Known for pumping out professional and amateur Thai boxers, Tampa Muay Thai has expanded its curriculum to meet my physical fitness needs in an innovative and hip environment. When you walk into the gym, you begin to grasp why "muay Thai is life". Most people, even fight fans, have no clue why dudes wear short silk shorts and girls exhale loudly when they kick. And then the trainers (almost all with funny accents) get down to business and actually train. They blend Thai culture with a little (less literal) ass kicking. After a few sessions and even more tweaks to technique, you realize shorts aid in agility and breathing heavily elevates power. But it's not just the trainers' expertise that sells me on this place - it's mostly the culture. With members ranging in gender, race, nationality, size, and socioeconomic class, TMT brings everyone with different training aspirations together cohesively through different avenues of Muay Thai training. From the strength and conditioning to dirty boxing or sparring classes, the trainers at Tampa muay Thai fulfill the needs of anyone with any inkling toward fighting or general physical fitness. I couldn't give this place enough stars for the culture, expertise, and results.

With all that I was told last year by my physician that I would need a life changing surgery, and full transparency it scared me, especially when I was told about post operation recovery (I would be down hard). I'm not much for sharing, but I entrusted Danny Pacheco (gym owner) & Coach Keith Moore (personal trainer) with this devastating news and they put me on an 8-week health challenge focused on my post operation recovery and worked me until I hit the operating table. Day one out of surgery I was required to walk one lap around the hospital floor, later that evening I was walking 2 multiple times, and day 3 I averaged 3 laps every 2 hours. I was told I would need someone to assist me physically with day-to-day effects, which was not the case since physically I was able to care for myself and still not sure why, but I never needed to finish the pain medication. Every time I go into the gym, I'm greeted with a warm and friendly smile, and even in one case Coach Hugh and Coach Marissa came up and asked me to pray one day unprompted and without knowledge of what I was going through (I needed it). Sorry if this was long winded, but I don't write many reviews but could not keep quiet about this GEM of a GYM, today marks one week out of surgery and though I still have a road to recovery I have more independence than I was told I would have, even able to walk around the block, there is something special about this place. Sincerely

Coach Rich and I had a little run in recently while I was on vacation in the Tampa Bay Area. I have to admit that I was the agitated party in this incident. Coach Rich deescalated the situation professionally, calmly and more importantly to me respectfully. After this quick interaction with Coach Rich I felt the need to write this review to showcase his character as not only a business owner but as a mentor to his students. We talked like family after we sorted everything out. We shared some ideology about coaching, about our views on combat sports and their positive impact on today's youth. There are a lot of Coaches that talk the talk but not that many that walk the walk. Coach Rich is a fine example of someone you would want mentoring your young athlete. Team Sports are not for everyone and they don't always bring out the best in people. I just read an article about a Coach punching an umpire in the mouth, not a good look for little league. Combat Sports are humbling for all participants, it teaches self-control, hard work but most importantly respect. Respect for yourself, your teammates, your school and more importantly your opponent. Coach Rich's foundation is a traditional Chinese Martial Art (Sanda), Reinforced with Various Striking and Grappling. I'm very confident in my abilities to defend myself in and out of the ring but its very humbling to know someone with Coach Rich's background choose to use his words to deescalate and resolve a situation rather than his fists. Not saying he would choose his fists but he could if he wanted to. Not only was he a fine representative for his business but also a fine example for his students. Check out his website for a full list of programs but the one that stood out to me was the Anti-Bully one. I feel everyone kid/child should sign up for one of these. With this review I wanted to say thank you to him and his family. And to showcase his character outside the ring for being a fine example of someone you would want your kid/teen to be mentored by. If you guys are in the Tampa Bay Area looking for a place to train/exercise or maybe get your kids off the internet or video game give Coach Rich and his team at the Fight Team Gym your consideration. Tell him Sean Flac sent you!
