Our daughter started at MPCS in 2023, and finished her pre-k class with Ms Amy, Ms Venus and Mr Erick last May. This was so bittersweet, as we all wished that she could stay longer (as long as possible) in Marco Polo! We didn't want to leave! We were a part of such a tight-knit, warm, supportive, and welcoming community - the teachers, fellow parents, all the students - that I truly believe that the bond forged and positive effects gleaned (both academic and non-academic) will last well into the future. We felt that the Reggio Emilia approach worked so well in helping kids of different character traits and temperaments grow according to their own pace and strengths. We loved all the teachers that have taught our daughter, as well as others we saw every single day in their various supporting roles (admin, front desk, meal times, science, subs, etc). It took a village, and boy was that village awesome. We could feel that the teachers (and everyone else) working there truly were there because they loved kids, and they loved helping kids thrive. The Preschool and Pre-K programs were particularly notable and instrumental in their roles in helping our daughter get more than ready for her kindergarten year (and beyond). Under the relatively new leadership of Ms. Kimberly, I saw notable improvements in terms of the variety of interesting new subjects, activities, and a stronger sense of direction, leadership, and community. We can't possibly thank Marco Polo enough for helping shape our daughter, for encouraging and loving her, and for supporting us throughout. I can't speak highly enough of Marco Polo Children's School. My daughter attended here from the age of 2 all the way through PreK, and I truly wish they also offered kindergarten so that she could have stayed longer. From day one, I was impressed by how clean and well-maintained the school is, and it's clear that they really prioritize the kids' safety and well-being. There is generally a waitlist for admission so it's advised that you start the process ahead of time. What stands out the most is how they encourage children to develop their own unique personalities, critical thinking skills, and social abilities. We moved to irvine after the pandemic and needed a trustworthy and stimulating environment for my son who was 2 years old then. After having experienced play based learning and montessori before, we were on the hunt for another play based school.. Marco Polo was one of them. Marco Polo provided my son an environment of creativity, individuality, independence and most of all love and care from his teachers to grow. It is a bit pricey and the timing is very limited and sometimes challenging for working parents (8:30am-4:30pm) with an after and before care option for extra charges (wasn't worth it for us). Recently with some changes in management the school snacks have become healthier. And here we are after 2.5 years of Marco Polo and grateful for all the connections we have made all the friends my son has and couldn't ask for more. We are grateful for all the teachers (Ms. Destinee, Ms. Fateme, Ms. Angie, Ms, Aneglica, Ms. Venus, Ms. Amy and Ms. Paris) who truly give it their best so our littles can thrive! We always knew our son was getting the best care while we dropped him off. This is definitely overdue, but my kids have been here going here since 2022. The teachers are so kind and patient with the kids. The school itself is well-kept and this year they have added some really great family activities (student performances, family events, etc.). We did tour other schools before choosing Marco Polo, but never go the same feeling of professionalism, pride, and care that we saw here. I feel like my kids have become so much more independent during their time here. They are excited to go to school and love talking about the things they learned/did. The school is overall ok, and the Chinese immersion program is good for mandarin speaking families that have young children to adopt the early stage of daycare. The time is not flexible without paying for an extended program. The general time is from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm. The teachers are caring and loving the children. We are thankful for Marco Polo. We first enrolled our daughter in 2018 in the toddlers Mandarin Immersion program, but only stayed a couple of months before we moved away. During that short time, the teachers (Ms. Michelle-- still at Marco Polo sometimes, and Ms. Lanxin-- now at Pacific Academy) were SO wonderful and caring. I'm so thankful they used (and still use) Brightwheel to provide updates. We loved Marco Polo so much that when we moved back to the area, we enrolled her again, this time in the pre-K Mandarin Immersion class. The teachers (Ms. Hongyan, Ms. Lily, and Ms. Emily) are so kind and are great instructors. We are not a fully Mandarin-speaking household, so the immersion program is important to us. It is so wonderful to hear my daughter singing Mandarin songs she learns from school. The kitchen and art areas are so cute, and clean too. They even make mooncakes! Downside: Traffic in that part of Irvine can be pretty bad during times of the day when people are commuting to and from the many offices in the area. read more

