The project I had done started a couple months back when I was researching pricing on having concrete poured from the back to the front yard, with a pad to store my garbage cans and any other items on the side of the house, as well as stone edging that matched the front of the house to go along the perimeter of the sidewalk. I had an estimated range of pricing I would be happy with for the amount of concrete and the overall scope of work to be done. Several contractors came out to give me quotes but Daniel was the only one who showed up at the time we had scheduled, which is very much appreciated. We talked about the scope of work, materials required and the timeframe for getting everything done. The pricing for the project was within the range I had researched before so I decided to go ahead and sign on with Daniel for the job. The concrete pour was a single day job. Daniel and his crew showed up in the morning to get all the prep work done and were very accommodating to some of the minor changes that I wanted to implement to the final design. Once that was done it was time to pour, which went about as smoothly as it could've gone. Finally we got the materials required to have the stonework done for the edging on the sidewalk. The materials were delivered to the house the day before and Daniel was again on time the next day to get the project done. We again talked about a couple minor changes to the final design (part of which was suggested by one of his crew) and this was another single day job. Daniel was able to come by the house and clean up everything from the project before I started getting issues from my lovely HOA. Again, overall Daniel did an amazing job, I'm particular about the work done on my house and he was very accommodating with any changes or issues I had. My wife and I had been looking for several years to have the driveway replaced. We could never find a company to perform the work either because it was "too" small of a job or they had questionable review ratings. I will not spend money if there is any question whether the job will not be completed successfully to my standards. I grew up working summers for my uncle's construction company. I am also an engineer. I can tell if work has been "gun decked"; a naval term for cutting corners. I will do without rather than take on new problems. I noticed my neighbor was in the process of having his driveway replaced. Viewing the installation impressed me. The driveway had been removed. The crew had already laid the sand foundation and were tying the rebar into place. It was evident to me they had the skills and knowledge to perform their jobs correctly since it was the way I had been taught. I spoke with the crew about the tasks they were performing and why they were doing it a certain way. Texas clay is the worst ground you can build on. I grew up in Michigan where there is excellent topsoil that is anywhere from 9 to 24 inches deep. Construction methods are different here due to the poor soil conditions. The crew were friendly during my interactions and then provided me their company name. I went home and began investigating the company for reviews, complaints, and BBB ratings. Next step was to call the company for a consultation. John the owner immediately returned my call and was over my house the next day to discuss my construction requirements. With my due diligence completed I provided all information to my wife for discussion. She spoke with John herself, and a date was set to replace our driveway the following week. Patio Doctor handled all of Plano's permits and inspections. All activities, from getting paperwork approved by the city to the completion of work were seamless to me. I did not participate in any conversations regarding issues that occurred. Patio Doctor took responsibility for them; they sought solutions and implemented them. This is a task for which they get paid. They delivered outstandingly. Our driveway has been completed, and we are elated with the work performed. Due to the relationship, we have built with John, we have approved of an agreement to have his company install a custom-built carport next spring. Our neighbor had one installed recently, and it is stunning in its design and craftmanship. We look forward to our installation. Patio Doctor is a company that is fair and equitable in its business practices; engage them. You owe it to yourself to include them in your due diligence for having construction work performed. One more metric can be a game changer in your decision-making process. I will add that laying cement requires true craftmanship. There are so many variables that need to be formulated for it to be installed correctly. This is the reason you need a "seasoned" expert. These installations are too expensive for subpar work. From start to finish, they walked me through what was needed financially and the day of the repair. The guys were awesome! I had 17 piers done and it required them to remove and replace bushes, drill into concrete, and even put a pier in the middle of my bedroom! I know that sounds like a lot.
