What a cool distillery / tasting room! I love that the ambience is classy but inviting, so you can come as you are. We sat at the bar and there was enough room for us to play a small board game we brought with us. The bartenders were super friendly and offered great service. We ordered some cocktails, and the spa day cocktail was so refreshing! We also did a tasting flight of their gin which was affordable and fun to try. For snacks they have a small curated selection. We tried the local style chips (giardiniera) and Lucila's Alfajores. I love alfajores (2 soft cookies sandwiched around what I believe is a dulce de leche caramel center) and this platter offered 4 different kinds, which was nice to share with my partner. Overall great down to earth and cool vibe, and they have a patio outside too!

Wow, had no idea how family friendly this place was. They had games and couches, kids played, we caught up with family and all had a great time. Self serve which was fine by us and while only having a few drinks, it was great!

The image depicts the interior of KOVAL Distillery in Chicago, showcasing large copper and stainless steel distillation stills and equipment. The space has a high, angled ceiling with skylights allowing natural light, and fluorescent lighting fixtures. An American flag hangs in the background, and the distillery's name is visible on the wall. The floor is concrete, and there are various tools and a small lift present, indicating an industrial, production environment.

We went on a tour and it was definitely worth it. We learned about the history of Koval and the process to distill various whiskies. We had the opportunity to see the distillery operations and taste 3 spirits. One was over 100 proof!!!! The tour is definitely worth it!

Very clean and modern space. The drinks are great and the bartenders were very friendly and helpful in picking the perfect drink for you. We've been for happy hour a few times - there's a couch area for a larger group and also an outdoor patio in the summer. They also have some games - Tappl and giant connect 4!! The happy hour deals are awesome and so worth. Def a team outing favorite!

Nice distillery in the heart of Ravenswood. The KOVAL began as the first distillery to open in Chicago since the mid-1800s. This tasting room is connected to an active distillery. I have been there twice and also purchased their spirits at Mariano's. On the last occasion, I tried the gin based cocktail: Let it linger. Very good. Overall, I have never had a bad experience here. They offer a lovely atmosphere for cocktails and conversations. The patio is enjoyable and couches are comfy. Come check out Koval for Happy Hour. You won't be disappointed. Shout out to them for having frozen drinks on tap. The frozen drinks are strong and delicious. Also cute gift shop to buy sample size spirits and liqueurs.

While walking in the area, we came across Koval. I was like like let's check them out! We did not do a tour on this visit, but I definitely would return for one. Service at the bar was excellent. (Also, I watch way too much bar rescue, but Jon Taffer would love their measurements, smiles, and accuracy of pours). I saw the bar tenders tasting some of their cocktails dispersing. The bees' knees seemed to be one of their popular ones. I prefer vodka, and theirs was very tasty. Some of their cocktails are able to be made without alcohol which is always a win. Street parking out front. Non parallel parking which is always a win!

Manhattan and old fashion - Two cocktails are positioned on a weathered white wooden table outdoors, one with a lemon peel garnish and the other with ice cubes. The background features a brick wall and a sidewalk, indicating an outdoor setting. The drinks are in clear glasses, with the one on the left containing a light-colored beverage and a lemon peel, and the one on the right containing a darker beverage with ice.

Stop by on a whim, and will never look back! Me and my friend had a great time here. Some of the best drinks we've had in a while. You can really taste the difference with their spirits. I had the Manhattan and it was very balanced and flavorful. You really taste the notes of the bourbon. My friend had the old-fashioned and it was just as good. Not overly sweet, but he did get the subtle notes of fruits and sugar. The space has indoor and outdoor seating, and is connected to their gift shop. The bartenders are great! Very attentive and able to work very efficiently with a rush.

Really really good drinks. I got the Trade Winds and it was strong but delicious. Love the vibe in there and they also host a monthly book swap!

Whiskey Flight - Two whiskey glasses filled with amber-colored spirits are positioned on a reflective table in an indoor setting. The background shows a spacious, well-lit area with modern decor, hanging lights, and potted plants, indicating a distillery or bar environment. A QR code and a wooden tray are also visible on the table.

Loved Koval. Popped in on a Saturday morning right when they opened. Really enjoyed the atmosphere of the space and was able to relax with my friends while trying a flight of whiskey. It was raining, so we couldn't take in the outdoor space, which looked pretty nice. Staff was attentive and informative and took care of our needs. After our flights, we tried a couple cocktails, which were very good. I would definitely visit again next time I'm in Chicago.

