Please note, very excited now because of the friendly responses! As I walked in I was given a friendly welcome by Alex, who was also the instructor. I'm always early to things just to make sure I am able to get the lay of the land. He showed me around, got me a T-shirt and belt and showed me how to tie it! He introduced me to a black belt that also took the class and went back to take care of another newbie! When the time for class came, Alex started us off with the instructions for starting classes and entering the dojo (is that right? I'm still too new). He then got us warmed up. We ended with the two of us newbies, a yellow belt and I think the other two awesome and patient ladies were both black belts! All ladies even though it was a coed adult class! BONUS for us! Maybe not for Alex, but he seemed to love it! We learned some new stuff and even played a game of tag switching opponents. He made the whole class so much fun, that there's zero doubt in my mind about whether I'm going to sign up permanently. I'll also probably sign up my 3 year old when he frees up to do it as well! We were in town and stopped by to see one of our grandson's classes here. We had heard how much…read morehe's been enjoying them. There's a nice, small area with chairs on the other side of a windowed wall where parents and friends can sit and observe. The children's class we saw was about an hour long. They also offer teen and adult classes, too. We saw a classmate achieve another belt level -- and what he went through. It gave us an idea of what our grandson had to do to achieve his various colored belts and stripes. It was so nice to see the discipline of everyone; the respect given to the teachers. And the range of ages in the class. As others have said, these classes are not only for discipline and strength training, but also for building confidence. The students are well disciplined and respectful to the facility and each other. This evening's exercises were abbreviated due to one student's graduation session and moving up one belt. One can see the maturity and development guided by the Sensei working on the mats with them. Lots of proud parents!
