Great selection of beautiful tropical plants! We stopped by and were immediately impressed. Each plants looks well taken care of and is marked according to how much light is needed (which helps newbies like myself). We came home with a wide array of new plants, fingers crossed I can keep them alive! I passed by this area many times passing by Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden and Valley of the Temples and never realized this beautiful plant nursery existed! I came across this shop as a recommendation from my sister as I was trying to find my mom an orchid plant for Mother's Day/ her birthday. I visited various stores in Kailua and were disappointed in the health of the orchid plants. She noticed a tag on one of the plants that said it was from Koolau Farmers and suggested I drive directly there to take a peak. And I'm so glad I did! I was pleasantly surprised the the beautiful backdrop in the back of the shop that overlooked the abundance of vibrant flowers they sold, as well as the beautiful Koolau Mountain range and clear blue skies! They had many beautiful arrangements and plants available for purchase as well as plastic/ceramic pots. I picked out the perfect orchid plant for my mom. I drove 30minutes to get there from the West side because I got a $250 gift card. I shopped around and found the items I needed. Although most of the items were on average $2 more than I've found elsewhere, I went ahead and placed them in my cart. When I was checking out, the clerk said my card wouldn't scan. He then took it to his manager. When he came back, he said the card was old and can't use it. And would only give me a $50 credit for a $250 gift card! I was shocked and very disappointed. He went back to his manager. This time the manager came out and said that the company had changed hands and would not honor the gift card even though I had the purchase receipt with it. In the end, they decided to only give me a $100 credit, not even enough to cover the purchase. I am very disappointed and felt cheated. I will not come back. It's not worth the 1hr drive! Started out this morning on a drive to Kapolei because I needed to pick up an order at the Kapolei Target . Putting Ms Sofie in the car I decided to start at Kapolei Costco Gas Station, hit Home Depot because I needed an Italian Parsley starter (only Cilantro available) then Target getting all my errands done. Well, as noted Home Depot didn't have my starter so since I was going to Safeway I figured I'd just run into PC Home Depot...nope, nada but the associate did check and advised not available until mid May! Ok done with the walk ins so called Lowe's to see if they had inventory....sheesh have you ever called this store? No wonder their business is in the toilet. Their AI call system said they had several choices that fit my request and would text what was available. What a joke! I got pictures of four plants none of which were even herbs. Not wanting to wait three weeks for my plants I thought about Koolau Farmers. They're on the corner just past Sofie's Vet in Kaneohe so I called, got a real live associate who said she would put me on hold and go check to make sure. A minute later she came back to tell me they had ample inventory. Rather than waiting until tomorrow I jumped into my car and headed down the hill and onto the H3 freeway. Ten minuted later I was pulling into the parking lot of Koolau Farmers. Wow what a fantastic garden shop this is. I grabbed two of the healthiest Italian Parsley starters I've ever seen. All the starters in the herb section were gorgeous. I wandered around looking at the beautiful plants visualizing them is various spots in my yard. Everything from ferns, flowers, trees, cactus, baby cactus, fresh flowers, herbs, ground cover, fertilizers, iron supplements. The staff is very knowledgeable and so helpful. This is a very local style business and I'll be back. I found a fern I want to buy for a friend and myself. So glad this location has stayed open - Kailua one was recently sold to Mari's Gardens. This location often has "rare" and hard-to-find plants at very reasonable prices ... I purchased a 2' red sealing wax palm for about $40 a couple of years ago. During today's visit they had medium variegated monsteras and small and large hapu'u ferns. They also had poinsettias on sale for half price, including some pink/white ones I hadn't seen before - couldn't resist picking up a hanging basket for $5.99. They also have a wide variety of seeds from UH Manoa and Fukuda Seed Stores - these seeds are bred for Hawaii's climate, and are "fresher" than commercial seeds from the mainland. This place gets busy on weekends and parking is limited so be patient if you're coming at peak times! read more

