Went back recently for customer appreciation. Had boiled lobster, chowda and corn for lunch. Got lobster roll to go for supper. Yum. Claw meat not bits and pieces. Took my daughter there this week. I had clam plate with rings, she had the clam strips. I could barely finish the clams saved some rings to have with burgers at supper. My daughter ate half her order and had leftover for lunch next day. The Mrs heated in her New Wave oven and strips tasted as good as when they came out of the kitchen. read more

I go by this place a lot when visiting family and friends. I finally decided to stop and see what it was like. It is not the easiest place to pull in and out of, the road can be busy and 2 lanes in each direction. Then once off the road people just pull up where they want so it is a little tough to navigate the parking lot. but I will not rate the place on that. As I approached the line at the window on a very cool May day I thought the crowds could be a good sign. but as I waited and looked around there was trash clearly visible all over the place. Then as I got closer to the window it also was not quite as clean as a food service establishment should be. The food prices seemed reasonable, with the exception of drinks. Small cups lots of ice and little drink for an average price. The food was very average for the area. They put a small paper mat on the tray but then the food overflows onto the tray, but I doubt it was really clean so I didn't trust anything that had touched the tray. Because it was cool I was going to sit on the "patio". There was only one group in there. Every table was dirty. The floor looks like it was last washed on opening day if that even. The fans on the wall were still full of many years of built up filth. So I then went out to the pick nick tables. For a cool day with just a fair crowd again the place was trashy and dirty. There were some people having ice cream there but all the tables were sticky and dirty and there were forks and trash on the ground everywhere around the tables. The outdoor seating is also between a construction site and the parking lot and you hear the road, the cars in the parking lot and you smell gas and exhaust. When I went to leave the trash barrels were overflowing, and like everything else stick and dirty. This entire place needs to be hosed down with some good hot water and all the trash picked up but even then it's just your average roadside takeout. read more

Order taking still blows, such a simple fix, I think they just do it to keep business at a certain level. Food came out fast though. Lobster roll was good, on a New England hot dog bun, buttered and grilled, light on the mayo and pretty decent portion. I want to try the ice cream and shrimp mozambique sode day but after lobster, fries and clamcakes, there was no room. read more

Been coming here for years. Typical clam shack- mostly fried seafood and burgers/dogs. Food is pretty good, lines are usually long. Ice cream, I believe, is Richardsons and delicious. Prices are fair- and I love that they have a kiddie sized cone for under $2. Portions are large. Cleanliness is questionable- trash cans reeked and were overflowing. Eating area sticky and clearly ignored by staff. Bathrooms were gross and tiny. Really hope the employees are washing their hands elsewhere. My biggest complaint is that for a family-geared place- there is no restroom area with a changing table. I had to change my baby on the floor of the tiny restroom hallway. Even men walking by me apologized to me and said they were horrified that there was no space provided by the restaurant to do this! Very disappointing. I love it. I love, love, love it. It's a throwback to my childhood because nothing has changed since I was a kid. The food is delicious, and ice cream is yummy, the staff is friendly and I wish I lived closer so I could go more often. The seafood is a little pricey but no more than you would pay anywhere else. They will pack up your food to go, to your car, or to the patio. Everything is always delicious, you really can't go wrong!! read more

Just stay home or find somewhere else. My husband said the stuffed clams were good but that's all we could say. The iced coffee, while brewed there, must have been sitting in the same pitcher for a week. We got our order confused but there was too much of a line. The clam chowder was repulsive, the bathrooms are quaint (by quaint I mean tiny with a shared sink outside of them), and they confused part of order with someone else's (plain French fries vs cheese and jalapeño). When we went to throw out our food cartons the trash cans must not have been changed for hours as there were stacks of half-finished entrees on the ground from other disappointed customers. On our way out someone was complaining about something they found in their coleslaw! And good luck with their unpaved parking lot. read more

Normally great food, but tonight blah, a waste to $44.00. Seafood platter was ample but use to have more than 1 oyster and med size scallops portion was good. My complaint lies with everything was over cooked, shrimp tough and flavorless, clam bellies were dry and scllops gritty. :( We use to go there several times a summer, but for the past 3 years the quality has been going down. read more

Kool Kone definitely has the right location and considering the only other place in town to get ice cream (Perry's) sucks and Friendly's is gone they have a good thing going on! Their food is decently priced but out of this world or great fried food, not sure. I absolutely eat it at least once a month in the summer! If you get those value paks in the mail with coupons 75% of the time is a coupon for Kool Kone. The ladies at work love it but maybe growing up on it I'm indifferent. Still when you have a craving it's great! I love the butterscotch dipped hard shell soft serve! Also the only place I've seen with coffee soft serve! Would I go back? Absolutely! Would I go weekly? I visited Kool Kone last nite for my family. I was not overly impressed at all. We ordered a seafood platter, which was very skimpy, lacked fried clams and shrimp. It was $23. We also ordered a fried clam plate and an order of onion rings - $48 - talk about pricey. I would have gone to somewhere to have some one wait on me. The fried clams were good, but not worth it. I've been going to the Kool Kone for years. Great burger, fried fish, ice-cream place. Can get busy during peak times but the lines move along. In the summer I try to get at least a weekly trip for a vanilla soft-serve with the peanut crunch. Typical large servings so beware. It's right across from the Gateway Tavern so we often walk across the street from there for dessert. read more

