Just not the nicest store, customer service wise. Of course, the store carries some very nice stuff.

I've been looking for a roof rack loader for my Pescador Perception so, since Thule and Yakima accessories are pretty much interchangeable, I Google search Thule and Yakima dealers in the area. Two popped up and The Backpacker was one of them. It's a dreary rainy day and lunch time. I managed to find the shop in spite of the lunch traffic on Jefferson Hwy. I parked and walked inside. I was immediately received with a friendly greeting by several of the staff with offers to help me. I told them I was "just looking around" and they left me to myself with me knowing if I needed any help they'd be there. I like that. I wandered around for about 30 minutes and I managed to find a few things. Some I needed and some I didn't know I needed. So, I carried my bounty to the register and was checking out. I asked the young man if they had a THule or Yakima kayak loader. He replied, " We don't have any T-hule loaders or Yakima loaders in stock." I always find it amusing when the folks in the outfitting shops do that. I'm not "Sveedish" so I'll continue to say "THule" LOL. In all seriousness, the shop is very comfortable and friendly. The staff are extremely helpful and not overbearing/pushy. I travel to BR often on business and I'll continue to stop by "The Backpacker" to find things I didn't know I needed. I'm convinced that if they don't have it, you don't really need it. Kudos to The Backpacker and the wonderful staff. - Rain Man "And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul." - John Muir

Shoe Carnival is supposed to be a fun place to shop for shoes. I've always enjoyed going to their…read morelocations in the past. My first visit to this location proves that there's always an exception. The employees seem very disinterested in their work. The man checking me out at the register was too busy talking about a sketchy person who was in the store earlier that day with another employee to actually make sure I got what I needed. The store itself was in general disarray (which is to be expected at a shoe store) but there were barely any customers when I was there. I couldn't find what I wanted in my size, so I ended up buying a different size. One brazen employee asked me rather unprofessionally if I wanted to buy socks or a belt from a large plastic tub she was carrying around. Bizarre. If you asked me, I wouldn't recommend this particular location of Shoe Carnival.

After I realized that they opened at 11, I decided to stay..maybe I can find some shoes for work. When I pulled in, there was already a father and son waiting outside the door and a few other cars parked. Okay. They opened the doors and people started getting out and approaching the door. Cool. I'm walking in...nobody says, "Hey, hello, what's up" or anything. I've worked in retail before and we were always taught to greet EVERY customer coming through the door. Strike 1. I'm browsing the aisles, looking at shoes...however not many seem to be on display. Not the Vans or Converse. (These are located on the first aisle after entrance.) Is it because these are popular shoes right now, and you don't want people to steal?? Strike 2. Then, I quickly notice how messy and dirty the store is. Wayment, you JUST opened. Why is the trash from yesterday still here? Boxes and shoes everywhere. Did no one clean before closing last night? The mess alone ran me straight up outta there. Needless to say, I doubt I'll be visiting again!
