The fresh seafood selection is huge - all local and regional, plus some Louisiana gems! I chose to eat fresh fried seafood, similar to what we call a "seafood platter". Today, 6/4/2025, I got a platter of 3 pieces of FRESH flounder, 6 or 8 oysters, about 1/3 pound of small shrimp, fried okra, boiled potatoes, hush puppies, and a refillable fountain drink... all fried to perfection! FOR $20, including tax!!!! This fry is perfect "American style". I did need hot sauce because we astoundingly season everything in Louisiana. Staff and customers were super friendly, especially, the sweet lady who moved to Raleigh from New Orleans. (She knew my name was "Baby"... LOL!!!) The family that owns this place and their employees are super nice. I ate my lunch with two of the fish guys. I'd eat here every day if I lived in Raleigh!

Review on May 11, 2026: 3 stars…read more I visited this restaurant today with my parents because we felt like having some good seafood, and we have had good seafood at this restaurant before. The cashier was professional and took our order quickly. This was an order to go. After I received my receipt for using a credit card including the receipt with the itemized order, I realized there was a discrepancy on the total amount of my order versus what was charged to my credit card. There was a 3.5% difference. I questioned the cashier regarding this discrepancy, and she then pointed to a note that was stuck on the plastic shield in front of the cash register area. Apparently, if you use a credit card for your purchase, there's an extra 3.5% charge but if you use cash, you don't have that charge. I didn't make any extra fuss about it only because I needed to get my parents home; however, I was not at all happy with not being told this upfront. At the very least, this note on that plastic shield could have been pointed out for me to review before placing my order. I should not have had to find out about it after questioning a discrepancy to then be shown a note on a plastic shield. When you are at a fast food restaurant, you don't arbitrarily read stuff that's sticking on plastic shields or anywhere else for that matter. It should be up to the cashier to make mention about any changes to their policies or practices. As far as I am concerned, this is a very shady practice. I rated this restaurant with three stars and not lower because the food was good. The shrimps were cooked perfectly, and the buffalo sauce was fabulous! I always enjoy their hush puppies. The rice was okay. My parents enjoyed their grilled flounder and grilled bone-in pork chops. The portion sizes for all meals were a bit smaller than expected though. I don't like feeling like I was deceived or taken advantaged of. Not having that 3.5% highlighted to me at the time of my order feels very deceitful. I left feeling like I was taken advantage of. Not sure when/if I will return to this restaurant.

Holy Grilled Catfish!!! As a Florida Girl I have eaten a…read moreton of seafood growing up and can be picky about fish restaurants. This was my 1st time driving to Garner on my way to the new VA Clinic for a fasting lab. As I turned onto Benson Road I couldn't help but notice the Carolina Fish Fry sign written in friendly letters almost welcoming me to stop in and have a bite. I KNEW I would be stopping here on the way back home to Raleigh. And I did. Just after noon and not having eaten since 9pm the previous day I was READY for some chow! As I got out of my car I noticed a Greek themed food truck parked outside. They have a partnership with the restaurant to use their kitchen to make the meals that are very good according to staff. It was closed when I arrived. But I was there for seafood. It was CALLING to me! As I approached the door I noticed the beach vibes and decor on the outside and inside of the restaurant. The menu has a lot of different types of fish and offers both grilled and fried options. I was little overwhelmed by the choices as I love all seafood. I asked the woman behind the counter what she would recommend. We must be kindred spirits because she recommended the catfish. I remembered that a fellow veteran I met that day while waiting in the fasting lab mentioned they go here "for the catfish." At first I was looking at the flounder. See, my Mom makes The BEST stuffed flounder in the WORLD. So, whenever flounder is on the menu, I have to go there. But, I can't turn down a good catfish. Uncle Hershel is a friend of mine. If you know, you know. I was given the choice of a basket? Or a platter. The player I believe had FIVE?! Pieces of fish plus sides. Now, I had been fasting, but I was pretty sure I could not eat FIVE pieces of fish. So I went for the smaller serving of three plus it came with three sides. The bottom three sides on the sides menu attached to the order window are premium sides with a $1.50 up charge. One of those is the fried okra; something I can't resist having grown up in the south. I got the grilled catfish. It was a hard choice as I really wanted fried, but trying to be healthier as I recently lost 6lbs. Plus, I got those fried hush puppies, fried okra and some healthy and OMG delicious best I ever had in the WORLD collard greens. In fact, my fork dove into the collards first. I couldn't stop eating them. I could taste the subtle hint of vinegar pepper sauce. But it wasn't spicy and didn't burn my mouth. I could eat an entire bowl of those collard greens. I don't normally make audible yummy sounds when eating in public. But, if you were sat nearby yesterday afternoon you would have heard me go "mmmm" with every bite. I'm not a religious person, but this was a "come to Jesus moment." I mean, these collard greens alone are a religious experience. You have to try them. Most places you go collard greens are over cooked. Not these. They kept their deep green color and tender but not cooked to death consistency. Tartar sauce and cocktail sauce is offered with the fish dishes. The tartar sauce tastes like it's homemade. Really good. I was dipping all sorts of things in the tartar sauce that I never did before it was that good. Oh no! I had an extra tartar sauce I brought home in my backpack that I JUST now realized I never put in the fridge. OOPS! Anyway, time for me to post some of the pics I snapped after my incredible meal washed down with pink lemonade. Free refills on drinks by the way. Super casual laid back vibe with Jimmy Buffet music playing in the background.

