This shop was highly recommended to me, and I was in need of gifts and in the neighborhood-ish. Sherri was quite lovely. And the shop was intriguing...I wanted to touch everything and buy all of it. Well curated array. This place is definitely trouble, but I'll be back for serious, many times. read more

It smells great, it looks great, and you can have a fun time just browsing. For creative gift-giving, it's the only choice for miles around, the prices are right, and on top of it all the owner is just a super-nice person. You could even just treat yourself to something fun for no reason, if you were crazy enough... read more

Whenever I need a gift, for any reason, the first place I stop is Komoda. I first met the owner when I lived in the neighborhood. Now, even though I have moved all the way across town, I make the trek regularly. Sherri, our kind owner, has an amazing way of making you feel like you are her favorite customer. She has an unbelievable memory and has helped me choose gifts for most of the members of my family. One time, my husband (who had only been in with me once before) stopped in around Christmas looking for something for me. Sherri not only recognized him, but remembered a necklace I was admiring the last time I was in. Who gives this kind of service any more???? Most items are very well priced and of excellent quality. She carries unique jewelry and even some art made by the locals. Great stationary selection, too. The gifts here are far more special than anything you will ever find in a chain. Kudos. read more

A wonderful store, I love coming here to find gifts for friends. You can find great cards, beautiful jewelry, cool books, and much, much more. Both the store and the owner are delightful. read more

I've been getting the most unique and lovely gifts for myself, my buddies, and the women in my life from Sherri since she founded Komoda on Chicago Ave. and for years and years before when she was a principal of another shop (that is decidedly less fabulous without her). Sherri pours her heart into keeping a collection of remarkable items in a way that I can only describe as curating. In short (not so short), she's been the go-to source for books, plants, dishes, aprons, cards, lotions, soaps, fragrances, corkscrews, wallets, incense, japanese teapots and cups (!), and on and on for people I love every Mother's Day, birthday, Chanukah, and Christmas for a decade. I can't recommend this place enough. And I always treat myself to some gummi bears or Pop Rocks on the way out. Absolutely lovely. read more

I love shopping at Komoda! I used to live in the neighborhood when Sherri worked at RR#1. I now live in Indiana and drive to Komoda for gifts for friends and family. I always find jewelry pieces I cannot live without for myself. When entertaining out of town guests they love shopping at Komoda. I think Sherri's keen eye for finding fabulous goods for everyone and every age is brillant. Sherri makes gift buying a treat. She will even wrap the present for you! read more

Such a sweet store, in a really charming, historic retail space. Really thoughtful, interesting selection of gifts, as well as items you'd use every day. Excellent place to get unusual gifts that you're not going to see anywhere else. Everything from jewelry to soaps/lotions, pocket knives, children's books, air plants, hats/scarves, etc. etc.! It's so unique, and the owner Sherri is so genuine, and sweet. Wandered in here years ago, and and now a regular! read more

I love this store for gifts. There is always something new and interesting. I'm also a huge fan of the Tokyo Milk perfume they carry.

Komoda is seriously the best place ever. If you ever need to find someone a last-minute gift, or you feel like treating yourself to (literally) anything, this is the place to go. I could lose myself in all of the awesome items at Komoda: jewelry, books, stationery, toiletries, accessories, toys, candles. I've bought Christmas cards, jewelry, and many birthday gifts here. The owner is almost always in the shop, and she's so friendly and helpful. read more

I'm sure that Komoda has enough reviews to keep people shopping here for eternity, but I just want to add my recommendation to the pile. I've been coming here about twice a year for 6 years. I do most of my gift buying at Komoda, because it has a little something for everyone, and because everything is well-priced and great quality. Although I don't come in all that often, Sherri always remembers me and takes the time to catch up with me. In such a big city as Chicago, it is hard sometimes to feel a sense of community, but Komoda provides just that. read more

Komoda is an awesome little shop with a vast array of aesthetically pleasing arts, crafts, housewares, oddities, books, greeting cards, gift ideas, incense, candles..you name it! I don't know what the location held before, but the interior has a sort of old-fashioned feel to it, with a modern, bohemian vibe coursing through. I unfortunately decided to first explore the shop just a few months before I moved out of the neighborhood (on Valentine's Day no less), but was very warmly greeted by friendly owner Sherri and her lovely co-worker Liz. I ended up buying some candles and incense that were both of high quality and reasonably priced. I mentioned a book I had recently illustrated, left a copy a few weeks later, and they were kind enough to put it on consignment and sold it within a few weeks! Komoda is a great little business and I highly recommend swinging through and savoring the warm, creative atmosphere and treasure trove of items for perusal and sale. read more

Popped in the other day while waiting for the bus, and returned today to buy a gift for my mom. This place is full of beautiful, interesting gifts at reasonable prices. Totally the most amazing store in Chicago. I was in a panic because I had to be at a baby shower and was running 20 minutes. I went into Komoda for a last-minute purchase and the store owner was the most unbelievably awesome person in the world. You wont find a store like this in all of Chicago land. Sherry ,the owner, is wonderful and carefully hand picks all the items in the store. This shop is the best for buying gifts for others...and yourself :-) . Sherry is very kind and helpful and beautifully gift wraps anything for no extra charge. She has the most unique items and I guarantee, one visit and you will be back for more. If i could i would give Komoda 100 stars out of five..its that great.:-) I have been a die hard customer for four years now and have never had an experience here that was anything less than outstanding. Love it! read more

This store and it's owners are simply lovely. I hardly ever give 5 star reviews but their friendliness is something that is hard to find. I've always had wonderful experiences in the store, looking through a good selection of products, but the owner is SO down to earth that she even smiled and waved hi to me when we'd pass each other in the neighborhood. I've worked my share of retail jobs, and, I'm telling you, you can't find find a better example of human decency OR store management. read more

great, friendly service! very cool stuff! i love knowing no matter what last minute gift i need or just something cool for myself, i can walk around the corner from my house, walk in Komoda and walk out with something unique and totally cool! i love this place, a must stop by (frequently) store! read more

This is a must see gift shop! Not only do they have unique items, the owner is hands on and makes great strides to help with gift ideas. I hit the mother load last holiday season here and found some incredible gifts. I stopped in a few weeks back looking for a specific item, and needed something quickly because I came up with an idea last minute and realized I was missing a basket for the gift's presentation. The owner was so helpful - she ended up finding exactly what I needed (which ended up being a basket she was using). She happily let me have it. I'm not writing this to encourage that she gives items to customers as we all know she has a business to run. This gesture made me a customer for life - not everyone goes out of their way like she did. Highly recommend this wonderful store!! Perfect for the gift you didn't know existed and very likely the person receiving the gift has nothing like it! read more