I ate here today with my mother and uncle. They have appetizers, plus a lot of seafood dishes,dinner plates, sandwiches like hamburgers, chicken sandwiches, and yes, ice cream for dessert. When we got arrived, we saw that there was quite a line, so we had to wait a while to order. FYI, they have two sets of windows to order at, some for ice cream only, and others for hot food. You get assigned a number, and when the food is ready, that number is called out over a loudspeaker. My mother got a hamburger, my uncle ordered a fried fish sandwich with tartar sauce, and I got a crispy fried buffalo chicken sandwich (with a side of pickles). We split a medium sized order of french fries. To drink, my mother and uncle each got a raspberry-lime rickey, and I drank ice water. Rather than eat on the bench outside (since it was rather warm), or eat in the car, we decided to enjoy our meals in the air conditioned indoor patio. Luckily, we sat at the table with the air conditioner directly overhead, so we were extra cool (depending on who you ask! HA!) while we were eating. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals. I didn't see how much the food cost, because my uncle insisted on picking up the tab for this one. This place is worth returning to. Plus, they're open 7 days a week, year-round. read more

Drove 45 minutes because of Phantom Gourmet review! Decided on platter for myself and my wife. Out it came over flowing as desribed with scallop pieces not scallops, 31-40 count pre cooked then battered shrimp not the 12- 15 count as seen in the video , random clams and fish that was more batter than fish. Yes you got a large portion but uneatable. It is amazing how many restaurants flourish because there customers have no clue how food should taste! read more

Delicious, fresh, fried New England seafood. Chowders are excellent, very good "stuffie" stuffed Quaohog (Linguica in there) though I would prefer if it had a little "crisp" from being heated in the oven instead of 60 seconds in the microwave. This is the greats place around from seafood! I've lived down the street and have stopped in many a day, I love the quality and potion size. My order is Fired Fish, Whole Clams and Clam Cakes, sometimes Onion Rings! The batter is great, Seafood is always Fresh! Also, do a great Lobster Roll, really meaty and HUGH! Prices are better than most, considering that seafood prices have gone crazy! Also, ask if they have any coupons, they usually have a few laying around. They do soft serve ice cream, which I'm not into, but the kids will enjoy it! Oh, and I shouldn't tell you outsiders!! :)) But you can call ahead and place your order! It is the best way to beat the summer crowds and believe me this place is always crowded! Just wish they were opened year round, dare winters! The only other (Once Best Place) around is Gene's In Fairhaven. Always was the best, though much more pricier! But to be honest the last time I went, I was not impressed at all. The fish was fine, though the whole clams lacked body, they seemed washed out, if that's a proper description! Sadly the worst were the clam cakes, cutting back on clam pieces and juice for flavor, left them more like fried balls of dough! They use to be the BEST, Grew up going to the Fairhaven Drive-In and making the walk at intermission, great memories! One more place to consider, if in the area is Costa's. It is in New Bedford on Cove Rd. in the South-End. It's a Fish Market next door to the Hess Gas Station. The have a small take out kitchen and do a really great job, all fresh seafood! Going the other way, toward the Cape the only other place is Barnacle Bills! It's a small place on the left, just before the (WAY OVER PRICED,) Lobster Pot! We love Kool Kone. Great food and ice cream for everybody. There is always a line but it moves pretty quickly... I would highly recommend "Graham central station" ice cream with chocolate dip on it. The owner is a great guy who is always doing things for the community. He also treats his employees very well. Kool Kone has a huge menu and pretty much something for everyone. As a long time customer of Kool Kone I can easily say that it has turned to complete crap. The ice cream is probably the cheapest and most disappointing I've had at Kool Kone, the sizes of the ice cream has decreased dramatically over the years just like the quality of all of the food. If you are looking for overpriced garbage made with Mc Donalds quality ingredients look no further than Kool Kone. My biggest complaint is when I ordered a Frappe it tasted of preservatives, artificial flavour, and was as thin as a tall cup of cold piss, Frappes at Kool Kone have always been so thick that the straw collapses from the amount of force you need to use to suck up the frappe, because they used to use mostly REAL ICE CREAM. These days it appears Kool Kone uses barely any ice cream in frappes and mainly milk which is a complete ripoff. Overall I'd rather cut my own tongue out and eat that, it would be cheaper, and most likely taste better than the crap at Kool Kone. And don't get me started on how dirty the kitchen is, half of my high school worked there and they always told me how disgustingly filthy it was. read more
