here and they have the most amazing classic milkshakes, chili dogs, upside down banana splits (in cups), soft serve ice cream and cherry cokes. OK, so I was in Athens, Alabama and I was looking for a good place to get some ice cream. I looked on Yelp, and I saw a place called Kreme Delite. The name sounded pretty cheesey, but I tried it anyways. The first thing I noticed was that they looked kind of like a concession stand at a ball park. The next thing I saw was a menu full of different choices and flavors. I went with the basic chocolate in the cone, and it was the second best ice cream I have ever had (See my Handels review). I was recommended by one of my friends something on the menu they call blue goo. It looked really good, but I just wanted something basic. I gave this a 5 star rating for the speed, the compact, good, look, the workers, and most importantly, the ice cream. read more

Really bad experiences the last two visits, ordered a hot fudge sundae and was given a cup of melted ice cream and then no nuts or a cherry. Kindly asked for those and told it would be an extra $2.39. Who in their right mind charges that for toppings that are supposed to be on there to begin with?! Visiting my brother from out of state and decided we must got try this first night. The line for service was very long but I was told it was worth it. While waiting a biker and a man tried to walk up to order, but as the sign clearly says drive up only!!! Once we got to the window it was fairly fast service. I have to agree with everyone else that has reviewed this place. I remember eating burgers and having milkshakes when I was a child and nothing has really changed about this place. It's nostalgia at it's finest. The ice cream, burgers and shakes are worth the 45 minute drive to Athens from Tennessee. My aunt & uncle lived in Athens during the mid to late 60's and my mom would stay with her often. Being a 14 year old, hanging out with friends and having a good time at this place was the thing to do. The food and picnic table seating is still the same today. This is a little piece of Athens grub history that needs an in-person visit to experience it yourself. read more

The prices are awesome and it seems like they kept them from past. From what I remember, the price for a small cone is $1.50. But a small is plenty of ice cream to eat. This place a real piece of history. Ordering outside at the window and eating your food at the picnic table nearby really makes you wonder what it was like back in the day. All the people coming and going just as you did, enjoying simple foods with family and friends. The service and prices are really good. And the food is great. It's classic hotdogs, hamburgers, shakes, and malts!! If you're in the area or want to take a drive and want a taste of history, then you should stop here!
