We loved this spot - what a great alternative to the too-crowded bars and clubs in the area! We came here after the noise level was just too much at a nearby bar and our throats couldn't handle it from screaming (yes we are probably getting old). BUT this was a low key, neighborhood distillery with fantastic drinks and nice service. Drinks are delicious and I love that there's a range of prices for different kinds of cocktails. Their gin is fantastic - loved the bees knees. Will definitely be back. read more

3.5 stars. Always want to support these local spots trying to do great craft drinks. Had a whiskey neat (she had a draft cocktail), and while both were very drinkable and reasonably priced, they weren't what I'd expect from a craft distillery. Whiskey had average taste. Would love to see how they evolve in the future. read more

Came here to have a drink Friday Evening. We were just hanging around the area and dropped in here. The drinks were good. I tried a few cocktails on draft and settled in on the Bramble. My husband had the Sazerac and he enjoyed that one. Will be back as the music vibe was good. The bartenders were friendly and you could order food in the restaurant if desired. read more

Great happy hour specials and they have a few unique flavors of whiskey to try here. They have tastings which is great to explore the flavors. There are pay to parks available right in front, we didn't have any issue finding a spot (it was a Friday afternoon) but I feel we got lucky. There is also the blue lines too right down the street. The staff here were friendly and talkative on the product. It was a chill spot and glad we checked it out. They have tours here as well, which is always fun for a local or for entertaining out of town guests. read more

I've walked past this place to get to Emporium multiple times. I finally bit the bullet, and decided to try it out. Not really what I was expecting, but not necessarily in a bad way. The menu was smaller, which made it easy to choose. It is much more relaxed here than most distilleries. There seemed to be a lot of space, but with limited bar seating. I ordered a Bramble (gin and blackberry). I watched as the bartender carefully crafted my cocktail. A pretty color that reminds me of summer. I could not will my stomach to drink a second one, though. As I was looking at the backbar, I saw some chocolate vodka (?), which will be my go next time. This seems like the perfect place to go to kill some time. read more

Chicago Distilling Company just opened this week and the word is already out! My friend and I went around 430 on Saturday for some drinks and it was pretty full with a spattering of open seats at the bar. I walked past again around 11pm and it was completely packed full to the brim! Currently they have just 4 cocktail options, 2 using Ceres vodka and 2 using Shorty's white whiskey. All drinks were $8. I tried my friend's Old Fashioned and it was solid, plus had a Collins for myself. Absolutely loved the Collins! The scruffed up bartender was very nice and had his hands full serving up drinks left & right. They currently don't serve food and he said they are still trying to decide if they want to go the BYOfood route, have some of their own snacks or how they want to approach it however they don't have any sort of kitchen. Ambiance is pretty awesome. It's super chill and pretty cool being able to see straight into the distillery in the back. The space is big & open, I really liked the layout. Aside from many seats at the bar, they have large communal tables throughout. I asked about their tours and was told they're booked up for the next few weeks, but they can be booked on their website. The info checks out...I just booked my own tour for next month! Cost is $10 and includes tastings. Chicago Distilling Company is a fabulous addition to all that's coming onto Milwaukee Avenue in Logan Square. Their current offerings are great and I'm really looking forward to what they have in store and coming back often. read more

This is a terrific little tasting room/bar and distilling operation. For $10, you can take a very informative tour of the small operation. Jay really knew his stuff, and it was fascinating to learn about all the care that goes into making unique gin, vodka, single-malt whiskey, bourbon, rye and other spirits. The distillery is pretty tiny--just one room--but you get to learn quite a bit about the distilling process and taste a number of products. The front room is the tasting room, and it offers a variety of tasty drinks. Our group enjoyed the Mule, Sidecar, Old Fashioned and Gimlet. The room is spacious and with the large garage doors open, it's a great place to hang with friends and watch the Logan Square crowds on Milwaukee Ave. We were glad we visited and have become fans of the Chicago Distilling products. read more

