I have been going here for years. Everybody treats you like family here, so I always have such an amazing experience every visit. The owner Nick is a sweetheart, and also extremely talented. Have been going to him for years, and he instinctively knows when I need a change in hairstyle. Truly it is just perfect. More recently I have been going to Beatrice due to a change in my schedule I love being able to go to a salon and not to have to worry about making sure that a specific individual is there, and not wondering about the outcome. All the staffers there are really quite talented. And it just elevates the experience to another level. Beatrice can work magic, believe me! Especially so on fine, unruly hair. And she is just as sweet as can be. Location is great too and easily accessible by a number of trains. Really, everyone here is just the best. Considering I have been going here since the time of "Giorgio's", I am so proud of Nick! I love this place because my hair dresser I've been seeing since I'm 14 is here. Her name is Irene and she does a hell of a job. You can make appointments with or be lucky and walk in and she is free. It's a sizable space to do hair. I didn't use the bathroom here because I had been sitting for 3 hours while she blessed me with beautiful hair. I always just let her do what she wants because she knows what she is doing. My hairdresser is a perfectionist and it shows. I like that I'm able to hit her up via text and not have to deal with staff to make appointments. Also the other lady that does hair here that is awesome is Beatrice. She does my mothers hair. The staff is on point with cleaning up cut hair. I noticed the place had a minimal amount of people for a Friday morning. The music was pretty chill and not to loud. I'm impressed with this location. read more

I got a very good haircut here! It was also very reasonably priced. My one minor complaint would be that the hairstylist pushed back when I wanted to have my hair cut shoulder-length. I appreciate the compliment that she thinks my hair is beautiful and wants it to be long, but I ended up not getting quite the cut I wanted because I felt like I had to compromise with her on length. I think if someone goes in there with a very strong idea of what they want and the frame of mind to just say, nope, I want what I want - they will get it. I just crumbled when the stylist insisted a bit more than made me comfortable that I keep it longer. I do recommend this place, but go in knowing exactly what you want and be willing to put your foot down about it, or you might end up walking out with something you didn't *quite* want. read more

Walked in for my appointment, explained what I wanted to the stylist- bangs redone, long layers throughout, pretty straightforward. I hadn't gotten a haircut at a salon since before covid lockdown, so I had cut it myself a few times at home but was eager to go back to a salon and have it professionally done. I should have known things were going to be bad when I mentioned layers and my stylist was like "only in the front, right?" Like what? I have never had a stylist say that before. I'm asking you to give me a haircut... for my entire head. My hair was moderately long (a bit past my shoulders) and thick. No, I did not want layers "only in the front", whatever that means. I indicated this to her and said I wanted an inch or two taken off. She got to washing my hair and asked if she could put a leave-in treatment in and that it would take 2-3 minutes. I said sure. She puts the product in and then went over to chat with the woman by the front desk for closer to 7-8 minutes while looking through her phone. Another bad sign. Finally I'm in the chair and she's cutting my hair very quickly and it's clear I'm not getting any layers, and also only getting about half an inch taken off. I never uttered the word "trim" once when describing what I wanted but I barely even got that. She said she was "cutting off the dead ends" but hardly anything was changed... when I got home and investigated my hair there were still very much many "dead ends" to be found. The cut was "done" and my hair looked exactly the same. At this point I was so irritated with the whole experience that I just wanted to get out of there. At least my hair will be nicely blow-dried, I thought to myself. But even that couldn't be done right. Typically stylists will get my hair a bit dry overall first and then go in with the circle brush and dry it straight. I thought that was what was being done, but after waving the dryer around my head, my stylist left my hair in its poofy state and proceeded to put globs of heavy product in while not even properly parting it. I left with my hair going every which way, virtually unchanged or possibly worse than from when I walked in, and weighed down with product. 0 stars. Stay very far away from this place. Possibly the most disappointing and absurd experience I have ever had at a hair salon. read more

