Compared to its neighboring establishments, Kojacks offers well seasoned, well portioned meals for far cheaper than all the other tourist traps around Mission Beach & Belmont Park. It's a very hole in the wall type of place and once you come inside, you realize it's truly a no frills establishment where you order, you wait for your food and you eat. Don't expect too much of the extra fluff, you go there to eat and that's what you'll get. There's definitely a bit of a language barrier beyond anything other than ordering from the menu. By no means are they rude, they just aren't there to chit chat. The burger and chicken tenders are a solid two- person combo, comparable to the food you'd get at a Padres game with a little more love. It's cooked right in front of you. No sketchy business in the back. 3/5 cause it's not the type of place you crave or look forward to. It's just one of the more affordable options in walking distance from the shore while all of its other fast food neighbors are abhorrently inflating their prices.

Love love love!! Love me a good chicken souvlaki and this place was it. The workers were the kindest, location right next to the beach, and prices are so fair. There's indoor and outdoor seating as well. My friends got fish and chips & chicken tenders and they enjoyed the meal as well.

There's a small, quietly unassuming establishment nestled just across the broad and breezy street from the kaleidoscopic sprawl of Belmont Park in Mission Beach. It's called Kojak's Greek Euro. a name that feels less like branding and more like the affectionate nickname of a forgotten uncle. And indeed, stepping into Kojak's feels like entering the kind of memory you didn't know you had. The walls are neither aggressively modern nor nostalgically kitsch. Instead, they strike a balance with sun washed posters of Santorini, a faded map of the Mediterranean, a photo of Kojak himself, perhaps that makes you feel as if you've been here before, maybe in a dream, or a childhood road trip you only remember through the scent of grilled meat and the sound of distant carousel music. Now about the food: the gyro is perfect. Impossibly warm and tender shavings of meat wrapped in a pita that's soft but still with a backbone. The tzatziki is a cool and garlicky whisper, the lettuce crisp like a page in an old travel diary. You don't eat it so much as you return to it. The nostalgia isn't just aesthetic, it's alchemical. Every bite feels imbued with summers past, sunburned shoulders, sand in your shoes, laughter echoing across the boardwalk. The taste, while objectively excellent, is elevated by memory. your own, or the one Kojak's gently lends you. Five stars, not because it's the most gourmet place in San Diego, but because it doesn't need to be. It's honest. It's earnest. It's the kind of place where time stops just long enough for you to remember what happiness tasted like at seventeen.

The best gyro I've tasted, ever. Meat is super tasty, with crispy bits that make it super delicious, the salad is fresh and well seasoned, perfectly paired with the toasted pita and the delicious tzatziki. Not to add that the baklava is also made in-house and is one of the best I've had as well, with caramelized sides and toasted to perfection. Thank you so much for your delicious food. P.S. - my picky 4 y.o son almost finished all his gyro meat, and stated "this is the best food in san diego!"

I generally get door dash but I have been in person 1 or 2 times! Great spot in Mission Beach if you are looking for gyro! I always get the gyro plate. Comes with salad, rice, pita and gyro & sauce. Cheese fries are pretty good too! They have lots of food on their menu from pizza to burgers.

We shared a gyro meat and Greek salad. Nice combo of tender and crispy gyro meat. Fresh salad with tasty cucumber, tomatoe, olives, and feta. The tzatziki sauce was good. The pita was warm and soft. We went in after sunset and we were able to sit in a booth. The guy who took our order was friendly and easy going. Perfect after a long walk on the beach.

My friend is a regular at this place and finally I decided to try it for myself. We went here around 9:00 p.m. Sunday night, they close at 10:00. We ordered two breakfast Gyros with a side of fries. Apparently, this is on their secret menu, and I highly recommend it! If you love any type of breakfast foods it's similar to breakfast burrito but with gyro. Jam packed with flavor. Made fresh to order. Also, the fries are perfectly salted, crunchy, and soft. It was a great meal. I live right around the corner, so I definitely will be returning customer.

Something casual by the beach. We had 2 falafel sandwiches, shared large drink and small fries for 25 bucks what a deal! The sandwiches were freshly made. The fries had a nice greek seasoning on it. They were a bit to golden for me, but still good. Thus place is greek owned the baklava looked wonderful, but it was lunch so did not want to gild the lily. It's right next to the beach, Belmont Park and touristy souvenir stores. Would love to try their gyro sometime if in the area.

