How privileged we are to be able to learn about Korean culture by highly qualified Korean instructors from Korea sponsored by King Sejong Institute and the South Korean government -- and additional sponsor, Nongshim. Today I learned about the history, style, lore, importance of the beoseon. I had no idea! After the lesson (lectured in Korean and English), we had the opportunity to practice writing Korean on our beoseon with our black calligraphy pens and cutting out the shape of the beoseon. We then transitioned to sewing our beoseon pattern pouch. I learned that the pouch is significant because it stores the pattern from which your beoseons are made. For example, in olden days, part of a bride's preparation was to make 100 beoseons and bring them to her new family's home. Typically, she would gift each adult in that household 10 beoseons each. Today's experience made me once again appreciate my Korean heritage and fanned a desire in me to learn more. I look forward to more education and making of memories at this fine institution and program. (Note, I was ambitious today. I took back to back classes. The 2nd class was about the ear-shaped pouch. It is a simple but elegant, traditional, and practical pouch to carry money, ID, tobacco, etc.). Two thumbs way up for both classes today. The lecturer was top notch and passionate about her topic, and the staff on site were all welcoming and helpful. I now work here as a Korean language teacher, so I may be biased, but I can confidently say that this center is the ideal place to learn the Korean language because of the teachers who come with lots of experience, credentials, and education background in teaching Korean as a second or foreign language. And students seem to come from all over Orange County (some even from San Diego!) Also, it often promotes and hosts cultural events and programs, which makes it a hub for all matters Korean. For the last 8 weeks, I had a great time both as a student taking Korean Fundamental class as well as an intern from UCI. People here are extremely friendly and super helpful in both providing Korean language knowledge as well as other working skills. From the perspective of a student, I had zero knowledge of Korean language but after just three classes, I could read all of the Korean signs around Irvine. Teachers were friendly and effective in teaching Korean for beginners. Probably would recommend more people sign up for classes here. read more

I took an accelerated summer course in Korean here. I started at the beginner level, though I do have some previous experience with the language. I wanted to get a firm foundation, especially in the usage of particles. I believe I got some of that understanding but there is still much to learn. I have signed up for fall. The only critique I have is that, because of the accelerated pace, we didn't go as much in depth on things as I would've expected. I could tell some students were sitting in class still very confused and our numbers dwindled as time went on. Additionally, I very much liked the teacher personality-wise but her teaching style was very scattered. She sometimes arrived to class unprepared or with fewer handouts than there were students. She would have her aide or a student cut sheets of paper for flash cards, for example, during class. I would think that would be something you'd do before class? Idk. Just not my style but I still learned from her. Plus I think language teaching is hard because everything is not cut and dry, like math. In any event, the classes are inexpensive and useful. You just need to be committed, which requires more effort now that we're all adulting haha read more

Regret to say the idea of this center is very alluring and beneficial for the Korean community, but the director Tammy is very unapproachable and biased with students and parents. It's sadly political. Let's just leave it at that. And don't even try to get your child out of a single Korean language summer class. Miss a class and you will get kicked out of the remaining sessions or at least threatened to. You might get excused if you're hospitalized or "connected." Not a very family centered place. read more

I worked here as an intern for three months. Everyone was kind and fun that they helped me practice my Korean language skills every day. They were happy when I asked them for help if I had the tasks that I did not know. I learned more about working with people from another ethnic group (I'm not Korean). As an intern, I did several projects for the center, and I attended a campaign meeting which was interesting experience. KAC also had many Korean classes and programs for people with a lot of fun activities. I'm grateful to everyone in the center for helping me improve myself. read more

The Orange County Korean Cultural Center offers two Korean language courses every three months. The first course teaches the basic reading and writing and speaking for $60 per Semester. The teacher uses several tools to make the reading and writing fairly easy to learn. The Korean teacher is a native Korean. The beginner's course is every Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. until 6 p.m. The second course is for anyone who is interested in learning the conversation Korean by using Immersion technique. The Korean native teacher speaks mostly Korean with simple sentence structures and repetitive hearing and speaking with the teacher cater to anyone whether one is the beginner or advanced to learn to speak and undersand Korean language quickly. The cost is the same. If one takes the two courses, the price for the second language course is $40 more for each three month semester. There are no course books necessary. Overall: 5 Stars This group is great. The leaders and core members of this group make you feel welcome and you learn a lot here. This started as a Meetup group but now it is so different than any Meetup group you find. They offer three tracks you can go on depending on your level. They have a formal Korean Lesson track where they do Korean language classes from an actual teacher. This track is great for beginners and lets people have somewhere to start other than an expensive language school or at home in Orange County. They have an advanced-beginner Korean Learning track where they focus on more basic Korean conversational skills and more advanced grammar for people who want to improve their Korean beyond the basics. Then they have an advanced track called Korean Language Exchange, in which you will spend the entire time practicing speaking in Korean and sometimes helping Korean nationals to speak English. The people: 5 Stars The leadership and the core members are very friendly and the rest of the group are friendly as well. They help you with whatever you need, but you are expected to participate as well. This group can get quite large so you may not be able to meet everyone, but they also hold after group hangouts directly afterwards in where you can meet more people. The Korean Language Exchange: 4-5 Stars The reason why its not a straight 5 stars is because this group is all about what you put into it. What I mean is if you participate and get involved with the learning process, you will get a lot out of it. If you just attend and do nothing and just listen, you won't be getting the best experience. Korean Class: 5 Stars These are great. Formal instruction in the beginner track and semi-formal instruction in the advanced beginner track. You get a lot out of it. Organization: 5 Stars This group seems to really care about promoting Korean language in a non invasive way. You get to understand the language more, learn some interesting factoids on the way, and improve your Korean! *All tracks are for adults only and focus on language exchange, Korean Lessons, and Korean Classes for adults. read more

Friendly and easy way to learn Korean on your spare time. The classes are usually at night, and they provide extra supplemental "classes" that you can go to, free of charge, to practice speaking Korean with other students. The material they use is really straight forward and the teachers are native Korean speakers and very friendly. Highly recommend! read more

This is a great place to learn Korean. They offer Korean lessons for adults and have weekly English/Korean language exchanges with Korean learners and native Korean speakers. This is a very good organization. I'm looking forward to the formal Korean classes. read more
