But the sentimentality of the money clip from my mother was the ultimate importance. Priscilla emailed back and said they had found the money clip and all the cash was intact. They mailed it down to me priority mail with tracking, and I can't say how appreciative I was with receiving it with over $600 in it, to pay for a trailer on the way home. I was genuinely stupefied about the honesty of the employees. I showed my gratitude to them!!! Resort review: I drove up there to drop off another hiker that was supposed to start the journey but contracted COVID just before star that was joining my wife for the rest of the John Muir trail, and spend the night with my wife in a room with a bed, toilet., and shower, before she got back on the trail. The place is what I like; a civilized retreat that is far from civilization and has all the basic amenities that one would need to enjoy some peaceful rest, relaxation, day hikes, sitting around the fire, and fishing. The Room are very basic, and trust me, it's a gem to the hikers, and a basic room to those not trough-hiking. I say; who cares, its warm, has indoor plumbing with shower, heating, electric lights and outlets to charge your electronic junk, a little convenience kitchen, chairs, tables and night-stands. This is the best of a soul-enriching retreat that you don't have to hike miles to get to, and drive to {make sure you have some clearance underneath the vehicle)- soccer mom van did it fine, sports car would not be choice. I would bring my truck, but would also consider my Ford Mach-E EV, asking prior about charging it back up at the resort. The atmosphere was electrified with all the John Muir trail hikers that were coming in to pick up their re-supply of backpacking food and other supplies that they had mailed up to Vermillion Valley Resort (VVR) previously - what a great service! The hikers were so happy to be able to resupply on a little bit of civilization, that was still way away from "the rat race", and have a brief respite from the tent, camp stove, filtering water, and making sure of good foot and body hygiene. For those that did not reserve a room, there was still laundry machines available, showers, backpacking re-supplies, and of course very tasty n filling café food.The kitchen serves great home-cooked comfort food that really appeals to the hiking crowd, and to myself as I just love it. Many of the hikers knew each other from the trail and I felt excitement that comes from the hikers who saw and made friends together on-trail: they had lots of catching up to do, and a bit more time to do so-precious. The free camping area for tents was super-cool! As for my experience, I relished that I could bring a wonderful feast of King Crab, steak, Caesar salad, fresh asparagus (from the Fresno Costco on my way up) my wife and her hiking friends without a big detour for them. It was so perfect, and the staff was perfect at accommodating needs, like the magician Priscilla. She always had great answers, always available, and just seemed like "an old soul" in her demeanor, attitude and ability to poly-task. Nuf Sed, Greg

I've been camping for more than 25 years, whether it be dispersed with limited facilities or sites…read morethat have full on electrical outlets and close to a body of water (like Camp Edison). Yet majority of the time, I have been lucky to get a reservation here. To make a reservation, you will need to go on Camplife.com and select Camp Edison as your location. Reservations open up 6 months prior to your desired camping dates. So if you want to camp around June, you will need to get on the reservation site around December and compete with others in the reservation process. Reserving for May-July are the worst; similar to reserving at Yosemite National Park. It can be frustrating as you will be assigned a random number in the queue at 8am on the dot; so make sure you're logged in at least 15 minutes prior just in case you encounter connection issues. You can be either #1 or #1000; it just depends on how many are on the site at that given time. You also have a time limit to make your reservation or risk to having it swooped by another camper if you fail to do so. I recommend making your reservation on a desktop and not on mobile as you might have issues with cell signal. As far as the experience goes, I just love camping here. Sites are adequately spaced but other "Loops" may be a bit spacier. Most sites are RV/Trailer accomodating. Electric meters for eac site, communal water stations, hot showers (shower card needed) and flushing toilets. They also have a Camp Store near the Check In Booth. There are also vendors that drive around that sell firewood. You can also rent boats at the Shaver Lake Marina, and if fully booked, you can try your luck at the nearby Sierra Marina. Walking distance to Shaver Lake and a few mins drive to the Shaver Lake town. I highly recommend this campgrund if you're lucky to snag a spot online. Also, you can pay for "Day Use" only - which basically is equivalent to a Day Pass. Good luck!

