We chose vanilla, strawberry, red velvet, and confetti, decorated with edible glitter and pearls. They looked beautiful and tasted even better. When I needed to change my pickup time, the staff was incredibly kind and accommodating. Because I picked up the cupcakes the day before the event, they carefully wrapped them to preserve their freshness and gave me clear instructions for storing them overnight. The cupcakes were a ginormous hit! Everyone raved about how delicious they were, and several people asked where I had purchased them and how to find the bakery. I was told that their baked goods are made from scratch, and you can certainly tell from the wonderful taste and texture. I highly recommend Buttercream Bakery and will definitely order from them again!

I ordered a red velvet graduation cake from Buttercream Bakery in San Antonio for my nephew's…read moregraduation celebration. The cake was beautifully decorated and looked exactly like something you'd be excited to serve at a special event. Unfortunately, the taste was a completely different story. When the cake was cut, the red velvet layers appeared discolored and uneven in color, with some sections looking dull and brownish rather than the rich red color you would expect. The cake itself had an off flavor that was difficult to ignore, lacking the classic mild cocoa and tangy notes of red velvet. It was not velvety at all. It tasted OVERLY salty and left an unpleasant aftertaste. The frosting looked fine and had a smooth texture, but it was also noticeably salty and did not have the creamy, slightly tangy flavor typically associated with cream cheese frosting. Multiple guests commented on the SALTY flavor, and several people did not finish their slices. One thing I've always appreciated about Gordon Ramsay's approach to food is his reminder that presentation means very little if the food doesn't taste good. A chef or baker should taste what they're serving. A beautiful cake can impress people for a moment, but flavor is what people remember. Graduation is a once-in-a-lifetime milestone, and I was disappointed that the cake became a topic of conversation for the wrong reasons. The appearance was excellent, but the taste did not meet expectations. I hope Buttercream Bakery takes this feedback seriously and places as much emphasis on flavor as they do on presentation. I paid over $200 for this cake. They offered me an e-gift card of $100. I don't live in San Antonio. I could give it away to my family here, but I made the payment!

Then cupcakes for our daughter's Sweet 16. Lastly a cake for my 40th (I know I'm so young, lol). All the cakes were made with precision and full of flavor. With the Ninjago cake it was a 3-level cake, all levels were edible. Everything on the cake was edible! EVERYTHING. You will see the sword and ninja stars, bamboo and eyes. Wow. Yeah it was great. And for my 40th cake we didn't need all the levels to be edible so we only made the last level a "cake". But everything on it you can eat. The handicap sign, teeth, glasses and prescription. Lol if you look close the prescription has my name on it. Hahahaha great details. Lastly the cupcakes! Simply said....excellent and elegant. One dozen were unicorns and the others flowers. Wow so beautiful and amazing. My daughter shed a tear or two. So if you are looking for.....oh the flavors. Lol. Yes yes the flavors of everything was PERFECT. So if you are looking for cakes or cupcakes for any event or occasion this place is a MUST GO.

They matched perfectly with Mila's Coffee. Much to my surprise, Cake Thieves had a brick and mortar bakery over on the east side of the city! I dropped by to check it out and I was very pleased to see a robust vegan menu. Vegan bakeries are few and far in between, and as someone who is NOT vegan, but appreciates the vegan culinary arts, I was very excited to see a full pastry case. I ordered the cortado, butterfly pea flower latte, a jalapeño cheese kolache, and a creme brûlée donut. The cortado was more of a cappuccino in terms of size/volume but I still enjoyed it. The butterfly pea flower latte had vanilla in it, and the oat milk yielded a delightfully creamy drink that I would absolutely make the drive for again. The kolache was good. The croissant dough was buttery and flakey (amazing what vegan butter can do nowadays!), but the sausage was missing that decisive "snap" texture when you bite into it. Oh well, it was still a very good breakfast treat. I took the donut home and had it a few hours later. I loved how crispy/crunchy the bruleed/caramelized top was! The donut itself was fluffy and the filling was nice and sweet. The staff? Amazing. Shout out to Eli (spelling?) for making the entire experience just truly magnificent.