My girlfriend and I came in here on 10/25/2018 and had a couple of drinks. I wanted to come here for some time based on some yelp reviews and she had come here once before (loved it). We had a blast and would definitely come back. Like a lot of bars in the area, there is a very cool/hip vibe you get from this place. The bar is very spacious and there is ample seating all through out the bar. There is a distillery on sight which rocks and at night the bar lights it up so you can see it. Bartenders are very friendly and knowledgeable. The cocktails here ROCK!!!!! They are homemade, handcrafted and the price is spot on. I got an old fashioned and was very impressed. I am a self admitted old fashioned snob and this hit all my benchmarks. Plus at $10 a drink, you really can't beat that price. They have plenty of other drinks (think gin and vodka awesomeness). There's also a kiosk up front to order food to be brought in. Don't wait, check them out, you'll enjoy it! read more

Stopped by at 4:15pm on a Saturday when their website, google, yelp, and their door said they were open. Took a $20 Uber to get here from our hotel to have a drink before our dinner reservation in the city. We stood at a locked glass door with two employees behind the bar ignoring us for about 5 minutes. When I knocked lightly and mouthed are you open one of them came to the door & cracked it opened to say "sorry we have a private tasting class tonight, we don't open until 5. Thanks for stopping by" and then closed the door and walked back to the bar. So frustrated and disappointed. I've had his place bookmarked for a long time and finally got there a few days ago. I had been so excited to check it out cause I love craft liquor and great cocktails. Plus, I was freshly off a fabulous visit to CH Distilling downtown and hoped to keep the momentum going. Unfortunately, this was mostly a fail for me. It was a weekday night so I suppose they really didn't expect many patrons. One bartender mixing cocktails for what I counted was a total of 30 people leads to long waits and high frustration. Even with seats at the bar we waited a long time. Too long. But once served, I was ready to try their blind tiger bourbon (I love good bourbon) and aSazerac. My wife opted for the Sidecar. Both cocktails were decent, not exceptional. My bourbon pour, however, was disappointing. It certainly reflects the harshness of being aged only 12 months. I'd say it's suitable for mixing but not savoring. Perhaps it's a function of them not distilling enough to start with that would allow aging. But I wouldn't recommend it. What redeemed the evening was when we were ready to cash out, the bartender offered us some samples of some of their limited production whiskeys intended to mimic some classic beer types like dunkel, stouts, porters. Interesting indeed. I encourage you to support this local business. But don't take your whiskey straight. And if only one bartender is working you might reconsider entirely. read more

Place wasn't bad. Went in for a few drinks and was overall pretty satisfied. Mule was good, not served in a copper mug though. Black Mahattan was solid, as were the negroni, and gimlet. Wowza, this quiet bar and distillery that's sandwiched between some much busier nightspots really impressed me. The usual Logan Square Friday night party might have been roaring outside, but inside, we found a bit of calm where our group could sit and chat with some amazing drinks in hand. Chicago Distilling is known for their bourbon, and what a great bourbon it is: I highly recommend trying it. They do, however, offer quite a few different craft-distilled spirits, all of which can be made into a host of expertly crafted cocktails. I loved my old fashioned, and even ended up bringing home a bottle of the bourbon they used to make it. What really impressed me were the bartenders, who spent some quality time walking us through their operation and letting us sample some of their various spirits. All in all, I highly recommend visiting Chicago Distilling, whether just for a cocktail or to sample all of the the amazing spirits they have to offer! read more

Kelly and I stopped in here one fall Sunday afternoon to taste the wares. Its definitely worth a visit. One of the owners was slumming as a barback and we had a very pleasant conversation with him about the distillery and its history. I had a gin martini and found it quite pleasurable. Kelly had a vodka gimlet and was similarly pleased. The gin and vodka were priced at about $27 a bottle, with a quality to match, so we purchased one of each. I had an old fashioned with their unaged whiskey, and it was about what you would expect for unaged whiskey - underwhelming. The whiskey was double the price of the gin, making it a doubly unappealing offer. Like most microdistillers, they can't compete on price or quality with the big boys in Kentucky. Rumor has it absinthe is in the works - I'd definitely be back for that. Glad to have them in the neighborhood. read more

