My experience at Kornat was... fine. Service was fine - attentive but not distracting. Decor is fine - minimalist and clean. It was quiet, and I appreciated that!
I found the whole ordering process to be somewhat confusing - there are a LOT of "starters" listed on the menu, very few mains, and a section called "... and much more" that seemed to include both? And no wine list by the glass?
I wanted a light meal, heavy on the veg/salad and seafood. Ordered the cherry tomatoes w/rocket pesto "salad" and 3 scallops (6 euro each) from the "... and much more" section. [NOTE: I told the waiter I was thinking about ordering 3 scallops, and he said "for a starter?" Um, no.] That section of the menu is weird, as some dishes are in the 25 euro range, others are priced per piece.
I got: a bowl (whole pint!) of cherry tomatoes with a little pesto (I expected, well, SALAD - there were no greens at all), and 3 (too lightly seared) scallops, served on the shell. No sauce, no garnish. Just a lemon wedge. It was plenty of food, although needed some seasoning, but... pricey for what it was. (And scallops could have used more of a sear... although they were perfect inside.)
Complimentary (well, ok, I paid a cover charge) bread & olives were delicious, as was the olive oil. Just a really strange menu... I'm not sure if I had ordered a different "salad" it would have come with some greens? (I thought about the burrata appetizer - is it just a ball of cheese?) Are there sauces/garnishes on other dishes? Mine were just so pared down that the cost seemed unreasonable for what I ordered.
I DO think this would be a great place to take a group (from 3-6 people) - order a bunch of starters, try different things. Not a great place for a single diner, unless you'll really hungry and willing to pay. read more