This location has gorgeous plants and arrangements available for purchase. There is also a wonderful selection of orchids too. Prices are usually listed though you do need to pay attention if it's by the stalk. While card appears to be accepted from what we could see cash is highly preferred and it makes the process a whole lot faster. So don't forget to bring cash with you on your visit. My sister in law had a dentist appointment in Kaneohe so we were early so decided to kill time at Koolau farms and plants . Very nice and clean spacious plant farm lots of variety to choose from . Anywhere from vegetables, Orchids, grass, and lemon tree, Mango tree and more cannot list them all. Even nice graveyard flowers. Customer service is very knowledgeable and friendly the person who help us explain how to plant and how to prune the tree. He also brought the tree to our car. If anyone is looking for any plant or fruit trees this place is where you want to go. We purchased a Meyer tree which is a cross breed of a lemon and a mandarin. I've been here a few times over the years, including today. While I typically get all my fruit trees from Frankie's Nursery, I tend to come to Koolau Farmers for papaya trees. Today I picked up two papaya trees--- although technically eat pot contains 3 trees which improves my chances for success. I also bought a bag of potting soil and a beautiful succulent for my mom. I love this place for how small and quaint it is compared to the nurseries in Waiamanalo and the small plant selections at Home Depot. I've also had more success with the papaya trees here as compared to Home Depot. My mom commented that the large succulent I bought her would've cost twice as much as Home Depot. One of my favorite plant nurseries to visit and shop. I should get a frequent visitors reward card as my husband and I go there several times a month, even if we live on the other side of the island. What I appreciate is that the plants are very healthy. Sometimes when you go to the big box nurseries, the plants are questionable. I have to go so often because the weather and climate is so different where I live, so the plants have a difficult time acclimating. So, I have to buy replacements and try again in different areas of the yard. Though, they may not have the same plants in stock. The employees are very friendly and willing to make suggestions. Okay, why didn't I think of them FIRST. They were open early, they have a plentiful supply of floral options. For those of you with loved ones across the way and waiting for memorial vases to be installed, they have temporary plastic ones, already filled with local fresh cut flowers. Talk about convenient! You can even get some poi (at the right time), sausages, kadomatsu (seasonal) and cold beverages! I've never seen arrangements for gravesites before, but they have them here at Ko'olau Farmers! The pointed ends of the plastic containers are ready to be inserted into the ground! These attractive grave bouquets make sense since Hawaiian Memorial Cemetery is nearby! After you park in the free lot, check out the greenhouse on the left and the patio that's straight back from the entrance. Wow... this store is big so everyone can find something! One year, I got some Easter lilies for my church. They were healthy and sturdy! This time, I was looking for a plant for my clerk's office. I couldn't decide because there are so many options. I think I will return and get an orchid. It's an air plant, so it's low maintenance. We'll just have to spray it with water a couple of times a week! Plants have calming effects and are our friends. Fantastic jewel of a shop containing all thing horticulturally Hawaiian! I echo the words of many previous reviewers who exclaimed theme and variations on "wow wish I came here before ". We absolutely basked in the warm welcoming atmosphere, the sincere aloha o kokua offered by the experienced, knowledgeable and approachable staff! (So different from other larger mainland chain stores where getting a sales associate to assist you is like trying to find a lost sock on laundry day.) We were looking for pots, lava cinders, and assistance with tips on how to grow certain native species that had miraculously survived my best attempts to root them from seed. We found everything we needed and more. Had the most wonderful conversation with a truly erudite staff member who gave us such helpful growing tips and information that we came away awed, grateful, and full of renewed confidence in our native agricultural projects. Prices are so much reasonable here and the selection is excellent. So many different species of orchids, bird of paradise varieties, and leis too. Aisles and walkways are spacious so as to give the atmosphere and shopping experience a non-rushed, uncrowded feel. Add the superb customer service and you have a winner! Just every time we need indoor plant for our cozy tiki nest we ended up getting in here! Grateful for nurseries like this. ~ For us bandits, this location is the best place to grab your green friends for indoor or outdoor. Other best things in here is that, they will really explain it to you on how a certain plant that you want to buy should be taken care of and few hacks to make the plants live longer. I was so happy to see local plants and seeds that I was tempted to get something for myself too, but I remembered everything I touch dies lol. This store reminds me of the old Garden House that to be in town on Beretania street. The parking lot is small. There is no air condition in the store so it can be very warm and hot on a hot and humid day. You enter the store and the staff doesn't acknowledge you. Sometimes you are at the cash out area and no one is around. Customer service here isn't great. They do have a good assortment of flowers for the grave which is located right when you enter the store, and this is what I came for. These flowers (mums and other assortments are sold at 7.99 a bunch). When you can't make it to Sams or Costco, this is a place to go to! And they even offer to cut the stems for you ~ free of charge! read more