Who needs more brewerieres? All I want in life are distilleries everywhere. Any reason to try a plethora of mixed cocktails is fine by me... but please don't give me another reason to have an IPA, I just don't want to! Good place to come in the afternoon, or even for happy hour, but not the best for the late night scene. They close a bit early and it's pretty quiet, but we still had a good time! read more

This place is so charming, mostly because of the owners that are there every night. You MUST get a tour (private tour is a minimum of 10 people) in order to understand this place the best. We seriously wanted to work at the distillery for free after hearing about Jay and Noelle's dream! There are only a few drinks on the menu, but they can make you other things. The specialty cocktail was extra good. Its nice to be a part of something great in the neighborhood! Check this place out, even if you are waiting for a table at the Radler or Revolution brewery! read more

Cool place! My friend had a deal through Gilt City for this place (basically like a Groupon). It included a tour of the back of the distillery and a tasting. The tour was about an hour long and was very informative. It went over the whole process on how they make their beer/spirits and how their process differs slightly from most distilleries. Our tour guide went over the history of the distillery and details regarding their "mom and pop" roots (they are a fairly new place, fyi). Towards the end of the tour, we got to try samples of 3 different drinks: -their white whiskey called "Shorty's." It was super good, but VERY strong..90% alcohol -their Vodka called "Ceres." It was just okay to me. Very strong again, but that's how it should be so no real complaints there. -their Gin, called "Finn's Gin." This one was not my cup of tea at all, but then again, I'm not really a gin drinker. She mentioned that it had things like orange peel and hibiscus in it, making it slightly different from most gins. At the end of the tour, we got to take home little kits to age our own whiskey at home. I believe that was included in the pre-purchased package deal. In the front of the distillery, near the bar area, they have items for sale such as mini-flasks with their whiskey, as well as t-shirts/stickers/keychains with their logo. It wasn't a huge place, but there was a good amount of people in the bar area when we arrived on a Saturday evening. The staff was friendly and knowledgeable. One thing I would note is that they do not sell food there, but they DO allow you to order in or bring your own food. I would probably come back to this place if I was in the area again. For a girl who loves a good gin & tonic, this place was right up my alley! The big tables make for a great spot to go with a big group. Really cool atmosphere, typical Logan Square vibe. As you would expect, I drank G&Ts all night, and the killer vodka led me to NOT have a hangover for the first time on a Sunday in quite. some. time. Only problem was that the waitress felt very strongly about not letting you pay for your own drinks as you go. This is located on Milwaukee Ave along a row of bars so it is definitely a nice place to bar hop! My friend suggested to go here because he likes getting their whiskey sours (Whiskey Rose I believe is the name for it on the menu). I shared one with a friend and I did not really like it while all my friends loved it. I am not a fan of sour alcoholic drink so that is probably why. We all enjoyed the music blasting at this bar. After walking past this place for years, I finally came in here over Memorial Day weekend for some cocktails. It's a large open space with a bar and a few long tables for communal seating. It's the kind of place where you can just hang out at and watch the world pass by, especially when the garage doors are open on a nice night and you can see the entire neighborhood walk by. Chicago Distilling makes their own booze so that's what they serve. What I thought was cool is that they have a few cocktails on tap. I particularly liked their Collins with vodka. They also had this one with blackberry and and another one with grapefruit. I'm forgetting both of those names but they were also good. Overall, it was a solid place to spend a Saturday night with some friends. Definitely want to come back and do the tour sometime but definitely will be back to have some more of the delicious cocktails. read more

Fourteen of us did this tour on Saturday. Was fascinating hearing about the process in how Chicago Distilling makes their whiskeys, vodkas and gins. J was a great tour guide and this tour was the height of the trip for our group. Oh, did I mention you get to taste all of the liquors during the tour? If you book a tour, stay after and enjoy some of the whiskeys or other liquors mixed into their signature cocktails. The distillery is spacious and open and just a cool vibe. read more

