My husband and I chose to have our groom's cake done by Cake Art for our wedding on 5/01/16. The place that made our wedding cake couldn't pull off the design that we had our heart set on so we had to search for a place that could come through for us. I remembered sampling the cake from Cake Art at the bridal extravaganza, it was delicious to the point where it made an impression on me so it was the first place that came to my mind. When we had our initial consultation with one of the cake decorators they were extremely confident in their ability to pull off the electric guitar design. I printed out some photos from Pinterest to show them the style that we wanted. At that time they didn't have any photos of past work with that particular design. Their other themed cakes were impressive so I felt confident in trusting them with our groom's cake. We went with the churro flavor cake (the groom doesn't like chocolate cake) with strawberry filling. The cake was moist and delicious!!! The design of the cake was awesome! They did a great job of making it look close to realistic. We received so many compliments on the Groom's Cake. They had a cute baby in the back of the house. No greet, no nada. The lady helping, she just said, "only one?" I said "yes." She said, "you need a fork"? I said, "no thank you, just a napkin please." Idk if she gave me yesterday's or what. Nicely packaged. The vanilla cupcake was decent, but nada to write home about. Vanilla buttercream was gritty. Probably American Buttercream, which is ok but this one wasn't to my liking; maybe plenty others. Alas, I ate only a pinch or two of the cupcake and none of the frosting. Clean, cute shop. My Daughters Birthday cake was a Shocker. When I Picked the cake up I was in a hurry and trusted that it looked good so I did not check the cake. (I should've) My Daughters name was spelt wrong even after I spelt it out to the lady multiple times. I would give them negative 5*s if I could for ruining the most beautiful event of my life. My little one was turning one and being new to town, it seemed like SA was seriously lacking business choices for beautiful cake designs. Being from LA, we have been so blessed to have DOZENS of very trusted bakers to do gorgeous designs. Unfortunately many of the designers I got a hold of were booked for that day and cake art was the only option for me at the time. I went in and spoke with Samantha who was very nice and quick to give me a quote for the images I showed her. 5 cake pops. 10 cookies. And what eventually became 3 tiered cake. I am not a fan of blazing sugar in my desserts so I can't even say I liked their flavors , but I did purchase their cupcakes to sample the flavors as they had no sampling options. Quoting me close to $400, I agreed and supplied my images. On the day of the event, I was in the area at 1110 am , when the original noted pickup time was 12pm. Naturally I called them to see if I can pickup at that time since I was less than a minute away from their plaza. The lady who answered went crazy on me saying that the person working on my cake had just arrived and that it would take at least 45 minutes to finish the cake. While it could have been handled in a much more courteous way, I was fine with that since I did after all agree to a noon pickup. An hour after my husband brought the cake home. The cake was smashed on multiple sides and looked NOTHING like the beautiful images I had found for this cake (from one of my bakers in Cali). The cookies I had ordered , which cost $4, were completely smeared and looked like the work of a 3 year old. My cake pops were ABSOLUTELY nowhere near the appearance of the images I had Shown and were so heavy that they could not even stay balanced on my cake pop stand I had purchased (not to mention that they placed it upside down). The minute we set the cake on the table, the elephants on the cake lost their ears and became completely disfigured. As for the flavors of the samples (I was too angry and disgusted to even try anything on the day of the event so I can only attest from my tasting of the cupcakes I had purchased): I am seriously struggling to figure out how and why this place won the cupcake challenge. The flavors were ok but nothing out of the ordinary. Definitely too sweet for my tastebuds and just tolerable for my sweet crazy hubby. The whole experience was such an utter disappointment that it ruined the whole party for me to enjoy my little one. If San Antonio somehow no longer has ANY bakeries left, I would still try baking a cake myself before giving this busy any future business. Run the other way! read more

Cake was good, service not so much. Only reason we continued with the purchase was because of time restraint. When asked if we wanted anything on top we said a #12 for the birthday girl and this is what we got. I went 30 minutes before they closed and found a great selection of different sized cakes in their ready-to-go section. They had 1 strawberry cake left with a blue and white design. I asked them to "make it girly" and the gentleman who helped me took his time adding pink, purple, and two different colors of edible glitter. Let me start by saying that this cake shop is designed for impulse buying in that there are lots of confectionaries to choose from such as cute sugar cookies, cake pops, cupcakes, macarons, etc. with unique and appetizing flavors such as oatmeal cherry cookies, raspberry swirl and salted caramel cupcakes. I spent little more than $25 at this bakery this afternoon trying a variety of their offerings and, honestly, I wouldn't visit again. Their cupcakes (I tried a lemon, a raspberry swirl, and a pineapple coconut) were very dry and the frostings overwhelmed the delicate flavor of the cakes. The macarons were colorful and flavorful but over baked and very crunchy. The cute little Hello Kitty sugar cookies, while adorable, was also very crunchy and dry. The only real highlight was their oatmeal cherry cookies which were soft, buttery, and tasty. I kind of wish I'd have just spent a couple of bucks ($1 each) for a couple of the oatmeal cherry cookies and had foregone the other purchases. Mom and I are always on the hunt for a good slice of cake. However, the cakes we got were ok but that's just it. When you walk in, there is a refrigerator area of whole cakes, parfaits, and cake slices. The main counter is loaded with lots of different cupcakes, along with cookies, pies, and other pastries. We opted for the strawberry cake slices, a Boston Creme Pie, and an oatmeal cherry cookie. The strawberry cake tasted good with a strawberry jam and creamy marshmallowy type of filling. The only issue was that it was very dry. Later on in the evening, we tasted the BCP and that too was a bit dry. Mom hasn't tried the cookie yet. We plan to give this place another chance by trying out their sugar cookies and cupcakes. They do have great customer service and their cakes are decorated beautifully.
