Dr. Pellegrini is one of the few doctors who will sit with you and discuss why he is ordering particular tests, explain what the results are, and then discusses with you courses of treatment, providing you with information to help you make your own informed decision regarding your treatment. At first I thought that Dr. Pellegrini was one of those physicians who orders a million tests and referrals just to assist his "friend" physicians, but he is really trying to do everything possible to find out what is wrong with his patients and refer them to the appropriate specialist. His staff is friendly and they have gotten better as time has gone on, the patient flow in the office is much better.

A mixed bag. The good: Dr. Toprover is knowledgeable and professional. He has a good "bedside"…read moremanner and really listens to you. He is old school in the right ways--he noticed a major health problem I had instantly, whereas the urgent clinic I'd gone to the day before did not. The not so good: The office is always incredibly crowded. You will wait long past your appointment time, guaranteed. The receptionist, while knowledgeable, is extremely brusque, to put it politely. I've had specialists call there and almost hang up on her. The old school really holds: The doctor doesn't do fax or email. Need a referral or refill? He will want you there in person, I guess so he can charge your insurance, not taking into consideration that you may need to take another day off work. You will see lots of people complaining about the dirty office in the Google reviews. They are correct. I stay with him because he is near to me.

He remembers his patients' medical history without even having to look at their records. As a child, I could remember him actually coming to my house when I was ill, not because he had to, but because he truly does care. The last time I went for a visit, I was told to wait in my car until it was my turn for my scheduled appointment. I was there for 2 hours and the office staff was rude whenever I'd call for an update. Dr. Faugno apologized when he saw me. Just a few weeks ago, I called to schedule my annual physical. I was told I could not see the doctor until November (I called in May). I even mentioned that I had some health concerns, but the person who took my call didn't care. I even said I'd have to find another primary care doctor and she just says, "OK," and hung up. It's very hard to find a primary care provider these days. Even though he's a good doctor, his office staff lacks the decency to make his practice sufficient. If you actually can get an appointment, I'd still recommend looking elsewhere as you'll likely be disappointed at some point. I do respect the medical profession, but I do expect more care as a patient. Our lives are their hands.

Since he's moved to the city, he has a more competent staff including a Physician's Assistant (PA) who can see you instead of Olivieri if it's nothing urgent. The wait time is still a bit long to see either, but nothing like it used to be in his Brooklyn office. He no longer has a phlebotomist in his office. Dr. Olivieri is less harried now that he has his Manhattan office(s) and is, therefore, more accessible.

Needless to say I walked out after being insulted and reprimanded and found another doctor and I was diagnosed with bronchitis. Dr Buono is a wonderful doctor but it's impossible to get past his rude male receptionist. He checked the prescriptions I had been given and ascertained that the dosage was incorrect, so he called CVS and changed my prescription immediately. I appreciate having an old-school doctor who spends time with his patients and makes sure their medical issues are managed correctly. Not every person who calls himself/herself a doctor will do that. In fact, most spend the requisite 15 minutes with each patient and never follow up. I was impressed by Dr. Ayyad's commitment and professionalism and plan to stay with him as his patient as long as he will keep me.