I booked a distillery tour and tasting here, and was really excited to visit CDC with my boyfriend for his birthday. We had a great time, and the spirits were incredible. Our tour guide Jonathan was super friendly, and very knowledgable about the process of distilling whiskey, bourbon, gin, and vodka. He walked us through the back room, explained the entire process for us, and answered all of our questions about their daily operations. It was very cool to learn about the business's growth and development! Following the tour we tasted two different malted whiskeys, and a gin. My boyfriend and I also tried some of their canned cocktails, which were actually my favorite. They make an awesome mule, and I loved the new grapefruit cocktail they're canning. We would definitely come back and visit again! The vibe in the bar is great, and the drinks are even better. No complaints :) read more

This was SUCH a fun tour. My group got there a little early so we had some drinks at the front bar, which were all great and pretty reasonably priced! Bramble was a favorite there. The tour was led by one of the founders and seriously this place has a cool story. The tour was super informative, showing you all the equipment and tanks and such, and they are very welcoming to questions. Then we got to the tasting and tbh some of my group was a little rowdy by this point but our guide was having fun with it so that was appreciated. I really liked most of what we tried and as someone who only drinks like beer or cocktails where you can't taste the alcohol, I was surprised. tip: vodka is vodka tho, so don't smell that one before you try it overall A+ def want to return! read more

Top notch neighborhood distillery! Came here with time to kill before a flight and tried to cocktails and spirits. When we came, they were limited to just the cocktails they had on the board and it was about 4 PM on a Monday. We were the only customers but Aaron made sure to take good care of us. They have a good array of spirits from whiskey to gin and vodka. Aaron tried to get us a tour while we were there but unfortunately the staff in the back was closing up the distillery for the day and only the tasting room/bar was open. Such a relaxed atmosphere, even if you don't drink you'd want to hang out in this very chill space. A liquor only establishment, you're welcome to bring your own food to pair with the bevy of liquors. I could see myself bringing in a cheese board or tacos and no one would care. They have a variety of options - shots, high balls, cocktails, etc. I ordered the gimlet which was divine, but be cautioned that these cocktails taste incredible and pack quite a punch. One drink was enough to get me through our whole time there. My counterparts in crime ordered the some sort of vodka lemonade and an absinthe/whiskey cocktail. Thumbs up all around for drinks under $10. I will definitely be coming back here when I venture to Logan, and think this is a really fantastic small business that is true to Chicago and the vibe our city gives off. read more

I do really love this place. To be honest, the bar is not the best to hang out in, but I'm picky and insane, who cares. This place is worth coming to because I believe they care about what they do. They serve only what they make on site. They only make whiskey, gin, rum, and vodka. (I think. I'm not even 100% they make rum.) But I love it. Not only can you only possibly order what they make, I have never been there when all options were available. What I mean by this is if you want a beer, GTFO. Also let's say you want gin. Well they might only have whiskey and vodka available. I mean, they only serve what they make and happen to have. If this sounds annoying to you, great, stay away. I love it. I think this place cares. Their cocktails are fucking delicious. I could put one down in a few gulps easy. They're like $10 / piece. A full bottle of booze is just under $30. So.... do yourself a favor and after you have a cocktail or two, get a bottle. Everything these days is craft and organic and special and farmer's market and whatever. I think a great place like this doesn't get enough credit. It's kind of all those things but it just seems legit to me. Nice place, nice people, great booze. read more

Went on a tour at Chicago Distillery with my fellow co-workers and we loved it. We all learned so much about distilling, barreling alcohol and tasting the goods! The owners took us around their distillery explaining the whole operation in great detail. I never knew there was so much involved with making hooch! They also explained what barrels they use, which is an important detail too. The tour guide then explained the wood types and aging tricks to great detail with the aging process and I learned so much. At the end we got to sample numerous bottles of their great liquor. My favorite was their Finn's Gin. It was flavorful with notes of juniper and other botanical hints. It is great! And you can buy a bottle on the way out. The tour was great, informative and fun. I'd suggest everyone to check it out, you'll learn so much. Definitely try the Finn's Gin, you'll love it! read more

