Whenever our relatives come downstate to visit us, they always bring a box of these wonderful chocolates. There is a huge selection to choose from, and you can really tell that they were handmade with love. The chocolate itself tastes high quality, both milk and dark. I find it cute that they have their own little handbook deciphering each piece of chocolate based on different patterns/shapes/wrappers/etc, but it can be a bit confusing. But nevertheless, they are some of my favorite chocolates bar none! read more

I have come back here twice just to buy their salted caramel chocolates; and I don't even like chocolate that much! Seriously, one night I drove 40 minutes out of my way just to so I could get two boxes of them. They lasted 2 days. I'm a HUGE fan! I'm sure they have other things I would like, but this is what I have consistently gone back for. They also have cute little boxes and gift sets that look very kid friendly. Great little chocolate shop. There selection is always changing, you can grab a bag of pre packaged and weighed out candies like dark chocolate covered almonds or peanut brittle or you can pick out a few different options and create your own gift box or samples. They always have festive little things for the different seasons and holidays which make nice gifts. The prices are reasonable but some things seemed a bit too pricey (chocolate covered raisins 5$ for 1/4 lb.). Cute little shop though, glad I went in! read more

The best chocolates ever! Check out this local legend. They make great shapes and do sugar free and organic and every kind of old world chocolate you can imagine. Very cool for grabbing a last minute gift. They've got dishes and canisters and wild large shaped chocolates. We had chocolates for our wedding made there with logoed labels etc. very cool. read more

I've gotten chocolate here many times, always finding it simply mediocre. They do not make the chocolate themsleves; rather they order it wholesale, melt it down, then create the individual chocolates. read more

In saugerties, not a huge fan of sweet, but I always make exception for Krause candy. Every Time I went there, it make me feel like home and I always can buy a few gift boxes of candy or chocolates for my dear friends. A must visit if you ever come to Saugerties. read more

There is nothing finer than Krause's chocolates! It is a must stop on every trip to NY and several of my friends expect "gifts" when I return to TN. Needless to say the candy basket I put together for a silent auction went for $$$ and most of the candy was eaten before the winners got to the parking lot! They just kept repeating " this is the best candy ever!". So, now they expect a box on this trip!! read more

Without a doubt, terrific chocolate. My only complaint is a lack kf consistency in the fillings. Sometimes it js done perfectly - soft, smooth, creamy with that crunchy chocolate shell. But, sometimes, especially the mint cremes, the cream js pasty and firm (like a peppermint patty) - no where near as enjoyable and the problem is you don't know which yoh are getting until you get home and eat one. I highly recommend Krause's Candy, not only because their chocolates are absolutely fabulous, but their customer service is outstanding. I met with Caleb to arrange favors for a bridal shower. I was late is placing my order and he worked with the printer to ensure that my order was able to be completed. He was very professional. He was also patient in answering all of my questions and flexible on the changes I wanted to make. The engraved candy boxes look beautiful and were ready for pick-up early. I know my guests will love them! Also, the other staff are always very friendly and offer a sample if you are unsure of something. It's always a treat to stop by their store! read more

(Note: This review is of the recently opened New Paltz store, but the candies are made in Saugerties and delivered daily to the new locations.) I think the people who rave about Krause's do so because it's a sentimental favorite. I can understand that. Mine is Gertrude Hawk. But this chocolate is simply....not very good. The fillings, such as the lemon cream, are knock-you-over-the-head ham handed. There's only one note in the chocolate, there's no depth to it. It strikes that note and keeps on hammering it over and over again. I got a 1/2 lb box and had three selections from it. I think the rest is going in the trash. Just an FYI, the store may have a ramp, but that doesn't make it wheelchair accessible. Then again, the entire street is a nightmare for anyone who isn't bipedal. The merchants likely make their money off the college kids and their parents and just don't care about any other demographic. read more

My mom got me some goodies from here for Valentines day. She got me CHOCOLATE COVERED VANILLA WAFERS. Can we say amazing? Both the dark and milk chocolate ones were amazing. I wish I had more. Also some chocolate covered pretzel pieces and a chocolate pop. I don't know what the prices are on things here but I will be stopping in on my own for some more of those chocolate covered vanilla wafers. read more

Delicious chocolates. This place is always packed. My favorite item of theirs is the peanut butter melt away. Recently, I've had their brownie bites and their chocolate covered matzos. Both were delicious. I'm thinking of getting some of their chocolate strawberries for Mothers Day. read more

First time I tried Krause's was when I went with my girlfriend to her hometown of Saugerties. We both moved from NY to California. On occasion I order a good amount of chocolate from here. Mostly in the winter time because I dont want to pay the 10 bucks for the special warm weather packaging lol. I love everything about this place. The chocolate is so rich and delicious. i am a superfan. If ever im in Saugerties again, I'm going to stop by this place and pick myself up some treats lol. read more

Killer chocolates and unique specialty items, (such as peeps dipped in chocolate which are disgustingly decadent and great), plus good ice cream and other candies. I give it a 4 because service can sometimes come with an attitude/needs improvement at times. GREAT chocolate! read more

My husband brings me chocolate from Paris and Brussels but Krause's is better. Keep up the good work!

I called six weeks prior to an event to inquire if they could make favors in a particular shape in white chocolate for a date in July. She checked their molds, confirmed that they had 2 sizes, and gave me approximate prices. I told her that I would call with a final count in a few weeks. I called back to place the order and had to wait for a particular person to call me back. I missed her phone call and she left a rather curt and edgy message that she could not give me a price because they were sold by weight and she wouldn't know until they were done. I returned the call and addressed with her that I did not even talk money with the girl that answered the phone. I should have followed my instincts and not placed the order, but I went ahead and gave them my business. Or at least I tried to give them my business. And my credit card number in order to place order, even though I would pay cash. Two days later I received a message to call them back regarding my order. When I did, she said that they had only one mold and couldn't do the order in white chocolate. They could only do it in dark or milk chocolate. Not sure what the type of chocolate had to do with it but canceled. While they may have a great reputation for individual sales, their service is sub-par regarding customized orders. read more
