Kohl's
Jando S.

I had never shopped in a Kohl's prior to visiting this one in Baton Rouge. I was under the impression this was some sort of a Crate & Barrel meets Sears type of a store, perhaps with little tinges of K-Mart and a little Target thrown in between. There are lots of home furnishing accessories here, with plenty of cute choices for women and lots of casual / conservative choices for men. It seems big and a little empty. Given our recent economic turmoil, the deals are never ending here with much of their inventory selling for as high as 70% off. Don't expect to find any decent name brand stuff here or any electronics either. The toy section is very limited for children and they tend to have their "As Seen On TV" products collecting dust on the clearance rack. A slight positive is their men's fitting rooms. There are comfy chairs, big mirrors, and no sales associates to hassle incoming patrons. Each of the rooms are unmonitored, spacious, and undoubtably clean. You'd think one could easily shoplift there, but the cameras say otherwise. They cannot take returns at the registers, remember to head out to the Customer Service area in the back. The sales folk are friendly and tend to greet customers coming in and out. Be sure to score Kohl's bucks with every purchase and apply them for future visits - they also aren't taxed and can be reused.

Couldn't decide, but with each under $35 I had to get both!

You better love what you take a chance on buying because there's no going back. Once you buy…read moresomething you can only exchange it for store credit. Even if you never wore it and just changed your mind the second you received it, there's no actual refunds here. That's just wrong that they will keep your money no matter what. Your only options is to try again later with a gift card they will give you. Minus any shipping costs so you can pay that again... what a rip off

I wanted to purchased something original and authentic to Austin or TX for my fifteen yr. old son. (which most parents might agree, is a hard shop in the first place without a list from them in their writing) The clerk was most helpful, but at the same time deceiving. They must work on commission. He showed me several pieces in the the store and I settled on two T-shirts. What he failed to tell me was that the sale was final. I asked if they were returnable or exchangeable and he said yes, no problem. So I purchased the items. He didn't mention the caveat. You see 1) They have a NO REFUND policy. Only exchanges. 2) You need exchange in person or 3) you have to pay to ship the merchandise back to them. PLUS 4) YOU pay for the shipping of the new items you choose UNLESS you purchase at lease $200.00 or more with them. In my cade, my purchase was $81. and some change. So it is going to cost me shipping TO them, my exchange plus shipping TO me of the new items. This is outlandish! That is literally holing my money hostage. I will never buy from this store again! I will also let anyone and everyone know about this policy they have of keeping your money once they have it. This store is only out for your money, not out to grow clients.

I've been looking for a roof rack loader for my Pescador Perception so, since Thule and Yakima accessories are pretty much interchangeable, I Google search Thule and Yakima dealers in the area. Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. I'm convinced that if they don't have it, you don't really need it.
