Fried Ribs
Audra A.

This is one of our favorites. The fried ribs are so different but in the best way. We often sit at the bar, and have enjoyed the bustling entertainment of watching the servers mixing up cocktails and preparing items behind the counter. The seating options are varied. Brunch and dinner are both excellent options, and we have tried both several times. Service is always attentive and we've never had anything on the menu that was not very good.

Saturday afternoon bite to eat !

Kounter is a modernize restaurant that seems to be a renovation of an older soda jerk counter. Friendly welcoming and attentive staff . On the menu for today I chose the Blue plate Special ($23) OG, bacon wrapped meatloaf, swirl potatoes, veggie du jour, stewed, collards, steakhouse, vinaigrette, cilantro Crema. The dish was Tender medallions of meatloaf, wrapped in savory bacon. Topped with a steakhouse vinaigrette, tangy, and savory, which had an amazing flavor by itself, I just wish it added more to the main. Which was slightly bland. Unfortunately, this cilantro Crema had no hints of cilantro. The actual star of the show is the collard greens. The Collard greens has a subtle kick, which is amazing and flavorful, and gives that little extra punch. Hand slammed fries ($5) Parmesan - rosemary dusted, roasted tomato malt vinaigrette. Tasty especially with their house made ketchup, but unfortunately, the fries were a little on the soggy side. And a Blake's cider (5). crisp and refreshing. Perfect for a southern Carolina afternoon. Overall, food was delicious, but could use just a hint of attentions to flavor. I would definitely recommend you give Kounter a try. I would love to come back here again and try some more of their menu. Follow me on Yelp and Instagram @noodlesoupr as I travel the world in search of delicious food encounters.

Kounter has a nice atmosphere and solid service, which made the visit pleasant overall and you can't beat the history behind it! The staff was friendly, attentive, and checked in at the right times, so no complaints there. The food was a bit underwhelming. It wasn't bad by any means, just lacked the flavor and execution I was expecting based on the menu and hype. Portions were fine, but the dishes didn't quite stand out or justify a higher rating. Overall, it's better than average thanks to the service and setting, but the food is what holds it back from being a full 5-star experience. I'd consider giving it another try, but mostly to see if the food improves. It may be that dinner is better than lunch, we went for lunch.

We love Kounter, especially as a first stop prior to going to Elsie's speakeasy. I've been there before for brunch and mimosas, and now for dinner and the experience overall is always great. Super friendly staff, particularly at the counter/bar. They're attentive even on the busiest of nights. The food is delicious- last time we spilt muscles and a crab dip while we waited to go to Elsie's. Perfect amount of food for two, and came quickly. Only thing we're noticed is that their wait times online don't match when you show up. We've seen before that there are half a dozen "open tables" online so didn't reserve, and then show up ten minutes later to be told everything has been booked all day. Might be something with their systems, but needless to say sitting at the bar is great too if there is a seat.

Cameron was a great waitress and picked out the best on the menu. The staff was really friendly and it was a great local option for something different and they're open later than other restaurants.

Went to brunch at Kounter and it was fantastic. Service was on point. Seated promptly and our server was attentive and made sure we were taken care of. The food... I went with the Salmon "PLT" and it was fantastic. The dome the meal was served under with the smoke was a nice touch. We also had the Fried Everything Bagel which was also delicious. Also had a side of Pimento cheese grits and those were on point. All in all, no complaints and would come back again.

Charmingly nestled in downtown Rock Hill, boasting culinary delights & historical education on the Friendship Nine. Innovative menu that will make you want to make you try a bit of everything--which my dining partner and I did through an impressive array of oysters, fried ribs, cauliflower bites, crab dip, & Brussels sprouts. Every single bite was delectable & I trust that the leftovers will taste every bit as good for brunch. All that plus an adjoining speakeasy for a nightcap?! Cheers!

Meatloaf, corn, greens and mom's chocolate pudding

Kounter is always a favorite dinner spot when passing through Rock Hill. Today was no different with delicious food and attentive service. The meatloaf served with grilled corn, greens & mashed potatoes with mom's chocolate pie was a perfect end to a long day of traveling. Thank you Kounter team for creating a perfect destination & great food!

Southwest salmon salad!

Kounter in Rock Hill, SC absolutely deserves every bit of five stars. The food was delicious, the drinks were perfectly made, and the atmosphere was warm, welcoming, and full of character. Our waitress, Brandi (Brandice), was phenomenal -- knowledgeable, informative, respectful, and genuinely happy to be there. Her energy made the entire experience even better. The restaurant itself is deeply rooted in history as part of the Friendship Nine sit‑in location, and you can feel that significance the moment you walk in. It adds a meaningful layer to an already great dining experience. The bathroom was spotless, the prices were very reasonable, and everything from start to finish felt intentional and well cared for. Highly recommend Kounter for anyone looking for great food, great service, and a place that honors an important piece of Rock Hill's history.

Basil vinegrette. Lettuce in glass jar to be mixed with the vinegrette

Ate here for lunch with my dining mate. Friendly staff, nice menu, reasonable price, comfortable atmosphere. I had a cobb salad, with chicken, my dining mate the grilled cheese with a tomato soup sauce and a side order of brussel sprouts. Everything was tasty. I probably would try ordering something different next time. My salad had a 2 small wedges of tomato and very little chicken but lots of lettuce. I asked to omit the croutons. The basil vinegrette was tasty. I guess I wasn't used to their interpretation of cobb salad. The grilled cheese yummy and brussel sprouts great.