Every other review I read on here was spot on. The customer service is severely lacking, and the food is equal to what you would get at a golf course grill or someplace like that. We were dying for a nice big hand-patted hamburger and what we got was one of those patties that would be like 20 patties for $3 at Walmart. We were starving so we ate it anyway, and the side salad was actually above par. The cheese fries were really good also, this is the kind of crappy food I can eat when I'm by myself that my wife would never go for. Good thing she wasn't here! read more

Can't give 0 stars or I would. This place has such an advantage of being near the beach, but there is no attempt to consider service, politeness and customer interaction important parts of running a restaurant business. Our orders were taken wrong, my daughters food never came, and when we asked, we were argued with, and she was offered a gyro, when she had originally ordered for a Sandwich. To top this, I find another charge for that gyro on my credit card that I ever approved. read more

If your idea is to spend a day at the beach and you choose to eat here, you might want to plan on a little less time on the beach and a little more time waiting for OK food. Even when there's not a lot of people, they take quite a while to produce moderate food. I got some onion rings- $3.19 with tax for like 8 pieces. The French Fries are flavorless and unappealing, but the meals aren't bad. Service isn't that great- long waits and they got some of our orders wrong. The location is nice and they have good music playing, making the experience a little better. I probably won't be coming back here again, and won't be recommending to friends. read more

My family and I ate here on August 16, 2016, we we're visiting Cali for a funeral and wanted to get our minds off of things by going to the beach and possibly eating some good food. We all ordered hamburgers, fries and soda. The hamburger buns and French fries we're hard like a brick. Our French fries we're cooked in old grease as the fries where on the darker brown side almost burnt and extremely hard. The hamburger meat was not seasoned, the vegetables such as onions and tomatoes place on the burgers we're not fresh. The waiters we're unfriendly and keep talking in their language when we requested that our food be made over. I don't know if we we're treated this way because of the color of our skin or if they we're just having a bad day. But, I would not recommend this place to my worst enemies. read more

The owner is soooo nice! We love Greek food and we're happy to find this place in such a tourist area. The food is great! Got the gyro and chicken plate. We asked to make it spicy for us and they did. He even gave us free water bottles. Made us feel very welcome and comfortable. Would come back for sure! read more

Kojack's is the best Gyro plate I have had in San Diego. They are old school and the quality is excellent. They provide a good amount of food as well. The fries are always super crisp and the view is hard to beat for a $9 plate. Sit outside, gaze at the ocean and dig into the best gyro plate in San Diego. read more

I went here for a weekend lunch with some friends. The Gyro that I received here was dry and bland. It also was not wrapped well and my sandwich kept falling apart. I ordered some fries with my sandwich but they were cold and tasted stale. I paid too much for the quality of food that I received. I am very disappointed and will not be eating here again unless they make some major changes to their food. read more

My daughter and I ate here. She got a hamburger and I opted for the gyro. Her burger came ( a bun and pattie) and I ate my mini gyro, $18 damn dollars! For this crap! I'm never going back and I would discourage anyone else from getting fisted by these shisters. read more

It was a beautiful day at the beach today so I parked down by the roller coaster in MB and checked out the beach. After a walk up and down the boardwalk, I decided to order a Gyro at Kojacks and l wish that I hadn't. The Gyro was OK, but I am not a big fan of the grilled onions that were put on it. I am also sure that the guy at the cash register short changed me $10.00 maybe on accident...not sure, so be careful. :( read more

if i could, i would eat these french fries everyday. they are hot, delicious, well seasoned mmmmm. first time i came here it was outta luck. we were drunk going in & out of wavehouse waiting for LA riots to go on, and obviously were craving fries. we stumbled in here and ordered the plain fries and the chilli cheese fries. omg both were delicious. since then, we have come back here a couple times. what's good? the gyro & the Philly cheesesteak (good is an understatement, the philly cheesesteak was AMAZING) what's not- the pizza! i was so so disappointed when i ordered the pizza, i should have just ordered a large fries. still a fan though, just wish i knew not to waste $4 on the shitty pizza. read more

