Dr Eckman is pretty much the only dermatologist I trust…read more As a black woman, I often feel that doctors don't listen to me, rush through appointments, or think all my symptoms are psycho-somatic, which is the "nice" way of them telling me I'm crazy. Dr. Eckman has NEVER done this to me. He never rushes through appointments, and he takes his time. Unlike many dermatologists, he is also TIMELY. I LOVE the fact that he is ALWAYS on time. In all the appointments I have had with him treating my new, lovely of adult acne (-_________-), he has NEVER once been late. He and his office staff are extremely kind, and always listen. They never make me feel like I'm being dramatic or extreme in my concerns with my skin. He focuses not just on treating the existing acne, but also on treating the hyperpigmentation. Better still, Dr. Eckman's practice also offers a wide range of treatments in addition to derm appointments - chemical peels, hair removal, and more. In addition to consults and injections into cystic acne cysts, I also go to them for glycolic peels and the SECOND, and I mean THE L.I.T.E.R.A.L SECOND COVID is over, will be getting my new (but faint) mustacheeeeee (I know (-_-) wonderful, right?) lasered off...because I just can't. This is def a part of getting older no one ever warned me about lol ::gentle tear:: I also love seeing how clean and hygienic they are - they wipe everything w/ alcohol as they should, and always wear gloves and masks during the visit, per COVID regulations. This sounds basic but you'd be amazed how many offices and facilities DONT do this. Anyway, Dr Eckman always works with me to figure out the best treatments, and even gives me coupons to apply to my prescriptions. I have made an appointment with a general surgeon to have the epidermoid cyst removed. After your I&D there was no reduction in size and it is like I did not see you at all. Please send the results of the culture as soon as you get them. Sir, your bedside manner is non-existent. You lack compassion and you don't LISTEN to patient feedback. You administered 1% Xylocaine with Epinephrine. You did not wait even a minute before making an incision. The pain was severe. You minimized my complaint, telling me I was feeling "pressure" and not pain. Sir, I have had more procedures with local anesthesia than I can count. That includes oral surgery for a root extraction, bone graft and gum closure 4 weeks ago. Also Mohs S-plasty on June 18, 2024. I felt pressure but never pain. What I felt in your office was PAIN! Do not EVER dismiss a patient's feelings or feedback. I will have my other skin care needs attended to by a dermatologist in Florida when I get there. My advice to you, based on my experience and based on the comments left by other patients is to reassess what you do for a living, why you do it and if you cannot become more engaged, more empathetic and more communicative, stop practicing. Days later, after the rash continued to spread, we sought a second opinion from a pediatric dermatologist. That doctor took the time to perform a thorough examination, examine skin samples under a microscope, and diagnosed an entirely different condition. The result was six days of treating the wrong illness while it continued to worsen. I understand that doctors aren't perfect and diagnoses can change. What disappointed me wasn't just the incorrect diagnosis--it was how rushed the appointment felt and how little time was spent actually examining my child. Patients deserve to be heard, carefully evaluated, and treated as individuals rather than being rushed through an appointment. The insurance information and contact information for verification of benefits provided again 1 week prior to appointment. The office staff did not check benefits prior to visit and had no log in for the insurance company. I have been in the medical billing field for over 35 years and have never encountered such ineptness in my life. I went outside and phoned the insurance and coverage was of course in effect ... I had just left another doctors office however since the practice is located in the lower level or basement of the building there was no cell service and my insurance representative could not speak with them. The front desk person was too overwhelmed to call like I did , the remaining staff were eating lunch at the front desk. Their solution was to reschedule? Needless to say , time wasted. The practice has been MORE than safe with COVID. They have you wait in the car until they are ready and have different hours for sick and non-sick patients as well as newborns. We have always felt safe each time we have arrived. The dr.'s rotate which we are perfectly fine with. Dr's. Abrons, Eskander, and Shearer are all extremely smart, confident and know what they are doing. We are fine with any of them and have no issues. Further more, I like how you can contact them 24/7 with issues and they don't make you feel silly when you are potentially asking something that might come off as "dumb". They all seem to operate under it's better to be safe than sorry! Lastly, I like that we have had some zoom calls during the pandemic. My little fella got conjunctivitis when he was only a few months old. Dr. Abron's was able to diagnose it via zoom and call in a prescription that was deliverable by our pharmacy. This took so much anxiety out of everything when you are dealing with a 3 month old baby during the height of a pandemic. We are so very thankful for all of them and the lovely staff :)
