Saw Sydney for a haircut and she was amazing! She asked great questions about how I wear my hair normally, what I use on it, and took the cut slowly. I have my hair dry cut most of the time, and after age showed me how to get those beachy waves. They also gave me a bag with samples of their products and a few other goodies. Including a Chocolate that became a late night snack. Front desk is nice and the flowers are from Bloom in Rockbrook, one of my fav florists. I needed to find a new stylist. I looked at reviews and called Kontempo for an appointment. I was set up with Madison and didn't know much about her. I had an excellent visit. The salon is modern, clean, and quiet. The receptionist was friendly and professional. Madison did everything just as I asked for her to. As I was going to someone for the first time, as well as going on vacation soon, it wasn't the time to try anything new. I was very happy that she did everything I wanted and there were no surprises (like, hey-where did this ill-placed layer come from?). She used Goldwell color, which I love. She also was very thorough in shampooing the color out and worked in some scalp massage so it was very relaxing. I will be coming back to Madison at Kontempo. read more

here's the full story on what happened: i called, said i wanted basic highlight foiling. came in and my lady was 30 mins late, and had another appointment after me that she couldn't and wouldn't push back. anyways, showed my hair dresser my ideal outcome. i even asked "is this possible". she said yes absolutely. nothing further was disclosed. not a "this will take longer" "i don't have to time to do this all today". so i'm listening to this trained professional tell me she can do it. before she begins on my hair, she goes "im going to spray this in your hair, it'll protect your hair from bleach" im like okay whatever she's just telling me what's she putting in my hair. she sprays my hair idk 10 times - come to find out at the end that it was a hair TReAtMeNt for $40. puh-lease. then she starts highlighting my hair and the technique is looking good, whatever. she leaves in the middle of highlighting my hair to help another employee cut someone's hair. I'm just sitting there waiting and she comes back and i think this is how my head ended up with two different colors cuz she came back and started working on the other side. then we are at the shampoo bowl and she mentions this concern "oh the highlighting is off" i'm like whatever she's being picky like it can't be that bad. she leaves me while shampooing to start on her other client too. then after i get washed, im just sitting in the chair waiting for my lady to do my hair while her assistant is washing another employees hair. not another client, another employee. then the assistant finally starts blowing drying my hair and that's when i start to see this. i'm so beyond upset i want to cry. i just ask the assistant to stop and i leave with SOAKING WET HAIR. as im checking out i see the total read "$290". i say i got the price offline and made sure i booked for the foil works priced at $150. they said the TrEaTmEnT i received was $40. and that this hair appointment changed from foils to custom color. CUSTOM COLOR!? i do not remember requesting my hair to be two different colors!?! so just a fun recap: 1.) lady was 30 mins late to start my appointment 2) lady sprayed a $40 treatment in my hair, never asked if i was okay with being charged that. 3.) lady then leaves me to help another employee cut her clients hair 4.) brings me to the shampoo bowl and brings up how my highlights look funky!!! 5.) leaves me at the shampoo bowl with her assistant to help her next 6.) the assistant leaves me to shampoo another employee!!! 7.) assistant starts drying my hair and i start crying that i just wanna pay 8.) total was $290 PLEASE SEE THE PHOTO yes, they took off some money, i was still charged $212. oh and yes the lady who messed up my hair offered to fix it..... why would i ever want you near my hair again. genuinely. read more

