    Beef souvlaki platter

This place is cute as can be. It looks like a little restaurant taken out of Greece with light blue and white colors. Food is on the more expensive side but I find that for pretty much all Greek restaurants. Our plates were also huge. We wanted to try dessert but we had no room left and took some leftovers with us.

Visited here with 3 friends and we had a lovely experience. We ordered too much food, but it was all delicious. Service is definitely slow, but I think that's just the vibe of the place and it didn't really bother us. I loved the spanakopita and hummus, and the lima beans was my fave. This is a great place to go with a group of people, and I believe on certain nights they have live entertainment!

I've been a fan of Koutouki for many years, so when I saw that VUE Weekly named them the #1 Best Greek 2018, that made perfect sense to me. I've spent many dinners with them, celebrated birthdays, and even held my Engagement Party at their restaurant. Koutouki has always served some of my favourite Greek food. However, over the past decade ownership has changed hands and various locations have opened and closed. I was curious to find out where things were sitting these days. The original chef and owner of Koutouki used to be Yianni Psalios. He and his family were even featured on two seasons of the reality TV show The Family Restaurant. At this time in the mid/late 2000s, Koutouki was in its prime and they embodied the height of Greek cuisine in Edmonton. Unfortunately, the Psalios family is no longer involved, however I remained optimistic that the spirit of the restaurant had lived on. I visited the original location in Westmount, an Edmonton mainstay, on a Sunday evening. There are currently two Koutouki restaurants in the city, neither affiliated with the other, which is bizarre. However, the original location is quite iconic, from its giant mural on the outside wall, to the absolutely perfect (still!) ambiance on the inside. The dining room is dressed up as a quaint Greek isles taverna and it has always looked like this. I was happy to find that it still does. The colours are classic Greek white and sky blue. The art all over the walls depict dreamy Greek scenes. And there are twinkling lights and tangles of hanging plants all over the ceiling. The atmosphere is everything that you could ever want and it's lovely. Visiting on a Sunday, the restaurant was very quiet. However, I have very fond memories of Friday and Saturday nights in the past when the restaurant would transform into a raucous taverna complete with loud music, belly dancing, plate smashing, zorba dancing, and Yianni himself going around pouring ouzo down everyone's throat. Even on a subdued night, the space still feels very special though, with Greek music playing (at a reasonable volume). Our server was very friendly and seated us immediately. She explained the day's specials, took our order, and it wasn't long at all until the feast began. I decided to grab a glass of Tsantali Rouge ($8.00 for 6oz), a red wine from Greece. A seemingly appropriate accompaniment to the meal, I enjoyed this wine a lot. It was light, juicy, and not too harsh on the palette. It captured all of the qualities that I enjoy in a red wine. I'm no wine expert but I know what I like and I liked this. For me, there is only one way to properly enjoy a meal at Koutouki and it's to order the Meze ($41.00 per person). It's a Greek feast that offers a dozen different dishes, allowing for an experience of Greece in the most traditional way. It's gotta be the meze, always. Once the food starts to arrive, it keeps coming like rapid-fire until you're stuffed and satiated. First to the table was the Horiatki (Traditional Greek salad with tomato, cucumber, green pepper, onions, feta and olives), a classic beginning. Simple and enjoyable, this salad was fresh and good. I especially enjoyed the bright red, ripe and juicy tomatoes. A kalamata olive is always a very welcome sight in my book! Next was Pikilia (Pita and an assortment of dips), a favourite every time. I was glad to see the generous amount of pita bread provided and happily sampled each dip. First, Tzatziki (yogurt, cucumber and garlic), the true classic. In fact, I think of tzatziki as Greek ketchup. This one was very good, capturing exactly the flavour that one expects and loves. In fact, we ordered even more of it because we need more for all of our food. Second, Hummus (chick peas, tahini and garlic), which I found a bit on the nose. Everyone knows hummus. This one was good just not exciting enough for me. Third, Tirosalata (roasted red peppers and feta), tasty and interesting. I liked the punchy flavour. Fourth, Kopanisti (spicy feta), which packed a great heat. I liked this one a lot for its spiciness. In the old days there always used to be baba ghanoush included and I definitely missed it. Next up was Spanakopita (Phyllo pastry with spinach and feta cheese), a near unavoidable Greek dish. For a bit of a cliché dish, this was a really nice version. Served piping hot, the dough was a perfect golden-brown and delightfully light and flaky. The spinach and feta on the inside was flavourful. I enjoyed this. And of course, Dolmades (Grape leaves stuffed with rice, ground beef, onions and dill). I always refer to these as the Greek equivalent to the Eastern European cabbage roll. And these ones were excellent! The tender leaves enveloped a delicious mix of rice and beef but what really caught my attention was the nice lemon flavour to it all. Some of the best dolmades that I've had in a very long time. Calamari (Deep fried squid) was next, and you can't have a Mediterranean meal without it. The calamari was a h