Assortment of cocktails - Six cocktails with ice cubes and lemon slices are placed on a glass table with a gold-colored frame. Two drinks have straws, one yellow and one white. A board game box labeled 'Ravensburger' is partially visible on the right side of the table. The background shows a textured gray carpet.

Came for the distillery tour, and stayed for the drinks and vibes! Tucked away in a little stretch of Ravenswood, it's a beautiful space with neutral colors and lots of natural light. The distillery tour was very enjoyable and happened next door to the bar/lounge section. Our guide seemed very knowledgeable and passionate about the story and products behind Koval. During the tour, we had the opportunity to sample 3-4 different spirits too which was helpful when it came to informing drink orders at the bar afterwards. I also appreciated the mocktail options for those who are spirit free drinkers! They tasted just as good as the alcoholic options. Overall, I had a great time at Koval! Would recommend! And yes, there is ample (and free) parking which is a huge plus!

    Cranberry spritz

Went about 5:45p before an artfair for a quick cocktail. Lots of choices, ordered at the bar and then waited just a couple of minutes for hand made cocktails. Place was lively , lots of people , noisy and happening. We had 4 drinks. First, the old fashion with bourbon. He said it was the best he had. Secondly " let it linger" gin, ginger liqueur, lime simple syrup. A little sweet nicely balanced. Thirdly, cranberry gin spritz, nice light summer drink. Lastly, " rosemary gimlet" was exactly what they wanted. Perfectly balanced, rosemary infused gin with lime. Would come back anytime, drinks , place and service was good.

Me and my friend had a great saturday night here sitting at the bar and playing garbage monsters(they have a few other games too)! The bartenders were so friendly and funny - the atmosphere was super laid back, not too crowded, and drinks were amazing. The let it linger I think is my favorite cocktail I have ever had.

The image shows a wooden table with multiple cocktails, including a dark coffee-colored drink with foam and coffee beans on top, and other drinks with ice and garnishes. A hand is holding a tall glass with a straw. In the background, a decorated Christmas tree with lights and ornaments is visible, along with a cozy seating area and framed artwork on the wall, indicating a festive indoor environment.

Review coming from a So-Cal boy looking for Westcoast IPA options! Not going to lie, Chicago does…read morenot have too many of these on their tap list. I tried two I really liked but the one I enjoyed the most was "Cuz of Juice". I think it was a 6.3% abv but the flavor was there. Usually Westcoast IPAs are a little heavier but it was a hit. They have a QR code at the table where you can order your beer/food but also have the option to order at the bar. It was Friday around lunchtime so it wasn't too packed but could tell the spot was getting full as we left. Parking is limited around the area but that's the issue all over Chicago. Reminds me of La problems. Haha. Didn't try the food but heard nothing but good things from my Chicago peeps. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying more of their tap list and food. Must visit when coming to Chicago looking forward good beer.

This is now one of my top favorite breweries in Chicago! The combination of the cozy pub ambience,…read moredelicious food, and excellent beer and alcohol selection makes Maplewood really stand out. Tucked away at the end of a small street, Maplewood appears unassuming. But when you step inside, the wooden ceiling features, string lights, brick walls, and cool artwork surrounding an intimate bar setting invite you in like a warm embrace after escaping the winter cold. When you sit down you can order via QR code which makes ordering with friends and splitting checks very convenient. Service is very efficient and friendly. I also appreciate the limited but intentionally crafted food menu. The Maplewood smashburger was juicy, savory, and the burger patty was perfectly browned and crisped without being dry. The sauce was delicious and had a nice kick. I shared the burger with my partner, along with cheese curds (incredible!!), and roasted honeynut squash. It was very filling and we ended up taking some cheese curds and squash home! The squash had depth of flavor and a great mix of textures with pistachios, pomegranate seeds, and I think feta cheese on top. The skin was crispy and overall it was tasty! The food paired perfectly with beer. I've had Maplewood beer from a can before but never on tap, so it was such a treat! I tried the Krispie Treats which delivered on the marshmallow vanilla flavor and sweetness. They have a big selection of beers, and they are also a distillery which means they offer cocktails! I love that they have something for everybody, including the friends who are more into cocktails than beer. I liked that utensils, trays, and takeout containers were self-serve and well-stocked. There's a variety of takeout containers to suit various types of food and portion sizes and they were high quality! I love when restaurants/bars offer the thick napkins--a marker of quality, and feels so luxurious! There are bathrooms for all genders, and they were clean, and had fun decor. And there's a small section of the brewery with merch for sale, like sweatshirts and beer glasses, so be sure to check those out! Can't wait to come back!