I saw this place when I eat at a burger place next to it. Decided to give it a try after reading the reviews on Yelp (which don't really help since it's bern awhile) and reviewing their website. The place is clean and neat with modern casual decor. They also implementing the new covid-19 social distancing rules which makes you feel safe during the service. I decided to go with Rae Ann for a haircut and coloring. It's pretty easy to set up an appointment (which you can do via their website or call the number). Our first appointment was just about what I'm looking for and the services I'll be needing. Rae Ann listens to all my concerns and gives inputs as well as recommendations when needed. She also explained the process that goes into my hair coloring as well as how to maintain it. I love the end result and the cost for both haircut & color (I go with balayage) is reasonable too. Told this is the best places in town. Unfortunately the owner is not taking new clients. I was scheduled with Patrick. I stated that I think I want to grow my bangs out.. he stated bangs are in! I agreed to a slight reshaping. Asked for highlights was told I should get low lights too. Came in with warm honey blonde hair - needed highlights. Left with grey/brown tone and very short bangs. I actually told him to stop cutting the bangs! Reluctantly one more clip.. My colleagues asked why I would go such an unflattering color and so short. My friends kindly ask if I like it? Of course not, it is green/gray. *Another salon in town is working on the color. It's going to be a process going back to blonde. I am devastated and very sad. Lesson - if you can't see the stylist you want don't assume everyone is held to the same standard. Don't expect a 19 year old who has been cutting hair two months to be trained to listen and care about your goal. The time for my hair to grow out and the cost to fix the color is substantial. A chic saloon in the heart of Omaha. Easy to get too with plenty of parking. The minute you walk in you are greeted with a smile and pleasant conversation. I was able to visit Kontempo hair salon this week. The salon is beautiful, modern, contemporary, and very inviting. When I walked in I was greeted by a very friendly receptionist!! My appointment was with Maria, for a color and cut. My hair wasn't the exact color that I wanted, and my hair was a bit of a mess. Maria listened to everything I had to say and came up with a beautiful and natural looking highlight color for my hair. She then cut my hair in a cute and modern cut, that fits my face perfectly!!! The massage chair and heated towels are such a nice bonus! The stylists are all very friendly and they all said hello to me. The owner, Kirby, came over to introduce himself, see how I was and chat for a few minutes. I left there loving my new hair! I would definitely recommend Kontempo to everyone I know. Kontempo is a refreshing find to get my hairs did. But no seriously.. this place is a breathe of fresh air as soon as you walk in. The waiting area is spacious and comfortable and you will be greeted by a pleasant, smiling, attractive person. The salon behind the waiting room is maze-like but not in a negative sense. Every inch of the place is used extremely well while maintaining a high level of comfortability. A lot of salons go for the chic, modern approach in terms of decor. However, most fail horribly and make it obvious they shopped exclusively at Gordmans or TJ Max. I should also note that while the salon as well as staff is eye candy, there is not a drop of pretentious attitude to be found. This is also a welcome nuance I am unfamiliar with in most salons I have frequented. My stylist was Aynsley and she was excellent. She could tell exactly what I was going for without an in depth explanation... which put my nerves at ease. With my wavy Italian hair I have had a lot of hair stylists that would have been better off just shaving my head than accomplishing what I was hoping for. She did not wash, nor condition my hair immediately.. which I appreciated. I did not have a lot of product in (I try not to when going in for a hair cut) so water was just fine for the initial cut. It was after the cut was finished that the shampoo and conditioning happened which I was thankful for because I hate the feeling of having a million hairs all over me. Also, I have never been to a salon with massaging shampoo chairs. I did NOT want to get up. It was an awesome touch I have not seen in a salon. Also the large lamp in front of the chairs is trippy-cool and will keep your attention. Unless I am just a huge weirdo... Aynsley is an excellent conversationalist. A lot of stylist ask the same stock questions that become very boring, stale, forced and make me wish I had some kind of illegal substance to get me through the next 20-30 minutes of my life. This was not the case at all. Keep in mind I just moved here from New York City so this review is also based off of those experiences as well. I have gotten my hair cut all over Manhattan because I could not find a stylist that gave me what I wanted ( I am a picky b**** after all ). The best part of this salon is the amazing affordability. A salon with this level of service will easily cost you a BARE minimum of $60+ without tip in NYC and I payed a fraction of that price. I am putting Moderate in terms of Affordability just because I know women's services are always more expensive than men and I have no idea what the market is in the Midwest. However, personally I would put Inexpensive. I know we are in Omaha, but do yourself a favor and get a real salon experience. You will be back.. I know I will be. read more

When I first came to the salon over 2 years ago, due to health issues, my hair was damaged. The staff has worked with me on transforming to healthy, luxurious hair, with the right products and care. I went in to Kontempo to Amy Todd for a simple hair cut with light layers. I had pictures with me to make sure we were on the same page of what I wanted. She ended up chopping my hair up so terribly that, after consulting with two reputable hair stylists, I will have to wait at least 6 months before they can even begin to try and fix the mess Amy created. There is literally a three inch drop off between the sides and the back of my hair. I went into the appointment thinking Kontempo had a good reputation in the area. However, after having to consult with the other hair stylists about my chopped up hair, I learned that they in fact have a bad reputation among the Omaha cosmetology community.