This place had been on our list for so many months but never got a chance to plan a lunch or dinner here. At last, My husband made the reservation here for my Birthday as a surprise. I am in so love with their ambience, it looks authentic greek restaurant with the wall colours and Interior. Order: Appetizers: Pikilia: Pita and assorted dips are the perfect appetizer to start your dinner with. Hummus, Tzatziki, Feta and Red pepper dips were so delicious that you would love to order them again during my next visit. Main Course: Kotopoulo Souvlaki: Chicken Souvlaki served with Pita, grilled potatoes and veggies was the the perfect greek food i was craving for. Soutzoukakia: Delicious Meatballs baked with tomato wine sauce served with Rice, grilled potato and veggies. I really liked the way in which potatoes were cooked. Usually i am not a fan of potatoes served as a side dish. But Koutouki won my heart. Rating: Ambience: 5/5 ( We really enjoyed the Belly dance as well) Taste: 4.5/5 ( loved the food) Service: 4/5 Portion Size: 5/5 (Quite filling) Value for money: 4.5/5

I am from Fort McMurray and make a point of Koutouki being my first stop for an incredible dinner, their food is delicious and very fresh, I 100% recommend the Meze, moments after ordering they start bringing out the food dish by dish until you actually get scared that it's never going to stop but thankfully it all is equally delicious the next day as leftovers. The atmosphere is lovely and the staff is knowledgeable and super friendly! I wouldn't change a thing and I can't wait until my next visit!

4.5 - Being a fan of healthy food, I was not let down eating here for my first time. They pride themselves in making their food from scratch and serving fresh food. They also haven't had any health inspection violations (in 2015 and 2016). These 3 things in itself will get me pretty excited to try any restaurant. I ordered a small Greek Salad. The salad was fresh and crisp. The dressing was made with olive oil and had a nice creamy texture to it. It was not too salty. They did use white onions but I found they went well in their salad. Next I ordered Spanakopita. This savoury pie was well put together. The filo dough was nice and flaky and the filling had a pleasant homemade taste. If I were to be picky I may have baked it a little longer. The tzatziki sauce it was served with had nice flavours. I digested their food super well. The service was prompt and courteous. Their prices are a little high but if this is the price I need to pay for fresh and homemade food, I'm ok with that. I'm definitely a fan of this place and look forward to returning.

My family adores this restaurant - especially my mom! It's become a tradition to come here for special occasions because it's such a guaranteed hit with our family. We recently came here to celebrate Mother's Day! Once you step inside, is like you leave Edmonton and get transported into Greece! The textured white walls and vibrant blue accents remind me of the famous buildings in Oia, Greece. The lovely Greek music adds to the cozy atmosphere inside. We usually start with the pita and some dips. To be honest, the four dips are quite small in proportion to the pitas that come with it. We split this amongst six people and we each had a small sample sized serving. We could've ordered more but we ordered so much food, that we didn't want to get full from the appetizers. Next, the fried calamari is a must here! So good! Crispy, well seasoned and garnished perfectly! There's some chopped onion mixed with the calamari and some lemon on the side. I also love the Dolmades! These pickle-like stuffed grape leaves pair so well with meat. The portion sizes here are actually quite large compared to dolmades I've seen elsewhere. Another hit are the roasted potatoes! The potatoes are cooked perfectly, lemony and jam packed with flavor! They come with the entrees but can also ordered as a side dish. I'm salivating again just thinking of these potatoes. So good! They unfortunately ran out of lamb skewers on Mother's Day. We opted to try the roasted lamb entree. Because they ran out of the lamb skewers, we were able to ask for an additional order of just the roasted lamb - our server asked the chef if we could do this. This was very nice of them to make an exception for us! We were dealing with major food coma after this recent meal. We thought we would pass on dessert but surprise! Tapioca pudding on the house! I've had nothing but pleasant memories from eating here. The food seems a bit pricey and sometimes there can be a bit of a wait for food...but I totally think it's worth it! This place is awesome!

