Very good food, the chilli is not quite as fine as you get in Detroit in a Coney Dog there, but ut was very good. I will go back again.

I know that there's not much to travel to Gary for but, this is one place you might want to. If you like chili cheese burgers, chili cheese dogs or chili cheese fries, this is the place for you! Like the other yelper whose review I read I also used to go there for my lunch break at Lew Wallace H.S.,(back in '93!) and they haven't changed a bit to this day. The foods still great and the place is still clean(considering were talking about a joint in Gary) They still have the dozen special where you get 4 free koney burgers or koney dogs if you buy 8. I also have to agree with another yelper and say you might want to bring your pistol if you go especially at night. read more

The Koney King Restaurant is by far the cleanest, tastiest, and MOST friendliest place in Westland! When the new ownership took over, they took a good restaurant and made it a great restaurant. The service is very friendly, and if there is something that is not on the menu, the owner (Mike) will actually go out to the store and buy the ingredients, to make whatever was not on the menu, for you. I'm dead serious, I saw this unfold with my own eyes. I overheard another customer wanting a specific 'shrimp dish', that was not on the menu, Mike went to the store, bought the ingredients, and made the dish for the customer!! There is no limit to the customer experience one could have at this restaurant. I have really never seen anything like this. Thank you for bringing a restaurant with this level of service, to our great city of Westland. read more

The best chili "Koney" dog hands down. Just like I remember from a long time ago. There's something very special with the koney chili family recipe. You can't find this delicious chili taste from anywhere else. Everyone was very friendly with great service. They do offer credit cards transactions now. I know one Yelper mentioned that they do not. If you're in the area or remember eating at the Koney King from a long time ago it's worth the drive to grab a bite to eat. read more

I went here because of the good reviews. Man I was disappointed. I ordered chili cheese fries. The fries were good but could of been salted a little. The chili was ok but nothing to crave or come back for. The reason im giving one star is because of not getting some real cheese. The guy pulls out 3 slices of american cheese and throws it between the fries. And voila chili cheese fries..hell no thats called being cheap I could of made that at home. yes Gary is a little rougher than when i was a kid and spent the summers at my Grandparents house on Jackson street. yes i always have a pistol on me when i go for take out. yes i always bring home at least 2 dozen chili dogs, because if i didn't, i would not have any from all the people that flock to me when they hear i have some dogs in my possession. they must put crack in them. i think the sign says since 1959. their chili dogs are LEGENDARY. get them "standard" with mustard, and onion. im not sure what is in the chili, or how they make it, but it is the best chili dog you will find ANYWHERE. anywhere. i have been eating here for 32 years? food has not changed. they did have a shop in crown point but it has since closed, even though it always seemed busy. they have been offered tons of money for the chili recipe, trust me i offered too. chili dogs, chili cheeseburgers, ham and cheese. sit and have a pair of chili dogs while you wait for your take out order, get some fries, you will not be disappointed. read more

The neighborhood and next door liquor store leaves a touch to be desired but inside, you feel transported back to the 50s diner counter and the coney dogs taste as good as I am sure they did then.