He has so much new things coming for this place. Highly recommend coming back to Lakeshore. One of our favorite parts was spending time at the saloon at night where we met so many wonderful people. Everyone was so welcoming and friendly specially Susan. My husband and I are restaurant owners, so we know when there's good food and good Service and let me tell you it was beyond amazing. The camp hosts take great pride in keeping the place clean, we saw someone cleaning the bathrooms multiple times a day. I'm telling you, you would never guess that these are non-flushing restrooms. They were immaculate. We stayed at spot #60, which is in the lower part of the loop and was a very short, easy walk, to the lake. The site was perfect, not too close to other sites so there was some privacy, and only one site away from the restrooms. Fair warning though, you do have to take some steps down from the parking spot to the actual site, so if you have a lot of stuff to carry, just be aware that you will need to travel down about 5-6 steps. The site itself has decent shade, the picnic table and fire pit are in great condition and there is a very nice, clean, open and perfectly flat spot to put your tent between two trees. If you forget something, "town" is just outside of the campground entrance, within a few minutes you have access to restaurants, and other stores. Somehow though, you feel off-grid, even though you are so close to town. We had full cell phone service, even though we chose to stay off our phones, if you needed to use them you totally could. Overall, I highly recommend this campground and we really enjoyed our stay

It was a bit cold at night lowest 42 I believe and highs were 64 degrees. During day it was nice and warm with the sun shining. Ensure to bring lots of warm clothes to bundle up in the evening and be kind to the campground. Ensure to pack anything that was packed in to keep the area clean. Oh and be aware, you can hear wolves and coyotes throughout your stay. Ensure to keep all food put in a tote safely and in the provided camp storage so the bears are not attracted to your campsite. Keep a close eye on the little ones at all times!

Without any reasonable cause, he approached our group at 12 noon and abruptly demanded that we turn off our music, which was neither loud nor disruptive. What made this worse was that other campsites were playing their music at much higher volumes, yet he chose to ignore them and single out our group. The situation escalated later that evening, around 8 PM, when our family was simply sharing stories and enjoying time around the campfire. The same host barged into our site and declared that we were "getting loud," warning us to quiet down and threatening to return "or else." Meanwhile, other campsites were openly showing movies and running loud sound systems without any intervention. This selective enforcement felt malicious, discriminatory, and completely unprofessional. No paying guest should ever feel targeted or treated unfairly, especially when others are allowed to do the very things we were reprimanded for. To make matters worse, the water service was never restored for the entire duration of our stay, an unacceptable inconvenience on top of everything else. Our group, along with our friends and family, will not be returning to Rancheria Campground. Beautiful scenery cannot make up for hostile treatment and inconsistent, disrespectful customer service.

The vault toilets were plentiful throughout the campground and were kept reasonably clean, which I always appreciate when camping. One of the highlights was the creek, which was perfect for both swimming and fishing, though the water was definitely freezing cold! I was also happy to find that the campground is dog-friendly, as my dog had an amazing time exploring the area and splashing around. Overall, it was a great camping experience, and I'd gladly return in the future.

Turns out, the "parking spot" was actually a tiny campsite. Oops. A normal person would say, "Hey folks, that's a campsite -- you'll need to move." Easy. Done. But not this dude. No, this Mountain Mall Cop skipped "polite" entirely and went straight to interrogation mode: "You have a day pass -- why are you camping?" I tell him, "We're just grilling, didn't realize it was a site since the sign says day use only." He decides I'm lying. Doubles down. Keeps pushing. Because nothing says "public service" like manufacturing conflict where there is none. Then -- THEN -- this cone commander looks at my husband with a "control your woman" face. It takes a real special kind of smart to look to someone's spouse for backup. Discount deputy is lucky I didn't go feral at that point. This wasn't rule enforcement. There was literally nobody else in sight. This was a small man on a power trip, desperate to play cop in a place where the only real crimes are overcooked hot dogs. Pro Tip: If you enjoy being falsely accused, condescended to, and treated like a criminal, this is your paradise. If not, avoid this place like it's serving gas station sushi. Whoever manages this orangutan in a uniform needs to either train him in basic human decency... or at least send him to the dog park to be properly socialized.

It was perfect because we could only stay overnight and this was the only place we could find that was flexible. Fairly close to Yosemite in case you wanted to visit and VERY close to Bass Lake! Randy, our host, communicated with me right as I booked the cabin and was always easy to get a hold of. When we arrived, he gave us a thorough tour of the cabin and instructions on how to use everything. Manzanita Cabin is absolutely thee most charming cabin I've ever stayed in!! We were a party of 12 and fit comfortable in this spacious place. The huge wood table fit us all comfortably for meals and we had a great time playing games/sitting around the wood burning fireplace in the living room as well. The kitchen was very spacious and had everything we needed in regards to pots, pans, plates, utensils, etc. The rooms were comfy and had furnaces in case we wanted a little extra warmth. There were three bathrooms all beautifully renovated! Downstairs there's even a small game room for kids and a huge garage with a washer and dryer if needed. Though a little chilly, we spent some time on the porches that wrapped around the whole house. This cozy cabin definitely stole our hearts and we cannot wait to return!!
