I purchased a new Ford F150 in 2012; in 2023 Kost replaced the muffler after 11-years of use. This muffler installed by Kost in Shavertown lasted only 2 years (13,000 miles). Unbeknownst to me they installed a low-end muffler but charged me for a high-end galvanized muffler. They replaced the resonator, the muffler and exhaust pipe at a cost of $1,300.00. Two weeks ago, I heard noise that sounded like a muffler leak. I went to Kost in Shavertown so they could take a look at it. They said there was a leak in the Y pipe and that the frame was so rusted that it would not pass the next inspection. For convenience I then went to Kost in Wilkes-Barre for a quote for the repairs where I was told the entire muffler system needed to be replaced; Y pipe, resonator, muffler, exhaust pipe and all the sensors at a cost of $3,400.00. I then went to a mechanic other than Kost for a second opinion. They put the truck on the lift to inspect it and to show me what needed to be done. First, the frame didn't need to be repaired. Next, no need to replace the Y pipe, it could be repaired. They showed and explained the 2023 (Kost) installation was the wrong resonator and need to be replaced. They needed to replace the muffler which was in worse shape than the 11-year-old muffler Kost had replaced 2 years ago, and also the exhaust pipe. The entire new job by this mechanic cost $1,200.00, including a high-end muffler (galvanized). They done the repaired and the job was done professionally. Women beware ! My wife took her vehicle to Kost , Shavetown Pa. for a as described on the work order clunking sound driver side , $1650.00 later the car was ready along with SAME clunking sound . Mechanic and manager said they can't figure out the problem . However they did a fantastic job at changing the transmission fluid , rotors and brakes and a wide assortment of things the vehicle didn't need . Oldest trick in the book, to prey upon trusting unsuspecting people that they can target . And by the way , just two months prior, she took the same vehicle in for oil change , $ 1350.00 the car was ready . Same scenario , " you need this " and I stress the word " need " . My wife is overly trusting , but this type of business can only be described as PREDATORY! read more

Long Story short I paid for an oil change that was never done and did not find out until I drove the vehicle on vacation and the engine sounded funny The Story: I have been going to Kost since February , I have had to have my front end redone 2 times covered under warranty. So since February the work I had purchase had to be redone. Each time I was given a line that it was parts or something else. I suspected that they we no honest but not being a car professional I could not verify. However this past Tuesday was the icing on the cake, I went in to have my egr sensor replaced and my oil changed. I had credit on file due to a tow they had to cover because of my warranty. When I went in expecting to pay more because the work exceeded my credit to my surprise the manager said no worrys. I said to him but I need to pay for the oil change. I was told it was on the house I drove to Gettysburg this weekend over 3 hrs and on the way home found out that they never changed my oil. I had suspected it when the sticker was not changed and when I checked my engine was below min. I called Kost and was told by the technician that the oil change was never on the work order. I had to add 3 quarts. Worst experience since February , I would suggest not ever doing business with them ever as they lied and said they did work they never did. I was 100% clear when I asked for the oil to be changed with full synthetic and 100% clear when I picked it up that the work was done and I was told it was. read more

I purchased winter tires through KOST since no one else in the valley could get me the size I need for my car (low profile tires). I get them taken off and put on by KOST every year since it was included in the purchase price. Everytime I have to tell them to check the tire pressure. I tell them it only takes 30 PSI but they always over inflate them. Once up to 45 PSI. Read the sticker on the door guys!!! read more

Went for an oil change today, as I was leaving I wanted to double check that the oil life was reset on my car. It was not so I went back and asked them to fix it. Two guys had no idea how to. The third person walked out and started to hit the buttons on my steering wheel changing my radio settings. I asked him to stop and expressed if he had no idea how to do it then to stop messing with my other controls. He was rude along with the others working behind the desk. Someone was finally able to reset it for me but gave me the same terrible attitude. I will never return for them to do work and am having it checked over this weekend to ensure the oil was change properly with full synthetic oil. read more

This is the only place I go to have work done. Anymore you go to a mechanic it's like you are buying a car all over again. Here I bring it in they tell me what needs to be done immediately, and what can wait. Also if I have parts they will use my parts and not charge me. They even come in cheaper with new tires for my car, than the place I have a replacement warranty through. They are customer service oriented. They want you to be happy and satisfied, and I always am when I leave. read more

If i could give this place a zero star i would. i got tires put on my car 2 weeks ago at this location. i went to change my brakes and i couldn't loosen my lug nuts. i used a 6 ft breaker bar and ended up breaking a socket (!) and my ratchet driver (!). and never got the lugs off. I had to take my car to a different auto shop who couldnt get them off either, even with a 1200 ft-lb torque impact driver and a TORCH! i watched as the mechanic used a torque wrench and actually sheared off the lug not. yes, the lug nut snapped in half because it was put on so tight. I had to leave my car overnight to get the studs drilled out. ALL TO CHANGE A TIRE!!!!! I was furious and spoke to the mechanic at the new auto shop, who told me he used to work at Kost, and they do this all the time, intentionally. Needless to say, this is dangerous. Had i gotten a flat tire, i would have been stranded on the side of the road and would have had to call a tow truck and kept my car in a shop overnight all over a spare tire. the worst part about all of this is that i told Kost i was about to go on a road trip, and asked them not to use the impact driver JUST FOR THIS REASON. I think it's clear they did this intentionally in response to my asking them not to do it. I will be taking Kost my receipts for my broken tools, and my garage bill for drilling out the studs. This shop is dangerous and reckless. DO NOT GO TO THIS KOST EVEN JUST FOR TIRES. read more

My wife took our Toyota RAV4 in to the Shavertown Kost garage for an oil change and inspection. She sat there with 4 other women and everyone of the women were told they needed something extra done to their cars. My wife was told our brake pads were worn and rotors needed to be replaced to the tune of $625.45. She said her husband would get back to them. They reduced it to $600. because they said they did the oil change (I guess I better double check that). My wife insisted on a written invoice to show me. I purchased front and rear brake pads for $68. and had my father put them on the RAV. NONE or the pads were worn beyond 50% and the rotors were fine. What kind of place is this?? Whatever you do, do NOT go here especially if you are a woman. read more
