I am writing to share a recent experience at the Bowie store, as well as to recognize a manager who handled the situation appropriately -- hence why it's two stars. I am a newly returning Kohl's customer--it's been years. Within my first week of shopping at the Bowie store, I encountered two separate service concerns -- so here's my complaint and commendation at the same time: First, I attempted to return an item that the system initially indicated was "not returnable," though no clear reason was provided. I was asked for additional information, which I provided. When the associate was unable to resolve the issue, the interaction became noticeably impatient and dismissive. There were visible signs of frustration, including non-verbal cues that conveyed irritation rather than a willingness to assist. At one point, the interaction shifted in a way that felt personally directed rather than solution-focused. The associate was very frustrated (unbelievable to me), eye-rolling, expressions of exasperation, and standing with her hands on her hips. The tone and body language suggested that the internal system discrepancy was somehow my responsibility. That was inappropriate. If internal numbers do not match or a technical discrepancy exists, that is an operational matter to resolve--not a customer failure. Redirecting frustration toward the customer reflects a lapse in composure and the lack of regulating yourself. Fortunately, the manager on duty, Deidra, intervened, hallelujah! She was calm, respectful, and solution-oriented. She did not display frustration, and she handled the matter with professionalism. Ultimately, the issue was resolved. I would like to formally acknowledge her leadership and demeanor. She demonstrated the level of service customers expect. Second, I recently received an online order that arrived visibly damaged. Items were missing from the package. Thankfully, I photographed the condition upon arrival. I followed the Deidre's instructions to resolve the matter, and that issue was also addressed by the very helpful, respectful and professional service representative. However, experiencing two service disruptions in my first week as a returning customer raises concern. As someone who leads an organization and manages diverse personalities daily, I understand that challenges arise in any business. What distinguishes a company is how its "people" respond under pressure. Customers should not feel the emotional burden of internal system or procedural challenges. Courtesy, patience, respect and professionalism should be first--even when resolution requires additional effort. The staff is rude here. There was an older man at the amazon return area and I asked for help and he was very rude, saying he didn't know what the code was that I needed for the self-pickup. Asked another staff member for help and she directed me the right way. How hard is it to be nice? Don't work in retail if you're a jerk. read more

Absolute terribly customer service, the slow and inefficient service here is some of the worst I have seen. When there is a line the check out staff look like they are strolling through the park without a care in the world in regards to expeditiously assisting customers. The staff aren't friendly or helpful and their disdain for their jobs is apparent on their faces. If you ever want to train your staff on how not to provide customer service this would be a great place to come. Dont come to this location it is awful read more

I love Khols! --HOWEVER HERE, the cashier Michelle in the jewelry dept made me question the motive behind my own objective: to check-out. As I attempted to engage in cordial "check-out conversation", her disgust for my existence was apparent. She approached me asking if I was ready to check-out and when I responded yes, looked at me like I was an inconvenience. She then handles my question on the return policy with a mumble and a shoulder-shrug. The zero eye-contact could of been excused with timidness, but the eyebrows speak volumes granted, that was all she gave me. I love Khols, but I walked out of this store disappointed as to why Khols would be okay with hiring someone who [forget--does not enjoy their job] is confident in pushing their clientele head-first and 40 going north out the door. Horrible customer service! I asked the lady near the shoe department if they had the shoe I wanted in a size 7 and she just looked at me and said with a terrible attitude "all the shoes we have are already on the floor" I am thinking to myself that can't be possible. I didn't say anything because why would I waist my breath on a horrible old lady with a bad attitude. I still cannot figure out why people go into retail if they are going to have poor attitudes about it. This is exactly why people are turning to online shopping because people like her make you want to curse the time you spent trying to support local stores. I love Kohl's havent ever found a "bad" one but the thing that makes this one worthy of a review is like Michele L put, the staff is AMAZING! One of the sales associates helped me search the racks for the dress I saw online that was perfect for an upcoming event and was just as excited as I was when it was found. The layout is a little odd compared to other Kohl's stores but nothing unmanageable. read more

I only like this Kohl's because the staff here is amazing. Everyone is friendly and actually want to help you if your looking for something, or if you look like you have questions. 4 stars because, they really need extra help in the customer service desk upstairs, (and on a Saturday 4/2/11) because making a return, I should not have to wait 30 minutes, and its only 3 people in front of me. read more

Sale prices misleading. Red sign stating 60% off and the video sign says 19.99 cool I will try one of these shirts. At checkout I get charged $55. Tell cashier about signs she asks if I still want the shirt? At that price no thanks. No attempt to find out if that was the case of a wrong price posting. This is why I don't shop here. read more

I am a die hard Kohls fan, the fact they can keep the store clean and reasonably stocked led me to give them 2 stars instead of 1. Online pickup is on the 2nd floor, literally as far from the front doors as you can get. The woman working the pickup desk had to page 5 times to get an employee to respond, I wouldn't recommend this location for online pickup in the future. Despite a decent crowd before closing only 2 people were working the cash registers while most employees aimlessly wandered the store. When my coupon on the phone wouldn't zoom in the clerk had me go stand closer to the door for better cell service and demanded I make it zoom or she wouldn't give me the discount. This whole time people were waiting in line to check out and I felt bad, but I didn't want to forfeit the 20% off. Every Kohls I have ever been to just scans a coupon at the front register if there is any issue. read more

