First timer here and my personal experience was great. Sat at the bar and the sushi chef's were so helpful and friendly. They gave me a few things (some not pictured) to try on the house. One of them pictured was a tuna/shrimp crisp creation. It was yummy and this would be a good appetizer. Ordered: Hamachi crudo for an appetizer. Can never go wrong with this one however beware the Serrano peppers are spicy! I ordered the devil dice roll (bottom) and the hot tuna roll (top). Both were good rolls but the jalapeños were spicy so keep that in mind. I'd say the hot tuna roll was my favorite as the jalapeños were fried and that provided a nice crunch texture to the roll. read more

An average chain sushi restaurant at more upscale prices than the food warrants, especially if looking for standard nigiri and sashimi. We got gyoza and spring rolls to start which were good. The specialty rolls were good mixes of taste and texture. The $30 sushi and sashimi combo however was disappointing. The fish was tasteless and not as fresh as I expected as were the tiny spicy tuna roll pieces. We finished with unagi nigiri and that was disappointing too from a taste standpoint even when overpowered by a sauce. The service was good, we sat at the bar but there seemed not to be a "Bartender" just a server covering both the bar and tables, he was very friendly but lacked the sense of urgency, just sorta rolled with everything. We sat a few times with out beverages or lack of attention (slow to take order, dirty dishware, ect. ). I have been coming here for a bit, but a few small things bother me that kept me from writing the review. You know when you're just rooting for something and you're on the cusp just hoping for that Simone Biles killer routine..... Well, I decided to bite the bullet and write it already, because the things that have bothered me are still present. One of my biggest things, is consistency. Any food I had here tasted wonderful, outside of getting the filet mignon roll. The steak somehow was fatty. The only thing I can rationalize is it wasn't filet, because that slices like butter! With the consistency part being stated, the dishes I get outside of the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice literally look different every time. The first time I had the Sleeping Beauty Roll it was out of this world. Over flowing with strawberries (I know that sounds weird, but it oddly tasted good), cucumber, and avocado on top of the roll. Every time after that, it was sad and small looking. It still tasted good, but that set the bar high and the dish looks different every time I get it never living up to my first experience. Then there's the service. Same thing. I've had times where we haven't had refills, been asked how our food is or if we need anything, brought extra napkins, etc. We've had servers just leave us at the table and we've had to get up and ask for the check, and times where we don't. I don't love to be rushed, but there is a balance with quality service/being checked on and also not pushing someone out the door. The women's restroom consists of two stalls. One of which the lock doesn't work, and I have been coming here for about a year and a half. How has the door not been fixed yet?! Lol. Ahhhhh! The temperature inside has also been uncomfortably freezing cold at times. That one is a toughie. Bring a sweater if you can just in case. Before I initially came here, I was on the fence because of the reviews I had read. I always check between Yelp and Google Maps because not everyone uses the other and it gives me more perspective. One of the things someone mentioned, was how a lot of their rolls have cream cheese and that wasn't authentic. I did notice that since it was pointed out, and my husband doesn't do cream cheese. I would just say omit it. In any event, I'm sure if you asked them to make a roll with certain ingredients they would. Another point made, was how the gyoza didn't come with ponzu sauce. Total feels on that one! The spring rolls also came with an unexpected sauce. I will say that although it's not what you'd expect their food is delicious and fresh. Coming from South Florida trying to find good sushi while in upstate (inland) South Carolina is no small feat! Oh the things you take for granted. This has probably been my favorite in Greenville County. The first time I brought my sister here she had a roll that had melted cheese on it baked in the oven. I have no words for that. Ew!!! She loved it. Good for her lol. I can see how this would be weird to most of us. I think they're trying to think outside of the box on a few of these. For the items I have tried, if you like tuna, the Spicy Tuna Crispy Rice is amazing. I have it every time, and it's like a party is occurring with my tastebuds! 10/10! The highway 9 made with soy paper opposed to seaweed is also so good! I do still love the Sleeping Beauty Roll, but I wish it was at the standard I first had it. I don't get it every time now. We've also had the Red Rose Roll which we like. That's Shrimp tempura and spicy mayo inside. Topped with tuna, jalapeño, Sweet chili sauce, eel sauce and spicy mayo. The location is very close to the Reedy Falls and Main Street. There are a few parking spots in front of the Orange Theory for the restaurant that have marked signs. You are able to be parked there for two hours at no charge . There is usually "parking police" as the other spots you have to pay for. If you're able to get street parking and intend on staying longer, maybe do that instead. I hope one day to change this to a 5 star rating because the potential is 100% there! I have been looking for good sushi/Japanese since moving to SC and this missed the mark for me. 90% of their sushi option either came with cream