I don't write a lot of help reviews but this one definitely deserves one. I ordered Gyro and Eggs and let me tell you, I have never tasted a Gyro as awesome as this ever in my life. I ordered a second one after that. My wife is a vegetarian. So she ordered Greek plate and she says that was really good as well. Especially the falafel. We came here again the next day and tried their Baklava. It had nuts, was crunchy and super yum. If you want a very satisfying meal, order gyro and Eggs along with a Baklava. God how I wish there was a joint like this in Seattle read more

Definitely a tourist trap.. Location is only thing helping, it was dirty .. And you could feel it . The gyros weren't anything special, if you've had a real one you'd know..I Was craving a good slice of pizza but unfortunately the pizza and nuggets for the kids were obviously frozen crap.The carnival across probably had better food and the guy was pretty crabby and seemed annoyed to have any business. Should have opted for the pizza place 2 doors down-Nothing good ice cream and a walk along the beach can't fix! read more

I recently returned to Kojacks 10 years after eating there on a weekly basis when I lived on the boardwalk in Mission. Same guys behind the counter, same Greek salad with gyro, same beautful sunset as my wife and I munched out of our styrofoam containers on the boardwalk. This place is a dive that serves surprisingly good Mediterranean food in the touristy part of Mission right by the roller-coaster. It's the best gyros I've had in San Diego, but the fifth star comes from doing it exactly the same after a decade. It's nostalgia for me now. read more

They were kind enough to bring a birthday baklava for us all to share, and they sing happy birthday to me, and I blew out the candle. Georgia and her family were all there to celebrate with me and the service was excellent as usual. Even though it's on a busy street there's lots of green plants that shield you from even being aware that you are on the busy street. Unfortunately, the Owner Mike and the Cook George do not value their longtime customers who keep telling them about the declining conditions and environment at the restaurant located near Belmont Park in Mission Beach. When told about the gang of 20 guys doing drugs who stand in front of the restaurant on a daily basis, they very disrespectfully and rudely turn their face and ignore you. Mike has harassed and called the police on hot dog vendors in the area, but embraces the drug addicts and predators who prey on people in the area as they come into his restaurant to buy a hot dog between committing crimes. There have been 6 shootings in front of his restaurant near Belmont Park in Mission Beach in recent months, and Mike ignores the guys standing there doing drugs in full view of children. It's all about the money with Mike! Today, there were 2 girls standing in the doorway of the restaurant waiting for their order with their arms crossed and giving dirty looks at the customers. They seemed scared, and rightly so due to the riff raff hanging out in front of the restaurant and walking by, but it made for an extremely uncomfortable experience. When I told Mike and George that their customers are scared and glaring at everyone with dirty looks for their protection, Mike & George once again turned their face in the other direction and ignored me. I have been coming here for many years, but the environment inside of his restaurant has become horrible, dangerous, and a grave safety hazard... Mike clearly does not value long time customers who are upstanding citizens. He doesn't care about the declining conditions in front of his restaurant, yet he calls the police on hot dog vendors who are just trying to make a living amid a skyrocketing cost of living in San Diego. He even said, "They're taking away business from me by selling hot dogs to these guys." He treats the gang members, ex-cons, and derelicts like family and nicely dressed upstanding native San Diegans like garbage... His rude and dismissive reaction to legitimate safety concerns demonstrates that he doesn't care about the experience that customers have at his establishment. If you are a tourist and you get stabbed there, then he will probably look the other way... Therefore, I no longer feel comfortable eating at this restaurant. There should be a sign that says, "Eat at Your Own Peril!" The weird defensive behavior from the seemingly "normal" people who drop in on occasion not only make you feel extremely uncomfortable, but it also makes you feel like you're eating in a dark alley after the bars close in PB. The predators are lurking and the girls are paranoid with dirty looks on their faces scowling at everyone around them for protection purposes... NO thank you! read more

