The seafood is great and I love the blue plate specials, just wish the burger patties were a bit better quality as they taste like school burgers. I first saw this place on TV and decided I had to try it. The batter is awesome and the tarter sauce homemade. Menu ranges from creative "seasonaly featured" sundaes to seafood and spaghetti. Lots of greasy food from chicken to burgers and fish. Ice cream as well. The parking lot can get busy, and the service was a little slow last July when I was there, but what can you expect from a bunch of 15 year olds with a summer job behind the counter. Everything we ordered was really delicious. Although there was a long line the whole time we spent there, the food came out in a reasonable time. I ordered a chicken sandwich and they ran out of patties so the cook offered to make a fried chicken breast in place. Which was perfect because I prefer real chicken over a frozen patty. Really nice of him to offer. We also ordered a clam strip roll. My only complaint with this was that we assumed it came with fries and it didn't. $11.00 for the clam strip roll and coleslaw. Small fries are $3.50 on the side. The clams were fresh, sweet, a perfect size, and delicious though. My (vegetarian) sister ordered a cheese quesadilla ($4.50) which seems questionable when a grilled cheese is only $2.50. Either way, they are still obviously still reasonable prices. She got an order of cheese fries, the cheese could have been better, tasted more of flour than cheese. We also got a lobster roll which was equally delicious as everything else. On the small size but worth it. We all ordered ice cream drinks on the side and a lime rickey. Kahlua mint frappe, birthday cake frappe, and chocolate freeze. This is a staple eatery in Wareham that seems to do very well for a seasonal business. They are closed in the winter and open in the spring for the summer months. They serve fried food and ice cream, and they have the best frappes around. You stand in line to order and then your order number is called out. They package food for the car, patio, or to-go. The have an enclosed picnic table seating area and an outdoor portion as well. They have one bathroom. The only reason I did not give a fifth star is because at times the lines are so long, and the service therefore is slow. It would behoove this restaurant to know the little legume schedules of the surrounding towns so that they can have more stuff on hand after game nights (as it is a popular place to bring the kiddies and teams). read more

I had not been to this place in about a year and how things have changed. We ordered the clam belly plate. The portions were average however the clams were tasteless, overcooked and very hard. Not fresh like you would expect. We also ordered the scallop plate. They did not seem fresh but rather the frozen type that you would get at Shaws or Stop and Shop. The cole slaw tasted just like mayonaise with no sugary flavor or carrots. We also ordered 2 onion rings and were charged for 2. We only received one but did not notice until we got home. The onion ring portions were scant to say the least. The deep fried pickles were okay and the and the buffalo wrap was fine. Total take out cost $48. Not really worth it. read more

I still like the ice cream and we still go for that. The indoor eating area has been quite dirty the last several times we went. The trash barrels have been over flowing and the tables sticky. The most off-putting item (and this is not specific to Kool Kone) is that they serve the catsup (or ketchup if you prefer) in those plastic squeeze bottles. I have been going to Kool Kone for the last 4 years and I just love it. Their clam cakes are AMAZING! Every time we come here we get an order of the clam cakes, clam strips & scallops. Yes, I know that's a lot of fried food but you know what? They're delicious! You may drive by and think it's a run down little shack with nothing more to offer but some soft serve but you are so wrong! It's a cute little throwback spot with a great variety of both seafood and ice cream. Salads, chili, fried pickles, chowder, clam cakes, scallops, whole belly clams, clam strips, chicken wings, there really is so much to choose from. They also have a great selection of ice cream from soft serve, to banana splits, to fudge sundaes to frappes and more. Kool Kone has been a roadside staple for decades and I have been a big fan. New ownership has kept up the tradition of providing generous portions of ice cream and roadside fare but lately I think they've bitten off more than they can chew. Way too many food options leading to confusion and inaccuracies. They've also altered the physical space in front of the windows, creating a herd-like arrangement which adds confusion to ordering and fetching food and ice cream. Otherwise, it's still a popular spot. Just be patient when ordering and vigilant when picking up your order. read more

Dropped by kool kone after a day in the mid-cape area. We tried the fried oyster plate, the clam cakes, crab roll and shrimp mozambique. As a warning to everyone, the crab roll was absolutely disgusting. Not only did it smell like rotten crab, the taste was completely vile. Thinking about it now makes me sick to my stomach.... Everything else was pretty good. Ice cream cones are huge...but typical of the cape. I think the crab roll ruined it for me though. They should not be selling something so disgusting. read more

Just what I expect from a New England clam shack! Had lunch here with a friend before heading back to Boston after a weekend in nearby Marion. I had fried clams on a roll which satisfied my craving for fried clams. My companion had a lobster roll and commented that it wasn't heavy on the mayo. I finished my lunch with one of the no-sugar added ice creams (raspberry)...it was very sweet to me so I can't imagine how much sweeter it would be with added sugar. One: the "ambience:" Based on the Yelp reviews, this place appears to be a sacred local summertime spot. Based on my visits here (and yes, there will be more), this place is a terrific throwback, and appears to have not been updated since the days of shag carpeting and Starsky & Hutch. This may be why so many people get their orders "to car," meaning, they order, and then sit in their car and eat. Two: the food It's fine. Three: the ice cream Nice variety, good flavor, lots of optional added cost add-on items. Four: the kids who work there Pretty much what one should expect. Polite enough, and young. Five: the mini-golf Basic course that fills a need as there's not another one right nearby. It's fine, but not well maintained, and the course has other people's trash (like from the restaurant), and the holes themselves have tree debris. Two things that the person working the shed should take care of instead of just sitting in the aforementioned shed. Conclusion: It's fine, and the locals seem to love it, so maybe give it a try? read more

I haven't been back in almost three years, but I grew up in this area eating here and dreaming about it when I moved away. So dissapointing to come back and fine that the big, sweet juicy fried oysters had been replaced with these smaller ones. It threw off the breading to oyster ratio terribly. Best local ice cream and food. I have been coming here for years, the cherry dip is the best for miles and the ice cream isn't watered down and doesn't have ice crystals in it like Perry's!