cheese or an imitation crab stick. Not sure why but that's not sushi unless you are only considering beginners and I am hardly a novice but I ordered the black panther because it was one of the few that did not have either. And the sushi was just ok. My husband loves cream cheese in his sushi so of course he had a lot to choose from. He chose the Papa roll and enjoyed it. I ordered the super bowl and my husband ordered the rib-eye bowl. The flavor of his ribeye was really good and if for some reason I found myself back here I would order that. The super bowl... They weren't too spicy, had a generous serving of cream cheese, and crab. The tempura batter was crisp and not greasy. We could have had a plate of them for three meal. Both meals were great. We visited with friends recently. It was good but not great. It's a very different atmosphere than other Japanese restaurants. The place has lots of windows for people-watching and huge booths perfect for families or small groups. The service was good but our sever was not knowledgeable about the menu or sake. I went with the Mio cold, sparkling sake which was good. I ordered tuna sashimi but ended up with nigiri - the tuna was very fresh. I also had a dragon roll which was good. Downtown Greenville's newest sushi spot! Located at the former Rick Erwin's Deli. Food - 7 out of 10 Ambiance - 8 out of 10 Service - 6 out of 10 My husband and I came here for lunch since it was the newest/hottest spot in dtgvl for sushi and the few people I've seen post about it have said great things about it. We ordered two of their popular rolls, 2 hand rolls, spicy tuna crispy rice and tuna tataki. PLEASE NOTE and double check when you order because the server gave us two menus where the tuna tataki was two different prices so when I ordered, I did point out specifically the slightly lower priced one but when the bill came out the server told me different. So just make sure you confirm with him before ordering cause I feel like they should have honored that price if that is what you are already showing to customers. The tataki was good other than that. The spicy tuna crispy rice was also good as well. The two sushi rolls that we ordered were.. decent. Edible, lets say. Just a little too sweet? For both my husband and I's taste. I think they just drizzled WAY too much sauce over the rolls to make it look aesthetically presentable. Perhaps cut back on that a little and the rolls will make its way up to being a 9. In the attached photos, you will see where I took a photo of our dish ware to eat on.. oh wait. There wasn't any. The server never once asked came to ask us if we were good or brought out any small plates for us to eat our food on. So I used my little sauce tray that they usually give you for soy sauce as my plate. Luckily it is sushi rolls, so it was small bites that could fit on that tiny saucer! I will have to say that I do very much so appreciate how fresh the tuna is here. I speak only for tuna as that is the only sashimi cut I always get. Tonight Leisa and I tried Konnichiwa on Falls Street (just a block north of the Falls Park Drive, across the street from Oobe's HQ). The neighborhood was a dump 30 years ago, but now it's a highly sought-after sliver of Greenville. The restaurant is sparkling clean and the seating is spacious. The view of this refurbished neighborhood is spread out on two sides of the dining room. Konnichiwa is modern with a few touches of a Japanese fishing village. The staff is efficient. Our waitress was quite kind. (I think the host rolled his eyes when we sat and ordered a water and a coke instead of something from the bar. Oh well.) The menu has a good variety of sushi, hibachi, curry, and bento selections. There are also appetizers and salads. I counted five chefs whipping up expert sushi rolls. We shared some egg rolls as an appetizer, (this was an error, see below). Having had homemade egg rolls in high school (thank you Chao family!) I can attest these were very good. If not made on site, they have sourced some pretty good ones! Crisp and light skin, fried a rich brown. The cabbage within was still crisp and tasted fresh. The diced pork had an actual flavor, not the normal "it's meat... right?" Leisa got a chicken bento box that included 2 gyoza (potstickers or fried dumplings), a four piece California roll, rice, and sautéed carrots, onion, broccoli, mushrooms, and zucchini. The portions were large and she enjoyed the variety. She didn't get through half of it. (Lunch tomorrow!!) I got the jumbo shrimp curry bowl. It was large. It was hot. It was creamy. It was fragrant. The jumbo shrimp was... jumbo! You know, like they used to be when there was popcorn shrimp, regular-sized shrimp, and jumbo shrimp. They were prepared perfectly--cooked through, but still firm and tasty. Blended into the curry sauce was a mix of mushrooms, carrots, and broccoli. All the veggies were still firm to crisp. Along with the bowl was a hill of white rice. Not only was it a feast for the tongue, it was presented like a little work of art! I should have stopped two-thirds in. I did not. I should not have ordered the egg rolls, but you know how it goes at some restaurants--for entrées in this price point (north of $15)--you'd be luck to get three shrimp and a sprig of parsley could hide one of them! This bowl was Timm-sized circa my college years when one pizza was a serving size. I powered through my curry. I should have either done without the egg roll or taken half of the curry dish home. The waitress offered to package it up. Why didn't I listen!? Next time you're showing off the jewel of downtown Greenville, Falls Park and the Liberty Bridge, exit the park on the Main Street side, cross over, and take Falls Park Drive northwest a block.