My 5 y/o daughter's essentially graduating from the Mandarin immersion program at MP, where she's gone been from pre-school through TK. My 2.5 y/o son is now following suit, based on the great experience we've had. While I still can't tell you the difference between Reggio and Montessori, I can confidently say that my kids really love their teachers and classes. As we can see from the multiple daily updates in Brightwheel, they do a lot of arts & crafts, yoga, singing, dancing, moving around/exercising, and reading in Mandarin. Of course, we see/hear it at home but it's nice to see the photos and videos throughout the day. My son attended this school from August to December 2022 in Junior preschool program with Ms Kathy, Ms Maria and Ms Micah. Unfortunately we did not have a good experience with this school. Besides Ms Micah other teachers seemed nice but not experienced enough! Also school rules about not helping the kids eat their food was so strict, my son refused to eat there and threw tantrum due to hunger and they kept wondering why! Anyone who has experience with toddlers would know hunger is one of the main reasons toddlers throw tantrums!They let him cry for hours claiming he needs to self regulate but it led to anxiety and he got so traumatized! The last week before we gave them our notice we were told by teachers every day at time of pick up that other than a bit crying at drop off he had a great time but one day just 5 minutes after we dropped him off, The manager(Stacy) called my cellphone and made me listen to my son SCREAMING saying are you hearing him? She continued talking but all I could hear was my son screaming! That was so unprofessional and unethical! I was on Main Street while she made that phone call! My heart still starts to beat so fast whenever I pass that street remembering that day she made me listen to my son crying like that! I was with my husband that day and we immediately went back to school! When we got there manager told us he had been like that for a week. I said why did the teachers tell us he had a great day other than a bit cry every day? Why didn't they tell us he was crying like that? The manager said "well! I'm telling you now"!!!!!!! Soon after that day we had a consult with a child psychologist who assured us my son does not have any problem other than separation anxiety and she said she needs to talk to the teachers asking some questions to see what they did to calm him down and to give them some tips! Ms Kathy stated she would love to talk to the Psychologist but she did not answer her phone when she called and did not cooperate to make some time to talk to her and then left for vacation! Doctor recommended us to change the school and we did so! And surprisingly my son did great at the new school from day one! He did not cry at all and we even did not need the help of psychologists to overcome his separation anxiety anymore because he didn't have it at the new school! There are some things that I believe made my son unhappy there which I mention below: - Their room was small and right next to the younger toddlers classroom. They actually shared the same bathroom together and my son could hear them crying which made him really sad and anxious. In the new school their classroom is much bigger and not close to the younger kids who cry a lot! - At Marcopolo they don't let you get into the classroom to drop off your kid. In the new school I was allowed to take him inside the class and stay with him for a few minutes which made a HUGE difference! He got much calmer and other than shedding a few tears only on day one he never shed a tear after that and calmly says goodbye to me! - One of the concerns the Marcopolo teachers brought up was he repeated a sentence and I knew it happens when he is not being paid attention to. He does the same at home when he is talking to me. If I don't pay attention to him he would repeat until I answer and he stops as soon as I give him an even short and quick answer that assures him I am listening. Psychologist said it's a normal behavior which teachers would have known if they were experienced! He got very upset when being ignored. Ms Micah seemed to have a good relationship with him but I am not sure about the other teachers. Considering he had to repeat his words until heard I assume he was heart broken by not being answered and when Ms Micah quit and wasn't there for him anymore he got so traumatized. - One day on our last week there I sat in my car outside the school because I wanted to pick up my son early and I heard a poor kid crying so loud 2 hours straight! Thinking they also had let my son cry like that claiming he needs to learn to self regulate broke me down! I feel so guilty I made him stay there for 4 months but I am so happy we followed the Psychologist's advice and changed his school because he's doing great now! read more