    Under blended and flavourless hummus

Do not order food from here. The spicy feta dip (kopanisti) was a thick glue like paste that tasted like mayonaise, the hummus was under blended and flavorless, the pita bread were reminiscent of under cooked pancakes and the greek salad had a salty green dressing on it. This is clearly not the Koutouki I remember. I will never order from here again. Very disappointed. Ordered from Skip the Dishes Friday September 18, 2020.

It turned me off completely. my husbands's pork ribs were very good. vegetables (except carrots) were overdone. The two dishes, with unexceptional food cost us around $80 with tip. we had nothing else, no hors d'ouvres no alcohol, no drinks except water. I know we will not return. like I said maybe we did not know what to order. service was exceptional.

I am late on posting this but I have to get it out! This place was amazing! I enjoyed the food here…read moreso much! I love Greek food but I haven't tried Cosmo's yet even though it's been open for like 20 years. If anyone is planning on trying it with the COVID restrictions I would recommend doing so now, because when we went there was a lot of seating with lots of space between people! The food was just amazing. We started with the hummus and pita, and then I tried the Psari Paki! Both were delicious! However, it was the dessert that really stole the show for me. The owner/chef makes the desserts fresh daily and they are true Greek desserts! I loved them! They were called Ekmek and Galacto Buriko - pastries with custard, honey, almonds, etc. OMG they were heavenly. I would come back to this place for the desserts alone. The service was awesome. We came on a Sunday and had a friendly server who had been working there for many years! So she knew all the details and ins/outs of what we were ordering. She gave us tonnes of recommendations as well! 10/10 experience - I would recommend this spot to anyone interested in trying some of the Greek restaurants in YEG.

It was very over cooked like the scrapings off the bottom of a burnt pot roast. Tough, dried out and chopped up in pieces. Some at our table ordered the rack of lamb but I noticed the lamb was not all finished. The lamb was all overcooked! On top of that, it came with a side of mashed potatoes - not at all Greek style! The calamari I ordered was plentiful but lots of batter with not much flavor except for the yogurt (which was supposed to be tzatziki) on the side and some onion. The entertainment with the Belly Dancer was amusing. The service was exceptional from our waitress and kept everyone happy with quick service and smiles. The Waitress and Belly Dancer may have saved a couple stars for Yiannis food tonight! My wife's prawn saganaki was served in a small bowl, not a lot of sauce and not a whiff of ouzo. Pretty small serving, compared to previously ordering the same item. The order of Greek potatoes turned out to be 1.5 boiled potatoes cut in a few pieces with a slice of lemon and leaky yogurt (again, meant to be tzatziki). Pretty sure this is not how Greek potatoes are done. A friend ordered beef souvlaki, it was so dry and so burned, that she almost had to use all her muscles to pull out the pieces of meat from the burned out stick. I think she got exhausted trying to chew this dry meat and eventually left it all in the plate. Needless to say, this place can safely remove the "Greek" from their claim as nothing was Greek. Also, needless to say, we will not be going there...EVER!

