Veggie lo mein bowl and chicken lo mein bowl and house made chili sauce
    Allison N.

My husband introduced me to Kobo on our vacation to Washington over Christmas...amazing! Staff are so friendly and the food is wonderful - not overly oily etc. Try their house made chili sauce (which you can buy to take home!) Prices have gone up considerably due to inflation, but the noodle bowls are still around $11-$13 and very filling. Try this place out!

Bento box was really great. I like how crispy the tempura crust is and the lady was nice.

Amazing teriyaki! Tied with the best in town with Fuji Teriyaki…read more The teriyaki sauce is sweet so I def recommend adding at least a level 1 spice to give it more oomph. The fried rice is basically white rice with veggies - not very flavorful or wok hei seasoned. It'd be amazing if yall fried it more, added more seasoning esp white pepper. Wouldn't recommend upgrading from steamed rice. The spicy chicken teriyaki is more of a dry teriyaki but it is delicious. Not gochujang based, more sambal and very yummy. I wish they would stir fry with veggies like Fuji does but still delicious and definitely recommend. As soon as you walk in the door you know it'll be rly good. Any place that has the owners kids playing or workin there will always be good. They were quick even though they were swamped at 3PM. They had a ton of door dash orders while i was there as well. As far as interior it's really cute and welcoming. They got part of my order wrong (I wanted steamed rice with the spicy chicken and got fried rice but since it still clumped together i didn't mind.) Def go here! My teriyaki rankings: Zabdi = Fuji, Kobo (they have a new owner so this isn't accurate to date. I've heard it's bad now), GG's, Royal's, Kobe, Happy Teriyaki (absolutely awful fried rice. Teriyaki is yummy but the rice was so bad it's made me jaded). Thanks for attending my TED talk

I also noticed their sign that says "open in Sunday's" to which I giggled because I just mentioned to my husband that I bet they are closed on Sunday's, so kudos to them for knowing their customers. I ordered the chicken teriyaki and I need to mention that I LOVE when they add the side salad with the white salad dressing, throw that dressing on the rice with pepper and teriyaki sauce and it's FIRE. If they are smart they will be selling that by the bottle soon like seen some other places start doing once they caught on. The teriyaki sauce is the thick sweet kind which I love because the more runny kind is too savory and tangy for my liking. I only went inside for a second but the place looked really cool! The also have Boba Tea and Sushi which I'll have to try soon, but there's a lot of seating and parking around the building so there's plenty of space. I recommend someone take a photo of their updated menu so the prices are current. (I forgot). I paid about $30 for two chicken teriyakis. I'll be picking up more frequently from here since it's hard sometimes to find a good teriyaki spot!

The food was hot and fresh, and of course tasty! The only awkward thing is that the bathroom is outside, there's only 1 stall, and it's a little warn down. I've been twice now: once on a date with my husband and another time for a family outing, and both experiences have been fantastic. The prices are fair. I wouldn't call it cheap, but it's definitely not outrageously expensive either, especially for the quality. We usually spend around $100 for two orders of takoyaki and three sushi rolls. I came for the sushi, but apparently I'm staying for the takoyaki and the fantastic service. Seriously, the takoyaki here might be the best I've ever had. They're served at just the right temperature, crispy on the outside, savory, and actually have a good amount of octopus in each ball. My husband agrees, which is why we always end up ordering TWO orders. We can't help ourselves. The sushi itself is delicious and really well balanced. I don't feel like the rolls are overloaded with rice, and every roll we've tried has had a good balance between the fish, sauces, and other ingredients. Nothing feels like it's drowning out everything else. Both times we've visited, the service has also been wonderful. The servers are attentive and friendly, and good service is one of the reasons I enjoy coming back. The restaurant itself is on the smaller side, especially around the entrance where you're practically passing right by the chefs. But I actually like the lowkey, humble atmosphere. During the day, it's fairly dim inside with just a sliver of sunlight peeking through, and the neutral tones make it feel cozy without trying too hard to be fancy. My only gripe has nothing to do with the restaurant itself: PARKING. Downtown Olympia parking is such a pain in the neck. You might find yourself circling a few blocks looking for street parking, but Asahi is one of those places where I'll deal with it because the food and service are worth the trip. I've been to plenty of sushi places in California, so after moving to Washington a few months ago, I've been hoping to find a sushi spot here that could compare and that I would actually want to return to. Asahi is definitely that place. It's officially my go-to sushi spot in the area whenever I can afford to treat myself, because if I'm coming here, I'm budgeting enough to try and tip the servers well too. I'll happily keep coming back for my two orders of takoyaki and sushi fix. :)