We moved to Irvine last year and were in need of a quality pre-K. We enrolled our daughter to the Chinese immersive class, who at the time spoke almost zero Chinese. We didn't hope for anything thinking that she'll transit to English class when there's spot. The first month was tough due to language and the social regression of COVID. Ms.Hongyan made fun curriculum every week, my daughter started singing songs and poems, and started to have friends. After she pushed through the first month her language had a smooth sail afterward. Now she can have a decent level of conversation with her grandparents who speak only Chinese. We never expected this. Ms.Hongyan and Ms.Nan are amazing teachers. They not only kept the class fun and full of knowledge, but also also helped my daughter to go through her emotions at school, they taught her to deal with conflicts. We were looking for a long time for a school that was strict with COVID precautions with both Staff and students and found that with Marco Polo. As a pediatric ICU nurse, I greatly appreciate all the strict precautions and notifications. Academically my son has grown so much, he just turned 3 years old and this is his first preschool. He adjusted quickly to the schedule and the teachers are so warm, compassionate, and caring. We get a multitudes of updates throughout the day and at pick up. The extracurriculars such as cooking class, exercise class, and the myriad of arts and crafts make this school well rounded. I highly recommend this school for any parent of a toddler. I have scheduled their "virtual" tour months in advance and today I got a text message that the tour is canceled! Just two days before the tour date with no explanation!!!! Really ???? I called this school in spring, and they told me the only way I can see the school is through virtual appointment and the next available is in October so I signed up for it. Then I told my mom friend about the school solely based on reviews on yelp, and she was able to enroll her daughter right away without taking the tour or waiting on their long waitlist!!!! We chose this school based on its Reggio Emilio philosophy and loved how the curriculum was based on the children's interests. Even though it's a newer school, they really did a great job when covid-19 hit and were forced to move things virtually. Marco Polo is a wonderful school with loving teachers. We want to especially highlight Ms. Caitlin. She has consistently gone above and beyond. Especially during SIP. She made our daughter feel so special on her birthday by spending 30 minutes of individual virtual FaceTime doing her favorite activity - babydoll circle time. When we returned back to school in June, she and Ms Venus continued to nurture our daughter with love and evident compassion. We will think and speak fondly of Marco Polo school. My son had been in Marco Polo Preschool's Sailor Blue program for 7 months. We made the right choice of his first school and felt highly appreciated and grateful with teachers who nurture our kid. 1. Kid is happy going to school. He loves to play with toys at school, loves to sing and dance with his teachers, and enjoys arts and crafts activities every day. The most enjoyable part of my day is to look at his pictures and videos on Brightwheel. 2. Both teachers are kind and well trained and the school maintains a small class size. Ami and Yuna pay close attentions to every detail of each kid's development and keep parents' daily updates via Brightwheel. They will make sure kids drink enough water, nap well, and get cleaned up after the diaper change. I have learnt a lot from them on how to help children explore their interests. They are kind and have warm hearts, making parents feel they truly love your kids. When I drop off my kid in the morning, he always goes to hug his teacher. Whenever I ask what he loves most about the school, he always smiles and says to his teachers. The improvement I could think of is that school could extend the pick-up time to 5:30 pm or after as it gets challenging for working parents to pick up before 5:00 pm. read more

I have been left no choice but to leave this review. I am so hurt and disappointed in this school for completely failing my son, he has been given up on entirely. This school has kicked my son out due to crying. They would force me to leave work to come pick up my son saying he was crying...every time i would get there to pick him up he was either napping or completely calmed down, and WOULD STILL have me take him home...they occasionally would let him stay but still have to pick him up early at 12.30 pm which is impossible for me most of the time. usual outburst, calling me almost EVERY SCHOOL DAY to pick him up because they don't give the tender loving care and education my son deserves, I am disgusted with the schools staff and i put EMPHASIS on the principle of this school, she has told staff AND myself that my son has behavioral issues!!!! Which he does not in the slightest!! I have taken him to the Irvine school district for testing and there is absolutely nothing wrong with him! This hurts me so much knowing he must have been so uncomfortable in class with the treatment i have been informed was bestowed upon him. I have had to switch schools now because i felt so helpless. MOST of all this school DELETED my sisters last review as if it means nothing to