They…read moreopened back in 1990, proving that their traditional Greek cuisine - 35 years strong - is a reliable mainstay, withstanding decades on the vibrant and ever-evolving Whyte Ave. It's been a hot minute since my last visit and I figured that it was due time. They were named Best Mediterranean Restaurant 2021 in the Edmonton Journal and this was enough to stoke my interest. A reservation is best, especially on a warm summer evening when their large garage-front doors are open to the outside air. Parking can be tricky on Whyte but with some luck you might grab a spot out front. I visited on a Saturday evening and despite my reservation, I was still unable to snag a coveted patio table beneath their signature blue and white awning. There was an empty table near the patio that they also wouldn't let me occupy because it was "already reserved." (Didn't I have a reservation?) I settled on a spot further inside the dining room, lovely nonetheless. The dining area is quite large, occupying two levels. Full of original exposed brick and beautiful painted murals, the space is designed to embody the feeling of sitting in a Greek taverna. The most striking element of decor is certainly the wall of glowing kako mati, or evil eyes, used to protect against negative energy. I had heard that traditional dancers entertain on Saturday evenings but no such dancers appeared. Maybe I was dining too early in the night? To start my visit, I was looking for a summery cocktail that would match the Greek feast that I was prepared to enjoy. Between the Ouzo Lemonade and the Aegean Fizz (Greek brandy, Cointreau, lemon, soda - $14.00), I chose the latter. This drink succeeded at being a fun effervescent summertime cocktail, however it was very boozy. I had a difficult time finishing it because the alcohol was quite strong. The menu is ideally crafted for sharing and in Greek tradition you can imagine large families feasting together over plentiful platters of various foods. This exact spirit is captured in Yiannis' Mezethes menu, filled with an abundant selection of appetizers. Why try only a few when you can simply order the Mezethes Platter (Dip platter, Greek salad, dolmades, meatballs, spanakopita, and kalamari - $49.00) and taste them all? (Or at least a lot of different items.) The dip platter arrived first, followed by the second course of everything else later on. Consisting of Melitzano Salata (Roasted Eggplant Spread), Revithia (Hummus), and Taramosalata (Caviar Mousse), all served with pita bread, it was fun to dig into this dish and to sample each of the different flavours. The Melitzano Salata made with garlic and tahini was my favourite because I liked the rough texture and full-on garlic punch. The Revithia was fairly standard, made with garbanzos and tahini. And finally, the Taramosalata was quite exciting with its mayonnaise-like consistency, made with lemon and infused with oil. As a caviar mousse, this dip felt the most luxurious. The pita itself was nothing special and somewhat hard and dry. It could have been purchased at a grocery store, for all I knew. The rest of the Mezethes arrived on a big platter and consisted of many colourful items to explore. Served with an ample helping of Tzatziki (Cow's Milk Yogurt Dip) made with dill and garlic, it's the ketchup of Greek food! It goes with everything! I loved trying each and every item on the plate, inadvertently taking myself on a little Greek adventure through food. The Horiatiki Salata (Greek Salad) was very fresh, bursting with bright juicy tomatoes, English cucumbers, peppers, onions, and kalamata olives. (I was happy to find kalamata olives dotting every dish.) Adorned generously with creamy feta cheese, the salad was excellent. The Dolmades (Stuffed Grape Leaves) were a surprise! Stuffed with minced beef and rice, I often find them dry and unremarkable. However, at Yiannis the dolmades were full of juicy flavour and one of the best items on the plate! I never thought that I could be impressed with dolmades and here we are! The Keftedes (Yiayia's Meatballs) were a similar experience. Made with minced beef and onions, the meatballs were juicy, flavourful, and not at all dry. Yiayia knows what she's doing! (But of course she does.) The Spanakopita (Spinach & Cheese Pie) is another dish that I often find underwhelming in other restaurants. Not so at Yiannis! Light phyllo pastry was wrapped around fresh baby spinach, dill, and creamy feta, creating a delectable bite. Maybe some of the best spanakopita that I've ever had! Finally, the platter included Kalamarakia (Crispy Squid) served with diced onion and tzatziki. I found the crunchy batter to be really heavy-handed and it was difficult to tell if there was any squid within each bite at all. Overall, there were a lot of great things about this platter and it was an optimal way to share with my co-diners and for us to tas
