Stopped in to pick up drinks for a friend & I before I went to their house. The place itself is super cute, if not a bit small & intimate. They have a huge menu above the counter so I ordered off of it. The menu has one price for a chai latte, I knew I was going to pay extra for the oat milk I wanted but I thought there was only one size cup for the drink I ordered. Noticed after I paid that I was charged $.25 more.........could have asked me if I wanted a different size or have had it on the menu. Honestly, $.25 isn't a lot but if I came here every day for the week that would be about $2 you charged me without my consent. Felt, & still do two weeks later, weird about it. Not impressed at all. I stopped by around lunch for a pick-me-up. I ordered a chai latte and an almond croissant. Half of my cup was full of foam. The other half was overly sweet commercial chai mix. I hated it and wished I got a plain coffee. Their pastries are from Balthazar and the lonely almond croissant from their pastry selection was tasty, just wasn't a great combo of sweet drink x sweet pastry. The barista was very nice, but kept disappearing behind the curtains that lead in the back. So it was an empty sad coffee shop. read more

Forgot to snap pics but we arrived on a very rainy Saturday morning and had the place all to ourselves. Chatted it up with the barista who was sweet and went over their menu. They have the standard syrups but had a display of syrups they were sampling and allowing customers to try. I ordered a pecan latte with almond milk, using one of the sample syrups. It's was super nutty and so delicious. More so than my husband's vanilla latte which was yummy. It's a cozy coffee shop that seats about 10 people total and comfortable enough to hang out, finish a drink, and decide what's next on the list of to do's. read more

Cute little coffee shop in Chinatown. The inside is really nice, but was completely empty when I stopped by on a Tuesday morning. That doesn't really inspire confidence. But it was close by so I gave it a try. I always order a matcha latte with either soy or oat milk when I'm out. This time was no different. Unfortunately, the matcha was just not very good. Maybe it was too watered down? But just not much flavor or really caffeine for that matter. I usually feel the caffeine pretty quickly, but never really got that with this one. I also asked for soy milk but it didn't taste like it had soy milk. I'm not sure what kind of milk was used but I don't think it was what I asked for because when I looked later it said they only had almond or oat for alternative milks. The employee never said anything. Also the matcha was like $7, so way overpriced for what it was, especially when it wasn't very good. Going to look for another coffee/tea place today. read more

Great coffee. There is not much to say a about Kodawari other than it offers great coffee. The establishment itself is on the small side so do not expect to find seating space. But our barista was quick to get our order, and the coffee was full of flavor. So if you are in the area and want a good cup of coffee Kodawari is a great alternative. My friend and I stopped by to get cold brew. This is a small coffee shop that's fit for the grab and go. It's not spacious enough to be one of those sit down and do work kind of places. However, they make up for that with great taste. The old brew wasn't generic or bland. It had a unique flavor profile that I appreciated with hints of different tastes, almost woody. It was smooth and low acidity, medium body and great for a hot, sunny day. The barista that served us was great as well. Keen on service details and offered us iced water as we left. Very cute little cafe with exactly three two seater round tables. Extremely minimalist design with a limited menu of coffee drinks and pastries. I had the almond croissant which was quite good. I would not recommend this place as an alternative to working from home because of its small size. There was one girl here attempting this and she was talking very loudly on conference calls for an hour+ and really killed the mood of the entire place. I'd suggest for the cafe to have a no laptop policy because it'd be best marketed as a stop and get a casual cup of coffee and snack, have a chat, and go. read more

I forgot to buy my wife coffee. Caffeine deprivation, pregnancy, and yours truly are the three things that make my wife the angriest, and they assembled like Voltron in this instance to create a perfect storm of rage. Luckily, when this happened I was both (1) out of the house and (2) next to Kodawari. The nice staff of this adorable little shop didn't seem to understand my panic, but they happily ground some Kobi Trading Co. beans (fresh roasted by Unity*) and handed them to me along with a tasty mini-pastry to calm my nerves ($2-$4 depending on the selection), unknowingly saving my life. I do think $16 is a lot to pay for a pound of coffee, let alone 12 oz (the only size they offer I guess), but when I raced home and French pressed the shit out of it for the queen of my life, she nodded and said, "It's good." This is a very small, cute place by the Grand Street D train. It's literally a block away. I got an iced latte for 4.90! I really appreciated that it came with a ball of ice that kept the drink cold but not saturated by an over abundance of ice! The iced latte comes with whole milk! So if you're not a fan, ask for no milk and they have other milk including oat milk on the counter top! I got my drink to go, but there are three small tables with chairs and a huge window looking out the store. If I lived around here, I would love to come have coffee and read a book or do work. read more