I desperately want to give them 5 stars but I can't. I will start off and say that their drinks are AMAZING. They're sneaky little suckers. The true potency masked by quality and skill. The product? A drink that makes you say yummmm...but WTF, where is the alcohol?! Then two drinks in, you're self consciously walking to the restroom, assuring yourself that you're not sloppy when in actuality you're "that girl." The vibe is dark, industrial, casual, and just right. The prices definitely leave you yearning for more. $8-$11 for a cocktail?! Pocket change. And $7 for the special, please, pennies. The negatives. I wanted to throw a surprise birthday and wanted to reserve a table and drop off a cake. I had some important questions. Can I drop off a cake? Should I bring my own utensils? CAN I HAVE A TABLE?! But my questions were left unanswered because after about 10 calls in one day of unanswered calls and a message, I gave up. We took a chance and proceeded with our plans. We walked in on Saturday at about 9 pm. We were lucky that the place was empty and a long empty table awaited for the 12 people that would join us. We were assigned to one waitress who was nice but it was a forced nice. The smile to your face and an instant frown when she turned her back. No warmth. No sense of humor. No soul. This was uncomfortable for me because I had an arsenal of bad jokes. Aside of MY PERCEPTION of unfriendliness, what I really didn't like was the barks not to order from the bar to our friends that slowly trickled in. Another sore note was that she refused to accept multiple payments, restricting the bill to only one person. I'm a Californian. Maybe things just work a little differently out here. I would love to go back. This is a chill place for amazing drinks. read more

Stopped in here for drinks after a filling and satisfying dinner at the Radler. The place had very little personality. I know it's supposed to feel like a tasting room, like you are "one" with the process of distilling, the alcohol being center stage...but I felt so uncomfortable. There were a few shelves with bottles, some stark community hi -top tables and one large TV. It was so odd and empty feeling to me. Not welcoming, no identity, no warmth in the least in this place. Add that Logan Square now seems overrun by this younger, louder, drunk crowd from I don't know where...they were into this joint too. I was with 3 men and they didn't want to stay either. Funny, not every guy I know has the greatest aesthetic sensibility (please don't hate me for generalizing here), but these guys weren't feeling it either, so we up and left. I hate to post a review without sampling the drinks but if environment and crowd matter, I'd opt for other spots in town. And oh, I think I've learned to avoid Logan Square on weekends save, Longman and Eagle, Cole's and Lula. read more

I've pretty much given up on Taste of Chicago. In earlier days, you could "taste," for the first time, a variety of tidbits you'd never tried from restaurants where you'd never been. When did "The Taste" turn into huge heaps of fried food, turkey legs you could get at any renaissance fair in the country, or... Chicago dogs & pizza? Ah, but the taste of Chicago survives in places like Chicago Distilling Company. I had bookmarked it and forgotten about it until friends said to meet them there, and when I went inside, I realized what it was. It was that ode to craftsmanship that I had read about, if I might use a term I would normally save for a woodworker's furniture, rather than the shot of moonshine required after that rare hit of the tack hammer on his or her thumbnail. Ouch. There weren't many people there when we arrived a little after 8 pm on a Friday night. I had expected it to be packed with hipsters, but simply the thought that hipsters would be packing a place as early as 8 pm makes me decidedly un-hip, and especially undeserving of the "ster" designation. We didn't go for a tour; we just went for some solid advice and some solid liquids (no oxymoron intended). And then solid Sarah came into my life. Sarah reminded me a little of what a roller-skating carhop (hold the traditional uniform & give her a stylish summer dress) with a sassy repartee and a vast knowledge of how the menu is grown and prepared would be like, if drunk driving weren't dangerous and you could have cocktails in cars served by carhops at bars. While the menu is quite small, she knew just about everything about anything we asked about. And I'm a nerd; so that's a tall task. I had never known that white whiskey is whiskey that hasn't been aged. It appears to be to be at that awkward age, where it needs a mixer to tamper its unrefined, youthful enthusiasm. I'm a big fan of Old Fashioneds, and this one with their Shorty's white might have arched Donald Draper's eyebrows a bit with mild, tasteful, incredulity. I also tried the Finn Tini (Finn being the name of the gin). Also delicious, and luckily stirred rather than shaken. Didn't James Bond realize that gin can be "bruised" if shaken? I want my martini straight-up, not beaten up! Maybe it should be called Da Chicago Da-stilling Company. It is a taste of Chicago, and dis is da city of da Bears, after all. In any case, I'm looking forward to returning to dis still, as I never made it to the vodka. Any bar that has "riff-raff" inside that is their namesake for spiked raspberry lemonade is a summer party waiting to be tasted. read more