them, which actually goes against yelp entirely. I have met with this school and the LIES they told me straight to my face were extremely offensive to me let alone my poor son, i will repeat again they DELETED my sisters review regarding this situation. I pray no family has to go through this with this school. They failed him entirely . This school could have gave less of anything to help my son and gain understanding with him. I am so grateful to Marco Polo for creating a nurturing, warm, and safe environment for my daughters. We started attending in June 2020. The COVID protocols are exceptional. The staff is 100% vaccinated and masks are required for staff, parents, and children over 2. My girls learned so much Mandarin. Between my 2 daughters, we have had every Mandarin teacher. They are all incredibly dedicated and seem to love their work. The school is receptive to parental concerns and it feels like the first priority is the well being of the children. Both my son and daughter went through Marco Polo program and the experience has been exceptional. The facility is amazing and we had so many updates throughout the day. My son only got to attend for half a year because he was older when he started. My daughter was able to start with the school younger (at the age of 2), and went through the program for 3 years until she graduated. She is in a Chinese immersion private school now and has gained so much confidence in her ability in speaking Mandarin. We traveled to Taiwan last summer and she had no fear interacting with people there and was able to be dropped off for individual art lessons. I was very impressed by her language ability (we don't speak Chinese at home) - it showed that she learned A LOT from Marco Polo! All of the teachers we had were very warm and responsive. I can also see that the program fostered her creativity - she has become very artistic and loves to build things with any materials around the house. We absolutely love Marco Polo children's school. I toured almost every preschool in Irvine and even some in Lake Forest, Marco Polo is surely our best choice! My son started 2019/11 and absolutely loves to go to school every single day. The caring staff and teachers, bright and safe environment, beautifully designed campus, spacious classroom, Reggio Emilia inspired curriculum which based on children's interest and project-based learning are all that make the school stand out from other facilities. I am also obsessed with how they display children's art work and group projects in their classrooms and how children get to experience cooking in their culinary kitchen and create art project in their art studio. They went beyond expectations coping with Covid to keep every Marco Polo family safe and healthy. During the school closure, teachers worked so hard to provide virtual learning and activities for kids to do at home. It's challenging and only can be done by great teachers! We are on our third consecutive year at Marco Polo and I could not be more pleased that we have found the most incredible, enriching, and encouraging program for our kids. My son has started kindergarten at a mandarin immersion program this year after graduating from Miss.Hongyan's TK class last year. Her class has set him up extremely well to flourish in his new elementary setting. The daily reports from his teachers, both English and Mandarin are glowing. He has been able to keep up with the coursework, engage in School discussion and workload, has developed solid social emotional skills, as well as the confidence to excel in academics. we do not speak Mandarin at home but Marco Polo's Director of the Chinese program miss Jing has developed such a thorough and well structured Mandarin program that my son has been able to transition to a 90% Mandarin immersion program without speaking any English at home extremely well! My daughter is now in Miss Hongyan's TK class as well and while my children have completely different personalities, needs and strengths They have both thoroughly enjoyed their experience at Marco Polo. We are so sad for this to be our last year as my daughter will be starting kindergarten, but it is extremely comforting to know that her transition into elementary school is set with the most outstanding foundation, provided by the directors and educators at Marco Polo. If you are searching for, an English or Mandarin preschool I cannot recommend this program more! We are thrilled with our daughter's enthusiasm at Marco Polo, and only wish we discovered it earlier. The teachers here are thoughtful and attentive. Best of all, we receive constant updates with photos, videos, and messages in a well organized app. The curriculum is clearly well thought out and shared with parents in advance. My son had a wonderful experience at Marco Polo Children's School. The education quality was amazing, and his Chinese has continued to improve. It is so wonderful that the school offers on site dance and sports classes as well. My son also loved the summer program in which each week had a fun theme. Definitely recommend this school and hope to send my son's little sibling there in the future as well. read more