Well I will preface this by saying finally after a myriad of I times that I have stated I will create a yelp account after patronizing a place of interest or restaurant, I finally have. So kojacks..wierd name for a greek joint, anyhow its only foreshadowing to how the experience went. Friends from out town were visiting a friend that was working nearby. He recommended the place and he usually doesn't puck around with mediocre dining establishments so I figured the coinflip was an automatic win. We arrived there through a scenery of beautiful blondes in bikinis so that part was amazing. Then kojaks.. the fellows working there were obviously of Mediterranean descent so I my expectations were still good. The homie working the counter seemed cool and was more than happy to take my order for a gyros sandwich fries and a root beer for a healthy 11 bux. I shrugged it off as I was hungry and figured that the 1 or 2 bux extra for thr overhead of th4 location was arbitrary. So onto the food... well we got the order to go and upon finding a place to sit across the way near the roller coaster and all thr other fan fair our other friend that was working nearby quickly noticed thr Styrofoam to go containers were housed in 3 different types of plastic bags. Strange. Now the gyro..it was sub par on all levels. The portion of gyros meat aka lamb was insignificant. It was honestly a 1:1:1 ratio between the meat onions and tomatoes. Ok fine the portion wasnt on point but neither was the taste. Bland at best.. and the pita was stale..the visitors from out of town got falafel s and I certainly didn't hear any raving.. my other compatriot got a Gyros sandwich as well..he asked for extra / a side of tzaziki (sp?) that was non existent. Mid meal I learned the counter guy was a perv but I wont hate on that too much.. also while we were an eating an African American woman waking asked where we got the food. She said "whered u get that jie rose?" My friends obliged and pointed her in the direction of this facade of a restaurant. I said we should have warned her not to go.. I bet she was on tilt too after thinking she was gonna get a decent meal. Oh yea the fries were 100% store bought frozen and they're lucky I like ketchup because they assumed I did and put ketchup in one of thr compartments... lastly they didn't give us napkins or utensils so I had to swipe some inside of the window from that montys place whose server ignored me. Spring break wooo. Parking was rigged as well and it was a Monday. Good luck kojacks you'll need it. I doubt they even know what a yelp is... read more

Great service, the staff was so cool. I walked in and looked at the above menu and the three guys working smiled and me and could recognize I spoke Arabic so started to chat with me which I was really nice. They told me what was good and I was half tempted to order everything they had mentioned but I came in craving a burger and fries. They laughed and joked with me when I prefer what I did but they told me it would be out in no time and offered a complimentary drink for my friend and I. We both order a cheese burger with fries. Everything came out with in minutes. The burger was well done for us both, the meat was good and the fries where cooked very well nice and crispy but not to crispy, fresh cut. The service here and the food is really good I could see other guests ordering there true food Mediterranean and hey seemed to all be very pleased with their meals. Kojacks is the best place to have Gyros!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This resturaunt has received endless amounts of letters and recognition from tons of honarary customers. This place has lots of history. No joke. Johnny Cash has eaten here. So has Lorenzo Lamas and Britney Spears. Also, scenes from two movies have been filmed here. For those who are interested one movie was "Garden of the Nights" and the other movie feautured Shelly Long. Although, Adam Lambert (upcoming music artist) wasn't a customer I did get his autograph and a picture with him by the sea wall. Lastly my dad is awesome for owning this resturaunt. believe me, I dont give 5 stars lightly. This himilayan feat only goes towards places that my absolute favorites...and there are only 5-10 of those in the county. Kojacks has the best gyro...HANDS DOWN! And love me some gyros more than water. The owners are always there and always remember the locals and returning guests. They are also open late night, right next to the sandbar, so food is always good to go late night (they also sell cigarettes for you smokers past the time the markets close). next time you are in Mission beach...you MUST go in and treat yourself right read more

DISGUSTING FOOD and SERVICE !!! When you go to a Greek restaurant, one would expect authentic Greek food made by Greek people. Not at Kojack's ! Here you have these rude Iranian people trying to make food they have no idea about. The service is the worst part. One star is one too many. Rude and horrible service! I walked in here after the sunset, craving some of that lamb while the wife ordered chicken. They both came in huge plates containing Greek salads,tzatziki sauce, and fluffy pita bread with some rice on the side! As soon as I saw the cook shave the gyro with a knife rather then a peeler I knew he had years of experience! The food was just excellent and the grilled chicken was marinated just right to fit the Greek flavor. This place will deffinatly have me driving to the beach from east county more often! read more

I came here with a friend and felt a little mixed about our experience. This restaurant is slightly on the expensive side and the quality of the food doesn't really match the standard. Our prime server was little less friendly than usual or may be that was his personality. I tried grilled chicken and my friend tried the gyro. Both were pretty good but we couldn't quite get past the prices for such simple dishes. read more

The best gyro I ever had in my life. If your ordering chicken or anything off the grill your going to have to wait a little extra. Also same with the pizza since they make all their food fresh. The fries tasted amazing since they were homemade and they create a special seasoning. The gyro is cooked so it's nice and well done.