Came across this place while walking around Logan Square trying to find a place to grab a drink since Revolution Brewing was way too crowded. So happy I found this gem! First off, I loved the wooden interior and open space. I decided to sit at the bar because I enjoy watching bartenders make their little concoctions (in the non-creepiest way possible). They have a glass at the back wall of the bar, which allows you to see the distillery area. Chicago Distilling Company makes their own vodka, white whiskey, and gin. They have a pretty extensive menu with specialty cocktails that all sounded delicious. I tried their take on Gin & Juice, the Smashley, Finn & Tonic, and Shorty's Old Fashioned. Gin & Juice - Finn's Gin, Cucumber, Strawberry, & Mint. I loved this drink. It was very refreshing with the strawberry puree and muddled mint. The gin was still able to shine through. Smashley - Shorty's White Whiskey, Chili, Mango, Cilantro. Mango + Chili...must I say more? Shorty's Old Fashioned - Whiskey, Bitters, Sugar Stirred, Orange. Your normal old fashioned, but loved the taste of Shorty's white whiskey. Finn & Tonic - Finn's gin & tonic. Simple yet always delightful. The bartender was very helpful and gave us the run down on the drinks before we ordered. They played a movie on the tv screen by the bar during our visit, which I actually enjoyed. I didn't want to leave until the movie was over...great way to get me to order more drinks! :P read more

This place is sweet. The drinks are good, and the alcohol is quality since they make it there. Check it out as a first stop on your way to the next thing. Service: Efficient, sweet, and knowledgeable. They get an A+ for detailed info. Ambiance: When its warm they can open up their garage door. Its very spacious. Almost too spacious in my opinion because when we went, it felt quite empty. There are a couple of large high top tables and then you can also sit at the bar. There is a lot of space between each table and between the bar and the tables. It just felt a bit empty due to this set up. Drinks: I had one of their signature cocktails that used vodka. It was delicious and vodka was really nice and smooth. I can not remember the name but it was refreshing and had a great balance. The bartenders are consistent in their pours and did a fine job at serving people the drinks they wanted. Food: NONE. It would add so much if they offered food here. The place is large like a restaurant but has no snacks, small plates, nothing. So I was ready to roll after having a drink because I was hungry. Price: Your usual fancy bar with special cocktails. It will run you about $12 - $14 depending on what you purchase. They also have their liquor for sale which is pretty sweet. Id stop by again for a quick drink if need be. I felt like it'd be good for someone having a first date and don't want to commit too much time because once you are done with your drink and tire of the television or conversation there is not much else to do but move one. I came here with a friend on an impromptu Logan Square bar crawl and thought it was a very cool space. We only had one drink each - I had the pomelo spritz, which I think was the white whiskey and grapefruit. Delicious, but I was kind of surprised that it was served with ice in a wine glass. Seemed like an odd choice for a cocktail. My friend ordered the gimlet, which was also delicious. I really like the atmosphere and building; it's a very open, light space and had a nice low-key crowd. The only thing I found slightly irritating was how slow the staff was. The place wasn't crowded by any means, but it took forever for our bartender to come back with the check, and then forever to run it and bring it back.