The ladies here are extremely rude and they don't like to handle ethnic hair. They bumped the price up three times and I don't even know why. They then proceeded to burn my hair. My curls are sensitive and I'm hoping they didn't suffer any heat damage. Very unprofessional and impatient. They wanted to tend to other customers that arrived after me, before me. Never going back. I forgot her name (last chair right side long blonde hair) she had me seated in less than 10 minutes I showed her a pic of what I wanted and she mimicked the layers and almond round back to a T. I have not gotten my hair done in months and 2 days ago my hair was in serious need of being resurrected and I came into Kosa to only have the lovely and very personable Beatriz do my hair and give me soooo much LIFEEE! I loved my hair from the color, to the conversation to the cut and the blow dry the services was above excellent. Plus the compliments I have received since my service is just as rewarding. Tania did the Goldwell Keratin treatment on my hair on Saturday at 4p. It was my first time at this salon and I was a bit nervous because I am Dominican so my roots are very coarse. I was referred here by a coworker whose hair looked amazing right after the treatment. I am beyond happy with my experience. The staff was so friendly and welcoming. I was there for 4 hours and felt very comfortable. They are extremely knowledgeable about hair and actually care about the products they are using. The hairstylist (from Montenegro) is incredibly helpful in finding the best haircut for me, patiently explaining the different styles that will best suit my lifestyle and personality. It also helps that he is so easy to talk to and connect. The lady who prepped my hair before the haircut is also very friendly. Let me start by saying how happy I am that my girl Tania opened up the door of a salon today on a Sunday her day off and the day when salon is actually closed during hot summer days, to accommodate me and my available time due to the fact that's my only day off! I've been coming her for months now to get a keratin treatment and a haircut by Tania who is the sweetest person but a professional at what she does. I will start by saying that I have been to this salon several times now (haircuts, color, keratin treatment). Beware, this post will be long, so you can skip to the end, the middle is just details (I like details). My first time there was for a haircut, it was very detailed and the staff was very welcoming. Second time, I received another well done haircut. So I can say as far as haircuts go they get 5 stars. Then I went in for color, I specifically told the lady there I wanted a honey/chestnut/light brown. She suggested I get a balayage and I said ok sure why not. She also said she had to bleach my hair and I said ok. Then several hours later she blow dries my hair and it's a yellow/a bit brassy blonde and not just blonde (never asked for blonde btw) but it was also very uneven... I told her I wanted to tone it down and she just told me to come back the next day, so I did. She toned it but it was still blonde and uneven. (I will also like to add that I did show her pictures for color reference). So for color I give them 3 stars (I've had worse). I also came back for another process in hope that she could even it out but it didn't really help.. Fine, whatever, I guess I'll be blonde for a while now right?... So then the lady says I "need" a keratin treatment from all the bleaching she did. Hmm...I say ok, she's a hair stylist she must know what she's talking about. I go in for that keratin treatment and honestly what a waste for $300 dollars. My hair is about the same and I actually think olaplex is better for damaged hair. I would not recommended the keratin treatment. (Also want to add that when I came back 3 days later to wash and tone my hair after the keratin treatment. The lady was like "wow your hair is so much better" but tbh it wasn't. She then asked another lady for a hair mask and put it in my hair, then she brushes my hair and says "wow you can even brush it now"...I didn't say anything because I didn't even know what to say, but I mean who can't brush their hair when it has conditioner in it? If the keratin had worked why did she add a mask to my hair? I felt a bit embarrassed for her...) In conclusion, great haircuts, my experience with color sucked, keratin treatment was a waste. And I don't think I will be coming back. I was hesitant about writing this review but I just wanted to share my experience in case it would help anyone. She has been cutting my hair for literally 20+ years and I would never go anywhere else. She is honest and knows it all--color, cuts for your face shape, the latest techniques, etc. And she really knows how to fix problem hair--she brought mine back from the dead! Throughout the process she was consulting with me and making sure I approve before she cuts; this was a major plus for me since I've had my fair share of "scissor-crazy" hair dressers. Nic is amazing! Have been seeing Nic for years, first at Giorgio's and now at Kosa. Kosa is great, always a great experience.

I ended up having to cancel an appointment for a blow out elsewhere and was in a pinch to schedule a very last minute appointment for 7:30 on a Friday before an event. Kosa seemed like the only salon in Astoria to be open at that time. My blowout was $35 which I found to be on par with other salons in the area given my hair length. Everyone at the salon was so friendly and nice and Alexander did a beautiful job!! I told him I wanted a kind of loose wave and showed him a picture of my dress for the evening and he perfectly realized my vision. The only downside - I don't think he used heat protectant or other product in my hair besides hairspray to hold the curl, so my hair definitely felt a little damaged the next day. But, my hair looked amazing all night and I was in and out in about 40 minutes which was all that really mattered to me. read more