It does tend to get busy, so you may have a little wait for your food, but it's definitely worth it. The shrimp Rasta pasta was creamy, flavorful, and had the perfect amount of spice, plus they give a generous portion of shrimp. We sat outside this day, as the weather was mild and there wasn't any available seats inside. We ordered a fried combo and a grilled combo. TrySeafood does a lot of things right. Portion size was fairly generous. We especially love the fact they serve cleaned jumbo shrimp. Food was cooked well, shrimp was tender as was scallops. The broccoli was not tender crisp nor mushy. The potatoes and corn were delicious. While service was friendly, it was a bit slow. Also, I'm not an Old Bay fan. The grilled shrimp were seasoned with Old Bay. While the fish was crispy, I prefer a cornmeal dredge to a flour dredge. Finally, (and this could have been a me thing) the tip percentage on the screen doesn't align with the math. I intended to tip 15% - which is standard especially considering slow service. That should have been approx $8 and when I got home I realized it was approximately $16. You're not given a printed receipt and if you're in a rush and going through the process quickly it's easy to miss. Again I may have missed something, but I'm pretty sure I selected the %15 option. Additionally, I've seen other restaurants that have intentionally include this practice. Would I go again, sure. I'd request a different seasoning blend or a light seasoning and check that math! We made reservations ahead of time online since it was a Holiday. First off the front staff was super friendly and got us to our table right away. Love the feel and the decor. The lighting was a tad dark but that's ok. It was still cozy and romantic. Our waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable. They had a special Valentine's Day menu. She ran down the specials by memory. She took our drink and appetizer order ( the calamari fritti) gave us time to check out the rest of the expansive menu. The drinks came and our app. The lemonades were very sweet and nicely tart from the real fruit purée and lemons. Delightful! The calamari fritti was a knock out, home run. The breading was delicious. The calamari was nice and tender. The marinara was so good. Get this is you like calamari! The sea bass Valentine's Day menu special was cooked to perfection. So flaked and moist. Seared and seasoned perfectly. They should add it to the main menu. The risotto was amazing. Creamy and flavorful. The asparagus was cooked perfectly. The figure 8 stuffed flounder was delicious as well. The crab stuffing was absolutely great! The sauce over top was creamy and worked perfectly with the flounder and crab. It came with the most delicious fresh green beans with a couple nicely seasoned tomatoes. The rice pilaf was also really nice. Around this time I realized the Valentine's Day menu had Oysters Rockefeller ... and I love oysters Rockefeller. So I put in for an order of those. Best oysters Rockefeller I've had in a long time! Add these to the menu! For dessert... we ordered the apple crumb at vanilla bean ice cream. Perfect way to end out meal. We cannot wait to come back and try the rest of the menu! Save us a table! Kudos to the staff and chef / cooks. Yall did an amazing job.

Nice atmosphere inside, but recommend reservations as they fill up quickly. The Deets: Some friends/coworkers and I decided to catch up over a meal and we decided on trying out this location of Cape Fear Seafood Co. on Lake Pine Drive. I had been to the one located in the Village District (formerly Cameron Village) of DTR in the past and knew of this one opening up through Yelp. If you know me, I am usually not one for seafood but remember I had a pretty good experience at the one in DTR. We noted that it would be a good idea to have a reservation so one was made. Good thing, this place gets crowded fast, even around the 5pm point. Upon arrival, we were promptly shown to a table with menus. While walking in, this restaurant has that beach type feeling with brightly painted areas and subtle pelagic decor without going overboard. The bar area gave a warm, inviting vibe. Back to the menu, their menu is pretty expansive but not over the top multiple pages. I think even the non-seafood lover can find something to like here. We started with hush puppies for the table and I went with the appetizer sized mini crab cakes for myself. I loved the mini crab cakes and the lemon beurre blanc sauce with them, just enough for a starter and tasted great. The hush puppies were good as well but just a tiny bit too brown for me, they were a little bit more done than I'd like. I like them more of a golden finish instead of brown, just my preference. For my main dish, I went with their Cape Fear Shrimp & Grits. They are a pretty popular choice here and I remember liking them at the DTR location. They remained a great choice, they were delicious. They are very flavorful and enjoyable without being spicy, which I like as I am non-spicy food person and it seems most everywhere does their shrimp & grits spicy. I find this take on them refreshing. I would have liked more cheese grits in the serving as it seems to be like a half serving, however the shrimp as well as the creamy sauce were plentiful. Service did a good job here, checking on us periodically. In all, I liked this experience here at Cape Fear Seafood Co. for the most part and would enjoy visiting again in the future.

We started with 3 dozen Daily Happy Oysters, which at $9 per half dozen. The Southern Salt oysters were incredibly briny. I don't mind a salty oyster, but these crossed into overwhelmingly salty territory and masked some of the nuanced flavors I usually look for. The snacks, however, were absolutely spot on. The Crawfish Hushpuppies arrived piping hot with a crisp exterior and tender center, loaded with crawfish flavor. The Crispy Frog Legs were equally impressive--perfectly fried, wonderfully seasoned with tom yum spice and vadouvan, and paired with a Vietnamese mayo that tied everything together beautifully. To wash it all down, we enjoyed a few beers, including a crisp pilsner, a refreshing wheat beer, and a local IPA that paired nicely with the oysters and fried snacks. Service deserves a special mention. The staff was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable without being overbearing. They kept the oyster trays moving and made sure drinks never sat empty for long. Overall, St. Roch delivers a fun oyster bar experience with happy hour pricing, creative snacks, and top-notch service. If the Southern Salt oysters had been a little more balanced, this would have easily been a 5-star visit.
