It is well known that less controlled dog parks can result in canine disease spreading. In addition many people do not train their dogs and have little control over them. Dogs can be triggered and may bite or attack other dogs or humans trying to separate them. Humans are responsible for ensuring such parks are safe for dogs and people. I see nothing wrong with requiring a bit of education of dog owners regarding canine behaviors and warning signs to protect all involved. If you don't like the rules don't join. There are plenty of parks around with zero controls- good luck because you may need it.

This is a MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED dog park, and it is well worth it because it gives you a somewhat safer state of mind knowing that there is accountability of who comes in and out of the dog park. Annual membership is $35 for residents of Whitpain and $50 for non-residents which is a very reasonable fee. If you go to the township's website there is orientation sign ups that are mandatory. It is just a basic class to go over dog park etiquette and dog behavior. I also like that the parking is right next to the dog park and there is alot of visibility. They recently added lights and soon water! Everyone that I met is friendly (humans and dogs alike) and there is a good regular crowd between dinner time and sunset. My experience here is definitely better than that of other dog parks. Dog owners are actively engaged with their dogs and sometimes conversating with other humans. There is a small dog area that seems like it is not used as often as the big dog area. Depending on your comfort level and your type of dog, the small dogs are sometimes in on the big dog side and having fun too!

Recommend putting in KoKo or Santander Bank that's right next to Assi Plaza then driving all the way back to the last parking lot. You should be able to see the bark park entrance once there. There's two sections separated by large and small dogs. The grass surrounding the areas aren't maintained well but once inside the park, it's fine. My pup went into the small area and no one was there which we liked since the big area had a couple of big dogs which the parents weren't really paying attention to. My dog is fine once she gets into the open area but can be leash aggressive when on the leash. Which the one time we were going, two dog owners were coming (one to and one from) the park where their dogs were OFF LEASH on the path outside of the dog park., on way to parking lot. One came towards my pup very aggressively. My neighbor hasn't been there for a few years either because his gentle dog was viciously attacked (as in grabbing her by neck//throught, standing over, shaking her, and her owner did nothing, until others yelled at said owner,, who picked her dog up and just left without making sure his dog was okay, or apologize. After owner left, friend said he picked his dog and rushed her to the vet, Another time, my first time there, I took my two to the smaller side, and my beagle was doing well until a gentleman arrived with his small dog who immediately went after my beagle in a very aggressive way and he said "just let them work it out." Thankfully the others there said "No. you don't do that with someone's first time experience bringing their dog to a dog park," which felt good to be supported in that way Finally, one other time, it was a pleasant experience, the people welcomed us in, asked about our dog, helped if either of our dogs seemed overwhelmed, etc. As a result, it is hard for me to say whether or not I would recommend this park since I have not been there for five years.

Kitchens lane has been a point of contention for years now. I see community posts about dog beach and dog meet ups at kitchen lane. I would like to see signs or notice reenforcing the rules of the Wissahickon creek. Dogs are to be on a leash at all times 6ft maximum. I have had countless amount of hostile interactions with Dog owners explaining the rules. I have 3 small children that I fish with at Kitchens lane with. 1st for the protection of my children dogs should be on a leash , 2nd I purchase a fishing license every year. Which permits me to fish in the wissahickon creek. Please correct me if I am wrong. There is no such permit or license which allows dog owners to let there dogs roam freely thru the Wissahickon or Fairmount park. Again I understand everyone want to enjoy nature. However there are rules in place for people's protection & enjoyment. I am simply asking these rules to be enforced

There are still irresponsible dog owners and dogs that I don't believe have the temperament to be in a dog park. I also don't think the park itself is that great. It's just a fenced in area of mulch... no grass and only one enrichment toy (a plastic tunnel). I've also had an issue with the key fob not working, despite being told that it's active. It's OK. It's an OK park. Your experience will depend greatly on the weather (when it rains, it's a mess) and who happens to be inside when you get there. As with all dog parks, keep your wits about you.

FYI. kent dog park was an extremely unfriendly unwelcoming dog park…read more i just moved from west delco to east delco. going from rose tree park, glen providence, morris scott, and smedly to kent was surprising. perhaps because it's inclosed? because there's an annual fee? the heat? kent dog park culture is the most unfriendly dog pack i've ever experienced. i'm not returning. found friendly places locally to walk dog. for the record. i don't imagine it was me and my dog. we are both social and friendly. we've been walking with the dog packs at the above mentioned dog parks for 13 yrs. and before this dog, it was my last two dogs. it's the only time i felt unwelcome at any dog park i've ever entered. not just here in delco. but in philly, nyc, and/or boston. kent dog park culture is uniquely unfriendly and unwelcoming.

It has multiple levels, platforms, tubes, benches, tables, toys, and water. The parking lot is gigantic and there are trails nearby for walks. Of course poop bags are also available on-site. As with all dog parks, but especially this one because it is so popular, you are going to encounter irresponsible owners and badly behaved dogs. I have seen owners glued to their phones, with headphones in, smoking cigarettes and completely ignoring the fact that their dog is either taking a sh!t or acting aggressively. I have seen folks arguing about whether an aggressive dog belongs in the park. And lastly, cars do get robbed. Don't leave valuables in your car! Pay attention and stay engaged, and hopefully you and your pup(s) will have a great time.

They have a smaller side for small dogs and the big dog space is hugeeee. Kinda wish the smaller side was just as interactive. There's a hose/ water fountain on both sides and plenty of balls. Either way, my 20-25lbs pups enjoyed both sides and were tired as heck after. The fellow dog owners were fairly friendly and were watching their pups. I'm sure there are a few who aren't as attentive but luckily I didn't run into those folks. This will be our dog park from here forward.

I've also brought the toddler over to play around a bit in the morning, and it's been a fun spot to check out. The playground has a small kid area, which I appreciate. The exercise equipment is in two separate spots in the park (that I'm aware of), which makes for a nice workout - run to the one by the baseball fields, do some exercise, then run back around to the one near the memorial and do some exercises and stretches there. It's closer to home than the longer route I usually run, so I like doing this shorter route with some additional workouts if I'm a little more crunched on time in the morning.