Food is amazing and service was great! We went as a foursome on a Saturday night and had sharables: Fried Ribs, Char-Grilled Oysters, Chicken + Waffles Sushi, and Beef Sliders. All were excellent! My top two were the sliders and chicken + waffle sushi. So good!

Nestled against the backdrop of the Pisgah National Forest, BMBR lay along the winding creek bed of Wilson Creek Gorge (although it resembles more of a river than a creek) endowing those lucky enough to witness the creek and Pisgah timberline with pure serenity. Brown Mountain Beach Resort's main attraction is centered around its coveted Rock Pavilion and the pavilion's speakeasy bar below. From the surrounding gardens and sprawling deck, guests have a view and access of the Resort's well-kept sand beach, providing onlookers a spectacular view upstream as couples exchange their vows against the rambling vista of the creek, old wood forest, and hazy mountains. The staff of Brown Mountain Beach Resort is reminiscent of your favorite relatives you don't often get to visit. The proprietor of the resort, Ron, is a genuine soul who wants nothing more than to share the majesty, that is his little slice of heaven, with those who find it. Ron's daughter, Kelsey, who has begun to take the operational reigns of the resort, mirrors her father's confidence, work ethic, and honest personality. Her and Ron's shared vision being evident in the continuing improvements to the resort, which were made in the year between our reservation being set and the wedding weekend itself. Friday, our guests began to arrive, as my wife and I decorated for the coming celebration. The check-in process was relatively laissez-faire and to each their own, as our guests trickled in throughout the day. That evening, BMBR prepared a delightful supper of wood-fired pizza, as our guests and ourselves all enjoyed one another's company. We were served beer and wine by the A+ staff of ____, hired out by BMBR. The revelry continued well into the evening as guests were able to come and go at their leisure. Saturday was filled with food and fun in the sun (and some nursing of hangovers) as our guests were left to their own devices. Some fished and kayaked while others went on hikes, some helped my wife and I tie together some final decorating details, while others enjoyed being outside, away from cell phone service with an endless supply of spirits. Our ceremony was everything we could have dreamt of and more, the weather cooperated for our outdoor ceremony on the beach, in the mountains (how spectacular is that?). Our vendors, who were primarily recommended by BMBR, all worked in perfect harmony, and the evening's festivities went off without a hitch. Our reception was held in the Rock Pavilion, followed by cocktails and live entertainment in the speakeasy. Our celebration carried well into the night, ending on the beach under the stars, sharing stories and smoking cigars. In summation, the weekend was absolute perfection, especially given this being a "destination wedding" for most of our guests, my heart hums with happiness just reflecting on it all. Sunday check out was late enough for a leisurely pace, following breakfast in the Rock Pavilion. Our guests, well-fed and thoroughly tuckered out after a weekend of matrimonial celebration, went along their merry way, and we followed right behind. All told, BMBR was the perfect location for our wedding, my wife even declared so in her vows. While the rural site is not the setting for everyone's tastes and vision for their wedding, BMBR knows what they have and shares it with pride and grace not found with corporate venues and larger establishments. Just as with any event which spans many days involving a multitude of people, hiccups happened, but where adeptly overcame and managed. My wife and I, while we are joyous to be done with the preparation and planning of the event, have exchanged a piece of our heart and soul with the McDaniel family, who so graciously share their little corner of the world with love and care. A gigantic thank you to all those at Brown Mountain Beach Resort, involved in making such an outstanding weekend and special day, everything it should be and more.

We did make reservations for a Monday night, though it wasn't busy at all, so you could probably swing by on a whim should you want to during the week. The place was a bit elusive to find, as you have to look for the '3 dot sign' with a staff member guarding the door, which I'm sure is the intent! Once you enter, you walk down a long, candlelit hall, which sets the speakeasy mood right away. Upon entering, the classic speakeasy vibe hits you! Dim lighting, leather chairs, a beautiful bar stocked to the brim with whiskey, bourbon, scotch, and all the other good things you would expect to find in a place that prides itself on great cocktails. It certainly set the mood and got us ready to have an experience. The mixologists were welcoming and informative. I enjoyed my first drink, which was suggested based on my personal preferences in taste. It was a spin off a classic, and I really enjoyed it. Sort of like a cross of a penicillin and a whiskey sour. [The Never Ending Story]. My friend had the clarified punch since we had similar things we've loved in the past. It was slightly sweet, smooth, and easy to sip. We decided to just get some classics since the cocktail menu felt more like just off shots of other classics we love. They were both excluded well! But the thing that really blew us away was the food! I was really pleased with this portion of our evening! We had the crispy Brussels sprouts, and they were the best BSs I've ever had! I thought we'd take some home, but that did not happen! My friend got the Mushroom Casarecce. It was creamy and delicious! The beef carpaccio was also really nice. Once inside, the space is dimly lit and small, which makes for a genuinely intimate setting. I'd say it's good for a quieter, more conversational vibe rather than a loud night out. We went with the bartender's choice: pick a base liquor, then two words to describe what you're after. I went with vodka and "slightly sweet, refreshing," for $18. The bartender nailed the brief but it wasn't a drink I'd think about again or specifically order by name. Solid execution, forgettable flavor. Service was the real standout. Our bartender was excellent at walking us through the concept and translating vague requests into something that actually worked. That, plus the atmosphere, is enough to bring me back to see what else is on the menu since we made it there just in time for last call so I ended up only having one drink.
