When I first called to inquire about classes for myself and my daughter, the staff was very polite and helpful. I explained that while I wanted to enroll my daughter, I needed to wait to participate myself as I was recovering from a broken arm. The staff member, Allie, suggested that I could still train using my uninjured side, which seemed a bit concerning given my injury.
After getting clearance from my doctor, I decided to try a trial class with my daughter. While the lesson offered some valuable positive reinforcement and instruction, I immediately realized during the partner drills that it was too physically demanding for my condition, even with caution. There's also a safety concern, as many participants were not properly taught how to hold pads or position themselves, which led to unnecessary hits to the chin and shoulder soreness. Using punching bags or dummies would be a safer and more controlled option.
Another issue was the facility's cleanliness. The space smelled strongly of body odor, and it seemed that not all staff members prioritized wearing deodorant, which made the environment less inviting.
The biggest drawback, however, was the outdated sales approach. After the lesson, Allie took us into a back office, shut the door, and went over pricing. While I appreciate the time spent explaining their offerings, my husband and I felt uncomfortable with the high-pressure tactics. Despite clearly stating that we needed time to think it over, she became pushy and even tried to involve our six-year-old in the discussion in an attempt to guilt us into signing up that day. This left a very bad impression.
Allie followed up with a couple of calls, but I quickly realized the pricing was inconsistent and lacked transparency, which made me lose trust in the process. Ultimately, I chose another facility, Mark Pinner, because they offered clear pricing, after-school pickup services, and a clean, welcoming environment.
I would recommend this Krav Maga facility take steps to improve its sales techniques, prioritize transparency, and address hygiene and safety concerns. While the lessons themselves have potential, these issues make it difficult to recommend this location as it currently operates. read more