I want to give a shout out to one of the employees who helped me tonight!!!! I ordered a winter coat during the black Friday weekend but it was a size too big. I brought it to the store to exchange but it is only carried online. Briana called Kohls Corporate to process my exchange and get me the smaller size shipped free to my home in the next few days. She was so friendly, professional, and made the exchange as painless as possible. I never really write reviews like this for stores but I was so impressed with her customer service especially at the end of a long day. Thank you Briana!!!! read more

Stay away.....this Bowie Kohl's sucks. The customer service is crazy, they let people return any and everything with no questions asked. How stupid, can't make $$$$$ that way. Had a woman in front of me trying to return an item, clearly marked (TARGET), Don't complain about the line being long and slow in customer service, people buy 5-10 bags of stuff then return them all. You customers keep the lines long, and the management makes a schedule that keeps the lines long. read more

Kohl's ran numerous online ads over Veterans Day weekend advertising their 30% special discount for all Veterans so I took an 11 year old young man to take advantage of their great promotion. The young man had recently lost his dad in a terrible accident and I thought this was a great opportunity to update his Winter wardrobe. After purchasing $276.00, I realized that not one DIME of my purchase qualified for the discount. Kohl's just played Veterans for whoever fell for the scam. I posted on Facebook yesterday and numerous Veterans responded they too had been screwed out of hundreds. I called Kohl's to complain today but finally hung up when the woman just kept talking over me saying how they received countless claims of what a great program it was and what a wonderful company Kohl's was to offer it. What a joke. Will never step foot in another Kohl's and am going to keep passing the word as to the disgusting way they treat Veterans. read more

Tonight I was in your Bowie location, after visiting your Glen Burnie location and not finding what I needed. I found three pairs of pants all on the clearance rack, all marked down. At check out, D'antre rang us up. We noticed one pair of pants rang incorrectly, according to the marked-down sticker price. He told us that it was a mistake and it was incorrectly tagged. I explained to him that they all came off the same clearance rack and still wanted to get them for the ticketed price. He could not do that so I insisted he get his manager. He could not find the on duty manager, asked multiple associates, noone knew of her location and made a comment stating she is never around and never know where she is. He paged her. She paged him to call her. She proceeded to talk to us through him. Insisted the item was tagged wrong, and the scanned item was the correct price. He asked if I wanted to talk to her. I said I wanted her to come handle a customer issue in person. She told him it would be 10 minutes enforce she could come to the register and I could wait if I'd like. This is the most insulting experience I have ever had as a customer and the 4th time I have received an "I don't give a shit" attitude from the Bowie team. And this is after I apply for a Kohl's card tonight and get approved. If I didn't need the other two pairs of pants, I would have not made a purchase at all. Leah, playing the "assistant manager" role might want to rethink her position. Immediately after leaving the store, I called to find out when Jim would be in next...I did not ask for his schedule, just when would he be in next so I could speak with him. After waiting for a couple minutes, Leah (now available to 'handle a customer') picked up the phone...asked what I needed and I told her, "I would like to know when your GM, Jim, will be in next.". She asked what I needed and I stated I needed to speak with him. She continued to ask questions, I repeated I wanted to speak with Jim. She told me that "We are not allowed to give out schedules..." I wasn't asking for his schedule, she could have said HE WILL BE IN ON SATURDAY MORNING, or whatever. Completely unprofessional. Completely unacceptable. I WILL not return and the Kolh's card will be shredded. I hope this reaches the appropriate personnel and is not discarded by Leah. read more

I thought the kohls store pick up in laurel is bad but here is worst. They have a long line and only two people actually work. The other two just stand around looking at the computer. What the heck. If you are already at a computer then open the register and help the customer. This got to be the slowest pick up store order ever! Sooo I just found out once you check out at the counter. You get to wait for it to be taken up the stair so you get to wait again! Joyyyyy. So apparently you need to wait your turn to get a freaking bag. I ask for a bag so I can bag it myself but freaking woman give me a lecture about waiting for my turn. Gosh if I knew it take 1 hr for pick up of one item. I might as well buy it in the store. Kohl's advertises "hassle-free returns" but we were hassled at the Bowie store. We tried to return a pair of shoes that didn't fit. The representative at the customer service counter looked at them and said we couldn't, because they had been worn. There are some problems with this position. First, we didn't wear them, except to try them on at the store and later at home (where we had second thoughts about the fit). Perhaps they did appear to be a bit worn, but that was likely because someone else had worn and returned them, and we bought "used" merchandise. The second problem is the refusal to accept the return violated Kohl's own "hassle-free returns" policy. You can see it on the web site. We knew about that policy and told the representative that, but she said the policy was going to change in a few months to exclude shoes. Well, that's interesting. We were apparently in violation of policy yet to be enacted. I like Kohl's as a company, just not this store. read more

Yes, I give 5 star for this store in Bowie, Im not an employee here, or being paid, I just like this store, because for so many reasons, first is the item they may not have the branded name for some stuff like bags etc. but they have nice item, because im not really looking for a brand name but as long as its nice and its very stylish to wear, second the price, when they put on sale its really sale and aside from your kohls discount, and the third its the employee, especially in the costumer service, I return some item like 3 to 4 times and the employee are so helpful, w/ no questions ask thats what I want, even I lost my receipt they can check on my kohls card they accept it. unlike in TJ MAXX they are so unreasonable, one time my daughter returned clothes she have a receipt, and the tag attached, they said they dont sell that item, its so annyoing because my daughter is only 17 at that time and shy to argue so Im the one who take care, and I got into big argument, from then never get back to their store, I just go to kohls. read more