Cute little coffee spot. Inside was clean, still enforcing use of masks (i respect it just didn't have a mask so thanks to the barista for giving me an extra she had !). I like how they believe and practice sustainability and eco friendliness. I ordered a cappuccino and a regular drip coffee. It was a slow process in getting the coffees because they take a few minutes each to make but it was worth it. They were delicious and fresh. I would totally go back, I loved that they were small and local. I really enjoyed this place! I caught up on life with a good friend earlier and this was just the cozy place to do it on a gloomy day like today. When we arrived, there was a guy on his laptop. I felt like we were being rude just chatting, but hey, it's a coffee shop, not the library, right? We stayed for two hours chatting (even after we finished our drinks). We weren't forced to leave or anything- they have three 2-seat tables and it was a dull, windy Monday, so it wasn't crowded. The chai latte was tasty- thumbs up!! The interior is simple and aesthetically pleasing. It was so funny when the shop owners left the shop a few times for a while, just leaving us two in the shop. A few times, people stopped in, I would say they just stepped out- the guy would walk back in upon seeing a customer (I wonder where they went...). My favorite coffee place in this area to date! I wish more places offered 8 oz servings for those of us who are more sensitive to caffeine -- yes, we exist! -- it's the perfect size so that I can start and finish the drink while it's still a perfect temperature and not diluted yet. Their 8 oz drinks have solid espresso flavors that I love love love. Expect calm vibes in the morning and low-volume, jazzy Japanese music. There haven't been any pastries the last few times I stopped by around 10am, so that's either a weekend thing or a non-COVID-times thing or a ... just me missing the pastries thing. Begrudgingly, I admit that's probably better for my sugar intake, but I do look forward to their return... nothing like a good croissant to accompany a perfect latte. This has been my go-to coffee shop in the neighborhood for a couple years and have always loved their (strong) cold brew with the single large ice ball, but things have changed the past month or so. I stopped by here during my lunch break in desperate need of a pick me up. I chatted with the barista working there and he was so kind and patient while I figured out what I wanted to drink. He even let me sample the cold brew. I settled on a chai since he said it'll satisfy my sweet tooth. It tastes better than my go to chai latte from Starbucks. Also I absolutely love the little handmade ice-burg they drop into your drink. Be advised the the seating is limited and the space is small but it's very bright and inviting. I was in New York for several events and always make it a point to support small businesses. I read some reviews about this spot and decided to give it a try. Great minimalist decor, decent coffee but awful, disrespectful customer service. I ordered a cortado and the guy behind the counter mentioned a sale on their pastries. Naturally, I also ordered a Kouign Amann which is one of my favorite pastries and I order it anytime I see it on the menu in a cafe. To my utter disappointment and surprise, the guy taking my order, without hesitating says, "Nice pronunciation." I glared at him, shocked, and to be honest disgusted at his backhanded compliment of my "pronunciation" as if I was not expected to know how to order from the menu. It is insulting to me that (1) you assumed I would not have the knowledge to read the menu and (2) that I don't read/speak French. I typically do not like to leave negative reviews but was compelled to bring this situation to light. If I make the effort to support a business, I expect to be treated with common decency and respect. I will not be returning to this place ever again. read more

Kodawari is a trendy, aesthetically-pleasing coffee shop and is a great place to get some work done. It's kinda small so it might be hard to snag a table on a busy day, but I went on a Saturday afternoon and was the only one sitting so it was fine. They have big windows in the front which really illuminate the space. It had a very peaceful atmosphere and the music was nice and calm and conducive to studying. The barista was very friendly and was happy to answer my questions. (I feel like I annoy every barista with my inquiries about how sweet the chai latte is--I just hate an overly sweet chai!) I went with a simple iced coffee. The pastries looked really good too but I passed them up--they were a bit on the expensive side and I was feeling frugal, though judging by looks they're probably worth the price. The iced coffee tasted great--it was smooth and not too acidic, just the way I like it. They use big ice orbs instead of normal ice cubes--according to other yelpers this is so that it melts slower and doesn't water down your drink--and I'd say it worked pretty well! Found this cute little cafe on yelp and decided to go. It's a small cafe with a minimal vibe. They serve they coffee with one big sphere cube instead of using a bunch of ice cubes, I thought it was pretty cool. However, they charge you an extra 50¢ for an iced drink. They don't tell you that they're going to charge extra, but I think they should put it on their menu so customer would know. read more

Grabbed cold brew here today. Love their roast, which is not too bitter or sour. It's such a great idea to put whisky ice ball in cold brew. the ice melts slow enough not to water down the coffee while also providing enough cooling effect. I don't know if they are the ones coming up with the idea but it's genius. I can finally finish a cup of cold brew without rushing it! Def coming back! read more

I really wanted to like this coffee shop, but unfortunately the drinks just aren't that great. I got a matcha latte and I felt like I overpaid for a cup of milk. They also don't have wifi or a restroom- but you can go to Little Wayla to use their restroom. It is a very quaint and quiet cafe and seems to be a grab and go coffee shop so if you're alright with hot spotting from your phone, then it's not bad spot to get some work done. The cold brew was my order and boy did I choose a winner! The golf ball sized ice cube was a nice touch. THe coffee was so smooth and slightly chocolately not a hint of bitterness. 4 stars was because my wife's coffee was stale and she ended up ditching it. It would've been better if the person could have mixed and broken apart the matcha more. Like literally there were huge clumps of matcha.
