I was in Chicago to visit a dear friend, and his family in mid-September. Before returning to NYC, I asked my friend's wife, where I should go to buy things for people back in Manhattan. Without hesitation, she suggested I go to "her favorite store in Chicago". This was exactly the suggestion I wanted, as I wasn't really interested in buying people back home anything. Instead, I intended to find a gift for her, and their amazing young daughter, for welcoming me into their home so graciously.
I headed down to Komoda on a late Monday afternoon. I pored over an array of quality products, and intelligent gift ideas. As usual, I was quickly overwhelmed with trying to find the 'perfect gift', which this situation called for. I soon found myself consulting the sales associate on duty, Linda.
I explained to Linda exactly what brought me into the store, with little expectation that sharing my situation would bring me closer to finding the 'exact gift' that I needed. Linda (who only works once a week-so she's not as familiar with the regulars) was quick to suggest that she call the owner of the store (Sherry), because she 'had a photographic memory' of the stores customers. I agreed. Once Linda had shared some of my description of my friend (and his family) Sherry quickly filled in some blanks, describing their daughter's name, and professions. I was so absolutely surprised by the immediate connection. Sherry made a suggestion (through Linda) from past purchases of my friends wife, which I followed exactly. I also found a couple very cool gifts for the precious youngest lady in the house, including a mind challenging activity book. I even threw in a couple extra things that I didn't come for, likely because I felt so good about the entire experience.
In closing, I can certainly see why this store came so highly recommended. Linda was thorough, kind, sweet, friendly, patient, creative and professional helping me find 'the perfect gift'. Her approach to her job I found highly commendable for an employee who only works once a week. I assume that has a lot to do with the hiring and training procedure (starting from the top down), focused on the right person for the company. I was also absolutely impressed at how in tune with her customers the owner Sherry was. It was easy to see that calling her for this kind of information was not frowned upon, to satisfy their client.
I felt that this was such a respectable, professional, high-class operation and business, that it has led me to leave this (my first) review on Yelp. read more
